I just heard the news and came rushing to your site for confirmation. So sad. She was such a huge spirit, the stage could barely contain her. She tamed songs like they were lions. She may have danced through the fire, but she was also the fire. Kizzes.
This made me cry. She was my dear father's second love. The first was Lena Horne. I hear his voice in my head now singing along with Tina. Crap, I'm crying again.
This was a total shock to me and I keep moving between hearing her sing in my head, seeing her dance in my mind and just crying. She was a true Diva in a world of wannabes. Rest In Peace my queen.
When I started doing drag, Private Dancer was one of the first numbers I ever did. And many years later when I did boylesque, who knew I do Private Dancer yet again.
This really put a damper on my day when I heard the news. At the time, it was remarkable what she did to reinvent herself after leaving that abusive husband. RIP, Queen.
Hence why today when I feature her NutBush city limits...I couldn't bring myself to do the feature of it with her and Ike. I wanted her to be the soul feature.... one of my favorite songs
Im still in shock. She's a phenomenal singer with an iconic voice, but what's always captivated me was her killer dance moves. Her concerts were pure entertainment. Her, a stage and a microphone and she didn't need all the other nonsense. Even after 5 decades she still sounded the same.
While she may be gone, her voice and her music lives on.
ReplyDeletewell, damn.......

ReplyDeleteI will be humming River Deep Mountain High for the rest of the day.
