That twisted cow Lady Bunny made this for 2020, but I said she should bring it back again.
But Bunny is not far off. As funny as the video is...we were saying things in New York are closing again. And a reminder.... there are many misconceptions about the vaccines. With my late aunt being a nurse, I've had my vaccines and have planned my booster. They work well to keep those infected-out of the hospital and the morgue. That's why I got them, and it's called I love life. But vaccinated people can still get and spread the virus. That's what "breakthrough cases" are- people who got covid after they were vaccinated. So, the vaccinated shouldn't be too cocky, cuz they didn't get a magic bullet stick in their arm. We got one very important layer of protection, just like masks, frequent hand washing, frequent testing, and not being in huge crowds. It's why I'm still doing all three, especially with this new strain. In the last week I know several vaccinated that have gotten the omicron, and one has sadly passed on. Not to mention my aunt's second oldest and his family will now not be coming to the small memorial we had planned as his whole vaccinated family now also has it. I'm not trying to be a downer, but this virus does not adhere to our Christmas schedule, and it doesn't care one bit about how impatient we are about the ever-changing regulations and the vaccines are by no means a miracle cure to not catch it. At least we are doing our part. And to the anti vaxxers, I have yet to grow any gills.
So sorry, MM. It seems as though NY is one of the worst places to be now in relation to COVID. Very sad.

The one hope we have is the scientific research that seems to indicate that Omicron, although madly easy to catch - vaxx or no vaxx - is much milder in its overall effect on the number of hospitalisations and deaths. It was identified in South Africa weeks ago, and they're reporting no abnormal spike in serious case numbers nor deaths so far. The impact of this new wave on venues and events and daily life is simply because of the sheer number of positive test results, and therefore all the rules that applied to Alpha, Delta and everything before kick in - self-isolation and the like - which means potentially huge numbers of people absent from work in the service and health sectors.
ReplyDeleteIt's not that any number of jabs makes one impervious (that's never been the case with any vaccination programme for any disease since vaccinations were invented), but the fact that even if you catch the bug, its effects are potentially minimised - on you, and your ability to transmit it. Everyone's treading on eggshells again, but as there aren't sufficient scientific facts available about this new variant to reach any firm conclusions, it's probably wise to be over-cautious till the numbers of positive tests drop again... Jx
That is what is killing everything here...so many out with the virus in stores and dining establishments, it is impleading service, or they are closing their doors because of no staffing. My friend in Amsterdam is hot because they went on lockdown again and is now back home working... but he understands.
DeleteCovid is driving even sane people nuts. A friend of mine, who is highly intelligent (and normally has common sense), seems to be falling down the QAnon rabbit hole, wittering on about covid being man made by the Chinese as a weapon of war, funded by Dr Fauci.

But they had no problem get vaccines for shingles, flu, polio, mumps or chicken pox. And never mind when born we get immunized for multiple things, or when we travel to certain countries, we need to get up to 5 vaccines depending on where we're going, but no one bitches about that.

ReplyDeleteIt’s really sad that another holiday season will have a shadow over it. Mandates have to implemented. I’m tired of making accommodations for the unvaccinated. No more shot or test. You either get the shot if your eligible or YOU stay home.

Vaccines prepare your immune system to respond quickly to the virus. And besides that, mask work, And make some people more attractive why other should never take them off. Yes, I went there.

DeleteLady Bunny's video is a hoot -- she's an absolute joy! I just received my third shot of Pfizer-Biontech vaccine yesterday and now I'll hunker down in my snow-covered warren for the holidays. Omicron infections are ramping up in Canada too, but what can one do except vaccinate, have good hand hygiene, mask up and keep social contact to a minimum? Hope you've stocked up on your favourite gin, Mistress! Or at least, some tasty gingerbread, LOL!

DeleteLady Bunny is a National Treasure alright! And you're absolutely correct about the importance of vaccinations to keep us out of the hospital if we catch the very contagious omicron variant! We need to take all the measures we can to stay healthy. There is no "magic bullet."
