MELANCHOLIC END

Hope everyone is enjoying the Yuletide season. I have been at the ancestral home since the 21st with most of these post scheduled. It's been great being out of the four walls so to speak, and enjoy time in my little bubble of three family members and three friends. The year is certainly finding 2020 coming to an end an a melancholic mood for me...and very calm.  Certainly been very reflective and I found myself thinking a lot of past family and friends....and current ones...who have been luckily enough to come through the pandemic so far. I, the week leading up to coming come,  received news three more friends had caught covid...one in the hospital still now with kidney failure. Not to mention our own poor Ms. Moorecock has also caught the covid. Needless to say that trip has been cancelled...and she has been taken into self quarantine at Moorecock Heights.  Two more...a friend and a ex co-worker have also sadly succumbed. Seems to be getting close to home more so these days now since the virus had full on exploded. But the visit home has been very nice and good therapy. My mother has also thankfully received the vaccine at the rehab hospital she works at. That made me feel better.

My aunt gifted me this old decoration which had been my grandmother's. On the 24th I went to the cemetery to take a pine spray I made for my grandmother and grandfather and talked , and even took a bottle of their wine to drink with them. My grandfather's side is in the wine business.
Christmas Eve found us at my aunt's for dinner, and on Christmas day at my mother's....I made my first ever full turkey dinner...a stuffed turkey, scalloped potatoes, gravy, and glazed carrots and pears. Im happy to report it passed Julia Child's...aka, my aunt's approval. Whew.
My mother's gift to me....I swear by this great smelling and clean scent cologne...a age old gentleman's scent. But don't worry...I still love me my  Tom Ford and Hermes. I also got the bath products in a stocking with many odd and ends and money!
My aunt has gifted me this book and sock monkey. I couldn't resist posting them for our Sixpense!!!!!!!!!
Over the weekend I spent the night at the Capital Street Duos, two of my best friends,  where we had dinner and drinks and played several games of drunken bingo. They even decorated my own room in their home.
Their breathtaking first floor!!!! Wow!
My mother's big Ridgeback, Lilleth seemed to think she is a lap dog.
Poor Buster Bolfig had a bad weekend sad to stay, and is now on the mend from a back disk issue.  He is now on some pain meds and is luckily back to himself. Being mixed with dachshund, which are inclined to get back issues in older age, it's something we will have to monitor...and he will have to get shorter walks to his dismay.
So the visit has been a joy and a bit emotional. I always seem to get melancholic and introspective this time of the year away...but seems heightened during this time, with covid surrounding the tee pees. But still grateful for what I have.  Im following this memes advice for the New Year I believe. I plan on tiptoeing into the new year...

  1. Looks like a nice time away. I think this year it's especially easy to get melancholic, what with this climate. And im so worried to hear about MS Moorecock. I do hope she'll be alright. It's terrible this virus. We know many getting now. All your pictures are amazing and congrats of the dinner...no small feat cooking for a person like your aunt with her talents. Hugs to Buster as well.

  4. That first picture is precious. All the pictures tickled me. This was my first Christmas without my brother who passed of covid. This time next year may look even more different I suspect.

Great job on that dinner...I wouldn't even know where to start! The dogs look happy...hugs to Buster and Moorecock! I'm sorry to hear about that.

  5. It's been a shit year all round. As you know, I've just posted my annual "in memoriam" list, and that's shocking enough to behold, let alone the concern we have for our friends and families...

I will be very glad to see the back of this year, and yes! Tiptoeing into a new year is probably the best way. Happy New Year anyway, sweetie. Clink, clink. Jx

  8. Sounds like a lovely getaway, and your dinner looks, and sounds dee-lish.
That Capital Street Duo do know how to do up a guest suites; I'd never leave.
Hopefully Buster is on the med. we go through the same back issues for Ozzo. Their long bodies and wee legs aren't really made for jumping, especially as they get older.
    Cheers to a happy, Happier 202!t h

  10. Lovely pictures. That sock monkey is adorable and those pups!!!! Lilleth is big for a lap dog!!!! And Im sorry to read about MS Moorecock!!!!! Send our regards to her. I can't believe the news coming out of the US.

And the $600?!?!? What a slap in the face. Here and in other parts and in Canada are getting 2,000 a month! Is the US a third world country now??? Why is this so hard to get the money back out? Both parties over there suck. It would be very difficult for me to support any party if I still lived there.

    1. It's been a nice time home I admit. Ms Moorecock is hanging in.

And yes it is getting hard to get behind anyone I feel. And im losing faith again in many. Both parties right now disgust me...and want to spend our money on war. When no one is even attacking us. Never mind all the covid, homelessness, and business closing and people going hungry and loading their homes.

  11. Aw, look at Buster's little face! And Lillith's big, sleepy face! I miss having a big Moom curled up into a surprisingly small space next to/on me of an evening in front of the telly. I hope Buster has a quick recovery.

With your mother's gift, you'll smell like your sprays! No, not that sort of spray. You know what I mean... ;)

Best wishes to Ms Moorecock and all others afflicted. Stay safe, Maddie x

  13. A beautiful post. Have friends and family in the USA who have had or now have COVID. Some have suffered terribly but all are currently OK. Sending you, your friends, and family best wishes for a better year to come. And I’m tiptoeing into 2021, as well!

  14. What a lovely post. Yes we all get a little reflective this time of year. I’m so sorry to hear that this damn virus has hit so close to home. I hope they can all recover.

I’m sorry to hear Buster is feeling poorly. Tim & Ernest send their best.

I think I’m going to pull a George Bailey and decide that all in all, though there have been some struggles, it’s been A Wonderful Life. Be safe and be well.

  28. After months of very low numbers, ours are climbing. Our obituaries fill two pages in the local newspaper now, with most of them coming from the local nursing homes. I heard of one, badly hit, that only 6 out of 180 have NOT tested positive for the virus. I think it's going to get worse. As a matter of fact, right now, I'm showing symptoms.

  29. I'm just now catching up with a Blog Read... Melancholy hit so often in 2020, didn't it? I'm glad Mother got her vaccine, that will give you a Peace. So very Sorry to hear The COVID is now hitting closer to Home. It did for us too, starting in February when the Precious Great-Grandbaby succumbed... and fast forward to so many others who are both Family or Friends who have battled it... some Won their Battle, sadly some did not. May 2021 hold lots of Promise, but it's still dicey and we'll be Careful for another whole Year I think.
