LATE NIGHT- VANESSA WILLIAMS

One of my favorite Christmas songs, and one not heard much anymore. Always puts me to a calm and melancholic mood. So pretty and couldn't be sung any more beautifully by another favorite of mine, Vanessa Williams.

  1. Vanessa is glorious. She's really a stunning woman and a vocal genius. It's not the style I might have expected to suit the carol, but it does - oddly and beautifully. I dare say she brought tears to my eyes.

I too think it's one of the more pretty older carols and seldom heard. Ms Williams sings it beautifully. This was an Appalachian poem, sung by a poor young girl dressed in rags, the man who heard it couldn't forget it, it moved him, so he wrote lyrics and music was added. I read about it years ago, it is a beautiful song, many southern churches have it in their hymnal.

  5. Her voice always pleases, that's for sure. Her interpretation on this is sheer perfection.

  6. She's always had a great singing voice. It's a shame we don't hear it often anymore.

She's fantastic in Queen of the Universe.

  8. Love Ms. Williams, a true diva. And the song... yes. I love melancholy Xmas tales. That's why that trio that did Charlie's Brown Xmas is one of my favorite albums... it is so bittersweet. Kizzes. Vince Guaraldi.
