What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?

I can't believe 2009 is over already! Where did all the time go? This year was a odd year to say the least and I am truly grateful for my health, family, the Boy-Toy, friends, and to have a job in this economy. And of course, all of you out there! I wish you all a wonderful and HAPPY NEW YEAR! This year the Mistress and Boy-Toy decided to change things up a bit and entertain in with a intimate dinner and cock-a-tails. We will all start with appetizers of different kinds of cheeses and some smoked salmon. The dinner is going to consist of fillet Mignon, crab cakes and steamed green beans. We will of course be popping huge bottles of Louis Jabot Beaujolais! After dinner the real debauchery will take place and the Mistress's big girl drinks will take place like gin and tonics and cosmos and whatever the heart cdesires! I think at first it will be odd not to be out in a huge club with the thump-thumping, but after going out the last 16 years partying at clubs I think it will be a nice change. But don't worry none, I'm sure the Mistress will still be sauced come tomorrow. That's why the pork and sauerkraut dinner was also prepared today and placed in the frig. Tomorrow when I wake up in my drunken haze, I can pop it in the oven and slow cook it and roll back in to bed with all the boys! Time to get dressed. I hope you all have a very Happy AND Safe New Year! And the night wouldn't be complete for me till I hear the Talented Ella Fitzgerald sing What Are You Doing New Year's Eve. What are you doing tonight? Tootles!

The Mummers and the Mistress

Well, the Mistress is happy to report that I survived the Christmas holiday with friends and family. It was a very nice and relaxing time off and I'm happy to report that the Cosmo's flowed most of Christmas day, so I'm taking every one's word that a good time was had by all. And can I tell ya I had no idea just how many damn versions of the Christmas Carol there were? The Hallmark Channel aired just about all them on Sunday and like a fool I watched them. Some good, some real bad. The rest of the week has been spent cavorting all over and enjoying some good old drinking. Now I'm getting ready to send out 2009 Mistress style with some more drinking and debauching! And the whole city is awaiting the Mummers Parade. Have you ever seen the Mummers Parade? It blows the Mistress's mind that for the most part these are a group of straight men performing down the streets. It looks like a drag show with all the feathers and sequins and the make-up. Here is a mummer.

Here is the fabulous Goddess Raven! See what I mean?

Of course if the Mistress had her way, she would be hitting the town tomorrow night in this lovely frock!!! Loves it. And I'm NOT kidding, I would so wear this with a swank,up-do with piles of pinned up curls!!!

While I don't attend the parade, I have seen it before. It is a lonnnnnnng parade. It generally starts at 10am and goes right thru till 4:00pm. And then there is the evening performances at one of the auditoriums. The Mummers tradition dates back to 400 B.C ,where Latin laborers marched in masks through out the day of satire and gift exchange. This included Celtic variations of trick-or-treat and Druid noise makers to drive away demons for the New Year. Reports of rowdy groups "parading" on New Years in Philadelphia date back before the revolution. Prizes were offered by merchants in the late 1800's. January 1, 1901 was the first official parade. The Mummers Parade is a celebration of the New Year, but is also serious business in Philadelphia. Clubs work year round on their costumes and practice on their routines, for their day in the sun (...or wind, rain or snow.) There are many lively discussions over the scoring by the judges and adherence to the complicated sets of rules the marchers must follow when being judged. String bands are judged on there musical presentations as well as costumes. Some Mummers have been a Mummer as early as 3 and 4 years old and have many members of there family involved. Seeing and hearing a Mummers Parade is a one of a kind experience.

A Merry Mistress Taking Off

Well, I guess this is it. The Mistress is done with work, the baking done, presents wrapped, and the Boy-Toy and Buster Bolfig are all packed up thanks to the chamber maids. We're off to travel home for the Christmas holiday. Christmas Eve has always been so special. We all will go to the Aunt and Uncles house where we will par take of cock-a-tails and little nibbles and then have a wonderful dinner of Roast Beef with Yorkshire pudding. She will also have parsnips and roast potatoes. After dinner we always have her homemade peanut brittle, mints pie and homemade egg nog that is to die for-literally. It will put hair on your chest, after which I will have to shave. After everyone leaves we will go back to my mother's house and have a night cap and then watch A Christmas Carol with George C. Scott, like we have done for years. Then on Christmas day the Mother and I will put together a grand buffet of Roasted Turkey and Stuffing, Chilled Shrimp, Pasta Shells with Ricotta, Baked Asparagus, Baked Parmesan Onions, Bruschetta with Goat Cheese, and an assortment of cheeses and crackers. There will also be all varieties of cookies that my mother makes and her famous Sand tart cookies, nut rolls and fruitcakes. Once the family is there, the Mistress (every year the last couple anyway) will make her famous Cosmopolitans. At least three rounds. After everyone is lit, we will eat and then open some gifts. It really is a wonderful time just being all together. The rest of the visit, we have a Christmas party to tend to and visiting friends in town and from out of town, like Mame Dennis (David Dust to some of ya). I can see her face already when she gets her damn sand tarts!!! While home the Mistress will also pick up her pork roast for New Years Day. I have to go to Weavers Market. They always have the best pork I ever did taste. The Boy-Toy is all overwhelmed with excitement as he HATES pork and sauerkraut on New Years Day for dinner at our place. I say if the little pipsqueak didn't drink so much New Years Eve and end up hung the next day it wouldn't smell so bad! (Edited by Boy-Toy to add: People, it's ghastly. Seriously. I mean, the Boy Toy is German and all, but it's probably the worst smelling day of the year. And my drinking has nothing to do with that.) Hell ,the Mistress is usually drunk as a skunk and still manages to cook the dinner, put it in the oven to roast slowly and then take a 4 hour nap. But that's another story! So I hope y'all gave a nice little ole Merry Christmas and I'll be back before or after the New Year.

The Queens of Drag:NYC

Let the wig-ripping begin!

It looks like a second coming of drag again. First RuPaul will be back with a whole new cat clawing cast of queens in a second season of the RuPaul's Drag Race set to air in Febuary and now another new show is set to begin filming. Producers and reality tv stars join forces to create drag queen comedy with THE QUEENS OF DRAG: NYC. Film and TV producer Larry Kennar (L Word, Barbershop and 50 First Dates), season 4 Project Runway designer Jack Mackenroth and award-winning producer/director and owner of Colt Studio Group, John Rutherford, have come together to produce a television extravaganza called The Queens of Drag: NYC that explores and exploits the glamorous and ghetto-fabulous drag queen scene of New York City.

Drag legend Lady Bunny will reign supreme in this all-star cast of drag divas, which includes the ageless and evergreen Hedda Lettuce

uber-glam Sherry Vine

the hilarious Bianca Del Rio

In addition to these divas, they will be joined by sexpot songstress Peppermint and the classless and campy Mimi Imfurst. Newer, breakout queens nipping at their platform heels like Epiphany, Logan Hardcore, Chanda Lear and Dallas DuBois will join these ladies of illusion. The Queens of Drag: NYC will highlight all the talent and drama that is synonymous with making a living as a drag superstar in the most amazing and unforgiving city in the world. Viewers will see the real grit of drag queens’ lives in and out of drag as they try to dominate the New York nightlife scene and navigate through the struggles of making it in the shiniest, filthiest city in the world. I think it will be great. It will show some people a whole new lifestyle and just how long it takes to get ready, not to mention how hard it is for these queens to be paid to do this for a living. Multiple networks have already expressed interest in the project, and filming is slated to begin in early November. To read more and get some information, please visit www.theQueensofDrag.com. Let the wig-ripping begin!!

Sexy Ski Bunnies

After all this snow fall this weekend, the Mistress is thinking she may take some ski lessons. Especially if the instructors work with equipment like this!!!!!

Oh What Fun

Today while at lunch with my co-workers, we were having a ball just watching holiday shoppers running frantically trying to select gifts yet on there lists, especially the last minute starters. We were just laughing our asses off. And I can laugh because I didn't have but four gifts to get, and I was done two weeks ago. And is it me or does the testosterone triple in the malls at this time of year? There is some damn nice eye candy out there. Just say'in.

The Mistress's Bungalow

I am finally getting around to showing some snippets of the Mistress's abode. You will see by the pictures after decorating the store for like close to a month, my personal style is much cleaner, and very simple. I like very neat and clean surroundings and like to use simple touches like filling jars and apothecary jars with colorful shiny balls. In the tree, I used all white and red lights with various tones and sizes of red balls. In among them are antique blown glass birds with feather tails that were my grandmothers. I just love the pheasant in the middle. Also in the mix of things are some ornaments we received as gifts and ones we picked up ourselves. The Boy-Toy and I get a new one every year to add. The tree topper was from my mother from when I had my first tree upon moving out. And no tree of the Mistress's would be complete with some peacock feathers! I also like to use real pine to fill planters, compotes, and vases, and then add things from nature like nuts, berries and pomegranates. With all this and then throw in some candles, it is really peaceful at night around here with some wine thrown in for good measure, of course!

The little angel wood ornament was a very special gift from my good friend who lives in Atlanta. He got it from the department store John Wanamaker when he worked for Hechts when they took over Wanamakers years ago. I believe he told me it was part of Wanamaker's Christmas trim from years before. It probably like 50 or 60 years old or older. Were not quite sure just when it was used in the trim, but when Hecht's was purging the visual props he grabbed this for me because Wanmanker's was my store now. It's like I will always have a piece of Wanmaker's history. I always incorporate it somewhere. It gives the Boy-Toy the creeps though. Sort of like the Haunting.

Scenes Around Town

Well we survived. We ended up with about 12 or 13 inches, of snow that is. It started later than the weather people thought. It was a great day to continue the baking while watching the snow. The pictures are from a Philadelphia web site. Beautiful pictures. We even got out later in the day.

After dinner and the cookies were made we decided to finally venture out and see how Buster Bolfig would do in the snow. He loved it! Unsure at first, but non the less loved it. It was a nice, but bitter cold walk as it was about 19 degrees out. Yea we won't be seeing "the boys" for days. When we got in the Mistress got out her favorite hot chocolate from Williams Sonoma. It is the best ever. Of course the Mistress always doctors it up just a bit.

Aniversario. I only drink this special rum on special occasions. A good friend's husband brought it back from Venezuela for moi to par take of, and I have been enjoying it ever since. I wish you could buy it here in the states. It brings a smile to my face. And boy did it warm us up. Tootles!

A Warm Idea

Besides all the cookie baking, here's not a bad idea to keep warm too either!

From The Candy Shop

The innocent and doe eyed Ethan Reynolds!

Ahhhhhh Ethan Reynolds, isn't he just adorable!?! Ethan is on his way to top male model status. He was one half of the very hot Ginch Gonch underwear spokes model team. The other half was his hot partner and boyfriend Benjamin Bradley. Apparently the contract dissolved since this hot couple split. Which is disappointing. Those adds were hot. But Ethan has been very busy since modeling for various clothing companies and is now with a modeling agency. I have always thought I'd take Ethan over Benjamin any day. Ben's cute and all, but there is just something about Ethan's gorgeous eyes and his body is just perfect. I really love the photo of him in his swim trucks with the fur vest. Now that is what I'm talking about. Enjoy the Ethan spread. Tootles!
