"¡OLE!

October is nationally recognized as National Hispanic Month. It began as a way to promote the history, culture and contributions of Hispanic Americans and more specifically we should celebrate all those from, and in,  Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. It's time to pay homage and appreciate the colorful cultures, rich histories,  and the diversity. The LGBT Hispanics are no exception...and  are part of the celebration as well.  Here's to some of my favorite colorful queens, who definitely bring and add to the flavor of the drag world. Not to mention broken their own barriers.

Adora

Miss Understood

San Francisco legend, Juanita Moore

Call Her 6

Serena Cha Cha

Hugaceo Crujiente

Choriza May

Vinchella

Bianca Del Rio

Carmen Farala

LA Ritza DuMont

Naysha Lopez

DJ Nina Flowers

Stonewall And Civil Rights leader, Victoria Cruz

The Fabulous, Supremme DeLuxe

Drag Vulcano

I would be remiss if I didn't mention some of the early trail blazers who were part of the culture and who, some are no longer with us....  Jack "Baby Bean" Garland, Ramon Navarro, Empress  I of the Imperial Court,Jose Sarria, John Rechy,  Sylvia Rivera,  Holly Woodlawn,  Gloria Anzaldua, Pedro Zamora,  and Wilson Cruz

A Happy Hispanic Month to all my readers , members of the LGBTQ and all friends who are apart of this rich culture.
xoxo

  1. The intelligence and down to earth niceness shines out of Victoria Cruz' eyes. All these ladies have something to offer to us all.

  3. I'm shocked, National Hispanic Heritage month and not one candy man in a Speedo from Brazil, or Argentina. What is the world coming to?

  4. Great to see more people talking about National Hispanic Heritage Month, and from a drag perspective.
There's a rich history, that's a major part of this country, from Latino countries and we should all be celebrating it.

Of course, in our house it's a daily celebration.

    1. Many people and cultures and races have formed this country and it's high time to say it is so. It takes a village...a diverse village.

  13. This is the first interesting thing I've seen about Hispanic Heritage month. It's also only the second thing I've seen. The first was Winn-Dixie putting the names of a few Hispanic workers in their ad along with the way they like to eat rice.

    Love,
    Janie

  14. You had me looking up Wilson Cruz on Wikipedia to see if he was still alive. And a shout out to Guillermo Díaz! I recently saw his version (1995) of Stonewall and it was the bomb! I fell hard. I could so see myself falling in love with a cute Guillermo Díaz in or out of drag. This was inspired, dear. Thanks for waving the flag today! Kizzes.

  15. I have a few others. Ricky Martin, Cesar Romero, and author Boze Hadleigh, who's written many books about LGBTQ Hollywood (as well as one about Hispanic Hollywood, titled, appropriately enough, Hispanic Hollywood.)
