GOLDEN EYE

With the Queen of Rock and Roll's passing, that of Tina Turner, I of course like a good gayling, was listening to her tunes yesterday. I had not seen one mention in any new recap that she did a James Bond theme song, Golden Eye. It was indeed on of my all-time favorites of hers and seemed to get very little airtime. For me, it was right up there with Dame Shirley Bassey's three covers she did for Bond films. The song and listening to her still give me chills. I would almost like to see Dame Shirley perform Golden Eye just once, as she is the only other who could do it justice.

Then it occurred to me, that when I first started doing drag, Turner's own Private Dancer was one of the first songs I choose to do a routine too. Seemed to be the perfect choice for me. Then 24 years later I choose it again when I got into Boylesque. Seems to have come full circle.

And my #3 favorite? Hands down henny......

  1. Ohhh yes!
How did I forget she did Goldeneye?? She's got so many iconic songs and performances...! I got the news when I got back home from work. Devastated. I love 'classic' Tina (Nutbush City Limits) but my fav is Simply the Best. Also, What's Love Got to do With It? Really. Is there anything more true? I remember watching that video and thinking WHO IS THAT?
    Icon.

    XOXO

  2. I can't think of one song of hers that I don't recall and love to hear, and that's saying a lot.

  3. You know, of course, the mention of you and Boylesque provoked a Google search of Boylesque in hopes of finding pictures of all your grace and glory. But I got so sidetracked looking at all the gorgeous men that I forgot what I was there for.

  9. I always liked Proud Mary but when I first heard Nutbush City limits I knew I was going to be a lifelong fan. She's saying that song. I completely agree about golden eye. She gave that song Some class and some Swanky feel. And I would love and pay good money to see you perform to Private Dancer.

  10. How anyone could not enjoy Tina Turner, or getting a good mood when you hear Nutbush City Limits is beyond me. When I'm down the dump since my go-to song

  12. Three great songs!!! And having seen your boylesque routine to Private Dancer...I think Tina would have approved....it was sexy and smoldering, if not a bit revealing!!!!

  13. I think her voice was quite something...no other like it. There is nobody that can sing like that anymore. And she could perform at the drop of a hat, at times completely unrehearsed, and she would nail the vocals every time. Legend!

  15. There is not a thing she did I didn't like. But that Goldeneye I had forgotten about. What a gem. What a testament of her impact. She was a transcending singer to the world. People WAY overuse the term "icon" and "Queen of Rock and Roll" but damn these songs alone would be proof of her uniqueness. I am blessed to have been raised with her voice around. RIP Ms. Tina Turner

  17. It was Jon making a comment about the Goldeneye soundtrack that immediately reminded me of the song and you're right, I love it too and it was not mentioned in either of the two articles that I read about her life and passing. Have a lovely long weekend!
