Somehow I think the audience would be greatly entertained by hearing YOU deliver the line "I can make a man out of you." Cher still does some shows, she likes the small theater at the MGM Casino at National Harbor across the river from our nest.
Raquel. What to say. Poor dear. But see, she suffered the double-standard that was prevalent in the industry (still is). She operated the way she saw her male peers behave and paid a price for it - getting labeled difficult. Too bad. She had chemistry on screen. Charisma to spare. With the right director she was fetching and complex. I don't think she ever got a chance to show what she was capable of. Stupid Hollywood. I found her brave, brazen and powerful. I would love to see her today.
As a tween I used to love watching this kind of stuff on the Sonny and Cher show. I couldn't stand Sonny but it was worth sitting thru him to get to her. Two women beautiful in their own way. I've always loved this song, too. Thanks Ms Moorecock.
savannah, there are several possibilities here. The Sonny and Cher variety show that everyone remembers best only ran for about three years, going off the air not because of low ratings (quite the contrary), but due to their divorce. Not too long later, Cher had a solo special that got very good ratings and led to her own solo variety hour. That show did very well the first season, but then ratings began to sag the second, and somehow she was convinced to do a second variety show with her now ex-husband, which in turn ran a couple of years. The Raquel Welch bit could be from any of those.
There's more sexuality on that stage in two minutes than Beyonce, Nikki Minaj and Katy Perry combined.
ReplyDeleteDon't get me wrong, Cher is amazing, but standing next to Raquel dressed like that is a tough gig for any woman. There both Goddesses ++
ReplyDeleteRaquel sure did work those hips!!!!
DeleteWhat a gem! You better believe, Ms. Moorecock, I saw this the first time it came on TV. The Sonny and Cher Show. Boy Im old.
ReplyDeleteThat was GREAT!

ReplyDeleteWas never much of a Raquel fan...but Cher. Yep. Saw her in concert several times. She's got staying power - I love the ones with staying power!
ReplyDeleteThere's two beauties that'll take some people's breaths away...mine included. WOW! I wonder if Raquel has aged as well as Cher has.
ReplyDeleteLet's just say they both have single handily kept plastic surgeons in business.
DeleteRaquel's OK, but I've loved Cher ever since the fifth grade.
ReplyDeleteMt three favorites are all getting up there...Cher, Tina Turner and Madonna.
DeleteI was not aware these two remarkables have ever been together.
ReplyDeleteBig Cher fan! And your summer dining looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteI must have missed that show because I watched Sonny & Cher all the time. Or maybe I'm just o;d and forgotten! xoxo
