AWAKENING

I do believe the Snow Queen may have relinquished , or is getting pushed out by her sister of Spring. Last week and this week it has been nothing but sun and warm temps...today even reached 67! I went up to the lake yesterday since it was so beautiful out, and may have over done it. It's 6 miles around, and I did a double walk/run around the lake, just shy of 12 miles. Needless to say my legs and ass hurt today. I was goin to take another walk today, but I have a guy here re-screening the window screens. But yes, spring is awakening....I couldn't believe how alive the lake was...and even spotted the eagles several times.

Very pleased with this shot. I show several Blue Heron yesterday. Right before this, the heron was eating a fish, which a mink, I think, was going to try and snag from him. But the shot wasn't meant to be.

Said mink.A first!
I have never seen a mink at the lake before. I thought I had to much gin.

Back at the Casa, caught a glimpse of the little wren outside near the bedroom window. I am happy to report I spotted several Blue Birds too....finally. Too darn quick to get a picture. Someone must have something in the feeders they like.

Yes indeed, I also spotted little onion crocus, I call them,  blooming.
They made me happy.

Clarice Starling on the window sill. Between them and the grackles, it was very lively.

While all the racket was going on I enjoyed a breakfast before the run. If I keep eating breakfast like this I'll need to do a 12 mile run everyday...but I don't eat lunch.

And a 50 second video of the spring communing arboretum...

  1. I love these. Bird tweeting is always so much better and soothing than crow cawing and turkey gobbling. Guess which ones I get, unless camping. Off to the retirement manse for the weekend. So far, Balder Half isn't having any adverse side effects from his second shot. Fingers crossed.
I don't think I've ever seen a mink outside of stole form. I like the live ones better.
We all appreciate your assets around these parts, so take care of them!

  4. I bet those four little chipolatas barely touched the sides!

Beautiful, beautiful photos! As much as I love the birds (particularly the heron), my favourite is the reflection in Peace Valley stream with that delicate ripple of concentric circles!

    1. When your tighter than Fort Knox and you enter all four at once, they sure do!!!!!

That and the heron were my two wins of the day Mr DeVice. I had to toss a small pebble in to get that ripple. You were on my mind with this walk run.

You do have a knack for photography. You should get framed prints for some of your nature photos.

  20. A heron and a mink, wow! Since Pennsylvania borders Ohio, I have to think both species can be found here, too, but I never see them. I DO see a lot of Canadian geese, whose natural habitat seems to be apartment complex parking lots. Ah, nature!

    1. We have Canadian grease here like crazy. I had no idea we had mink. I'd never seen one before. I'm sure you must have blue heroin...if you have nice lakes with a marshy section youll spot them. The lakes are the only spot i see them. Occasionally on the ricer too.

  22. A mink! I've never seen one. Everyone must be so happy you're home. I just a few minutes go stepped on the scale. Haven't done so in months and it's something I never needed to bother with. I weigh 10 more than I expected AND more than I've ever weighed in my life!

  23. Lovely photos; it's interesting to see the difference between your wrens and ours (Troglodytes Troglodytes - what a wonderful name for the UK's smallest bird). We used to have several wrens but they were wiped out by my evil cats. However things are looking up as I saw one wren a couple of weeks ago.
