This weekend certainly brought about the cooler temps...winter has arrived me thinks. No rest for the weary. I had BCSPCA duties on Friday. Might be a tad slow as we are low on dogs right now...which is a good thing, but have a bevy of cats!! Most of the weekend was spent playing in balls baubles bangles and beads. I had five of my seven clients call for me to come to do their decoration for them. The first one was done this weekend...in addition to starting my own place. The income will be very nice to bank. My fifth client, her daughter called and canceled her mother's decorating, as her husband had succumbed to the covid virus, and is much to upset to continue any holiday cheer. Understandably so. I was very shocked to learn he had it let alone passed. They were such a lovely couple. It sure put a bittersweet feeling to the rest of the weekend. I suspect many will be having a time with the holidays this year, in these times. I have been keeping busy with holidays....to keep me busy and my mind off things. Im trying to stay pink...even though I'm trying to keep the blue feeling at bay. My current mood board.
Love me some Auntie Mame! And love your mood board.
ReplyDeleteAnd it's so cool you're doing xmas dècor for people!
Take pics!!
XOXO
I will! My good friend will come take pictures for since he has professional cameras. And if the clients will let me post...I certainly will share.
DeleteIt's always a shock to know someone who's having serious covid or who has died from it, even though it's all around us. We have a friend in hospital with it right now. She should pull through though. They gave her a transfusion of blood from someone who had recovered from covid and so had antibodies against it.
ReplyDeletesorry to hear about your client's passing. "but nobody dies from the virus." - DJT jr.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Lucy was far too old. And most don't understand that the setting for this song is that Mame's broke. And Covid is everywhere. We will all soon know someone who has been hospitalized.
ReplyDeleteLove the mood, even with that sad news. Bittersweet holidays this year.
ReplyDeleteCarlos LOVESLOVESLOVES Lucy as Mame!
I liked both versions, but I can agree with Carlos. I think it's because I like the musical aspect to the film better.
DeleteOh, my... So sorry to hear about your client's husband. It's understandable...the closer this hits to home, the more difficult it is to remain "in the pink."
ReplyDeleteWell, Lucy did okay, though the critics were pretty rough. It's the character, the idea that resonates. So, you go, girl. That mood can spread!
Take care, stay safe.
ReplyDeletexoxo :-)
This was a very bright and cheery post....love the color and that movie was one of my favorites. So I liked those gifs. That's great news if there is not a lot of animals right now right? I hope the cats find homes too. I always feel sorry for them....since their is so many more of them.
ReplyDeleteVery sad about your client's husband. You amaze me with everything that you do!
ReplyDeleteUgh. COVID. That's something no one wants for Christmas, but will end up getting anyway, like a pair of horrid nylon socks, or cheap toiletries...
ReplyDeleteAnyway, on to better things: Kalaidoscopes and Christmas Trees - a winning combination. I'm glad to hear you're making some money, and I'm sure your clients will be thrilled with your displays!
I usually have several account every Christmas to do decorating. This year it comes real in handy. Two clients this year though passed altogether since they aren't having their usual gatherings.
DeleteI can take heart with many this season. I know I'm sad to not being to be seeing my kids, but am ever so grateful we have all come through so far. I really like this set of pictures...very colorful and has a flair to it!
ReplyDeleteAnd the Great Auntie Mame debate!!!! A favorite movie of mine. The part has been played by Rosalind Russell, Lucille Ball, Ginger Rogers, Celeste Holm, Greer Garson, Eve Arden, Susan Hayward, Ann Miller, Juliet Prowse and Angela Lansbury. When asked in 2000 if Barbra Streisand would ever play the role, Bea Arthur answered: "I think she will play it." (Pause) "But not well."
While I think Ros Russell was the better Auntie Mame I preferred and the movie over all, I did like Bea Arthur's Vera Charles better over Coral Browne's. If they ever did yet another update I could see Christine Baranski playing Vera Charles. I liked the characters better too in the Ros version. That said I think Lucy was terrific, and she unfairly took the blame for the movie not fairing well. Ball and Arthur were the best things about that film. While obviously not the best singer, Lucy brought a charisma, a sophistication and a surprising heart to this complex role. And the musical centerpiece, Mame, filmed on a plantation was thrilling in it's execution. Ros would never have been able to sing.
And i would rock that black beaded pant suit in the photo!!!! I hope William is reading this for a holiday gift suggestion!!!!
I had no idea all those ladies played versions of Auntie Mame. I only knew of the two, and of course the legendary Angela Lansbury. I do agree, Bea Arthur's version of Vera was a bit more entertaining.
DeleteThis post brightened my mood greatly.
ReplyDeleteThese pictures made me happy Maddie! And any proper queen loves Auntie Mame. I like all the version I've seen. In a biography I read of Lucy, she told an interviewer on the set of Mame; "This broad is up drinking all night. Do you expect her to sing like fucking Julie Andrews"?
ReplyDeleteThat quote is great!!!!!! No denying Lucy had some spunk!
DeleteDarling boy, you are Mame! Thank you for keeping her spirit alive. And for raising the spirits of those you are decorating for. Such fun. Can't wait to see pics of your place. As for Lucille. Sigh. Killed movie musicals, I'm afraid. This and Lost Horizon. But I blame Lucille, most of all. That voice was not made to sing Jerry Herman. Maybe if Tom Waites writes a musical, it would work. Anyhoo. I do agree with your choice of song. Thank you. Chin up. Tis the season, dear. Tis the season!
ReplyDeleteDid you see the above comment from Nina about the Lucy quote!!!! I think everyone thought her version would have been better received because she was much loved. She certainly was very pretty and glam. And yes.....I will share some pictures when Im done.
DeleteI'm so terribly Sorry to hear of your Client's incredible Loss right before the Holidays! I do Love your Bottlebrush Tree Inspiration, especially that first Image, which initially I thought might just be your place? Are you actually going with Pink this Season? I did a Pastel Christmas once I think, it turned out well in spite of me not being a Pastel Gal... I work better in Sepia or Jewel Tones and a Gypsy Vibe that is very Eccentrically Eclectic. I have had a bit of an infatuation this year with some Black Christmas Trees I've seen on Display in some of the larger Department Stores like Macy's. It is just very Elegant and makes the Ornamentation Pop. They've come out with Trees of so many Hues now that it's endless what you could go with. Stay Uplifted my Friend.
ReplyDeleteFor years Dawn I have done all red lights with accents of red all through the pied de terre. I used to do red and white, but years ago switched to all red...seems appropriate. Bwahahahahaha!!!! Last year at the store we had got in a dark navy blue tree, I almost bought, and thought it would look great in the boudior...but passed on it. I only have so much storage space!!! I will have a post coming shortly. I have really gotten into more natural elements more and more. Maybe next year will be all natural?!? And yes...you know I'm OBESSED with bottle brush trees!!!!!!!!
DeleteI love Auntie Mame. I haven't seen the Lucille Ball version...bad bad gay, I know. I have the DVD somewhere and I must break it out (I must also find and watch the Lucille Ball version).
ReplyDeleteMy favorite movie!!!! There both good...even though I enjoy the Roz Russell version more. We need a movie night!
DeleteSo glad you are actively using your skills. So sorry for your client whose husband passed. I fear that’s all too common nowadays.
ReplyDeleteAnd isn’t pink a healthy color? The saying “in the pink” means healthy I believe.
I love pink!!!! I have quite a few items of pink clothing...it adds warmth to the skin, and most men actually look damn sexy in it. I feel it is a healthy color, but it makes me happy...one reason I use so many hues of pink in my blog.
DeleteWish we could afford to fly you here to decorate for Christmas! And then to pack it all away when it's over. That's the only way anything will be Christmassy in this house this year.
ReplyDeleteAnd I have nice red briefs and a Santa hat I can wear to deck the halls in!!!!!!
DeleteChin up, tits out, keep busy!
ReplyDeleteWish you were here to help with my decs.
Sx
I'll do your decorating if you make me your gorgeous stationary!
