MOOD BOARD

This weekend the travel bug was biting. I highly doubt there will be any big travel abroad this summer or year yet except for my usual beach escapes to P-town and Rehoboth Beach, and when we do travel, I think myself and MM#1 Fan are going to Narobi first. I've bumped Budapest back till a springtime visit of 2023 to the dismay of Warbucks. Since we're talking Africa, we have thought of Morocco now also. You may have guessed; I seem to like not the common places to travel. I also have a good friend Airazekia who is from Morocco who highly recommends the trip , though she is partial, lol. Morocco looks to be an unforgettable country for it's unique experience and a place for great memories. It's a north African country with stunning scenery, fascinating history and lots of culture, vibrant color, tasteful cuisine, those incredible tile works, and all those amazing spices. Not to mention filled with snow capped mountains, barren deserts, maze-like medinas, and brightly colored souks, and relaxing beaches. France, Spain and Africa have all had an influence on this country. My friend said you can get lost in their narrow alleyways of ancient medinas designed to confuse potential invaders. And when you think of Morocco, you probably think of vast deserts and a very hot climate, But if you draw a line from Northen Morocco to the US, you'll find that it is at a similar latitude to Washington DC a region that experiences very cold and often snowy winters, and Morocco is no different. And lets not forget camels. I love camels and have ridden a few. And the men. I'm no sure what their like, but I have yet meet one I didn't like. Let's travel....

  1. I was once for a two day stay because of our schedule. GO!!!!!! You won't soon forget that trip.

  2. An old woman once told me, "Go and do while you're young. When you get old, you have to take the doctor with you." Very true words unless you're into old men in plaid Bermuda shorts with Argyle knee socks and sandals.

    1. Wel...l Warbucks thinks he's a doctor and tries to give me rectal examines. And he is fond of the Argyle print Jimmy.

I also think you got Duchess Deedles hot!!!!!!!

    2. Deedles is overheating. Which is it? The Bermuda shorts or the knee high socks?

    3. It's the combo, Empress! Balder Half is retired, and that is now his uniform of choice. The sandals just take it over the edge. Oh, dear, I think dementia is creeping up on me! Dementia is BH's new nickname.

  3. My niece is just back from a trip to Morocco, she liked it but preferred Egypt (where she went in February) as the women there were less downtrodden.....and of course the awe-inspiring Egyptian tombs and temples. My niece has inherited her Grandma and her Dad's wanderlust.

    1. I have friend from Egypt as well, but they haven't been back in ages they said, as it has gotten a bit dangerous. Did your niece have or see any issues? I was told to make sure to have a tour guide if I went and stay alert.

    2. Fran was aware of the police/military with armaments but no real problems, which doesn't sound much different from when I went there a couple of decades ago.

  4. Very pretty. I don't have a single traveling bone in my body. Well, maybe a little cartilage.

    1. Cartilage? I not familiar with where that is? But if there is gin, Im in.

    2. These days my biggest travels are into the garden and the market. I hope to go to the beach place this summer, William would urge me to go.

    3. Cartilage is an ancient city in Tunisia (right near Tunis). It was built in Roman times and destroyed by the Moors. As long as you’re going to be in northern Africa, maybe you could drop by.

    4. Erm - Carthage? Been there. It rained! Jx

    5. Guys, guys! Enough! I was making a (unfunny it seems) joke. Cartilage is the connective tissue that makes the ear bendy and the nose soft (these are not scientific descriptions). I was connecting it to my previous statement of not having a traveling bone in my body, just cartilage because of my cruising and camping days. Ship cruising and tent camping. Okay, I've dug my word hole even deeper. I'll just leave now. Boy, get up for my 3:00 a.m. pee and find this. :)

    6. Fear not, I got the play on words, Deedles

    7. Thank you, Helen. I wish I could think of something pithy to say, but I've been awake since 3:00 and coffee ain't helping !

  5. Such great plans. That’s just a ferry ride away for us, and we’ve heard it’s incredible, but we haven’t gone because we’ve climbed our high horses (camels?). We won’t go because of their complete lack of LGBT+ rights and legally sanctioned hatred of queer people. Given what’s going on in the USA and so many other places, maybe we should get off our high camels.

    1. Yes...that was one drawback to the trip. I have the feeling I wouldn't blend in to easy either being a blond haired, blued-eyed gay twinkcub! The most gay friendly place in Africa just may be Capetown, but that is far down my bucket list to see. But from what my friend showed me Morocco is just soooooooo beautiful. I think I keep selling myself more on it.

    2. I'm with Mitchell - I have always wanted to go for all the reasons you cite, but (in common with most North African states) their record on gay rights, or even tolerance, has taken a backward slide. I visited Tunisia and Eqypt back in the 90s when both were relatively tolerant (and had loads of covert fun!), and the Madam and I went to Egypt as recently as 2003, but both countries have visibly started scapegoating LGBT people - presumably as a means of staving-off the extremists such as ISIS. Morocco is a royal fiefdom, homosexuality is illegal, and gay-baiting is commonplace. Personally I would think twice before paying any of my hard-earned cash into the coffers of a state that wants to condemn me to prison. Jx

    3. Oh dear. Now very torn...and for the reasons you cite Jon. Perhaps I should go in drag? Jokes aside, very sad to hear such. But even my friend said if we went, to have a tour guide only she would recommend. We shall see. But did you ever post about your Egypt trip?!?! I had no idea you'd been. Now that is one trip I wouldn't mind twisting your arm to hear about.

*runs off to get a cock-a-tail*

    4. Darling! I may have been blogging for many years, but only since 2007...

No, I have never posted about either trip to Egypt, but, suffice to say both were faboo - the first time I went to Luxor I stayed at King Farouk's Winter Palace (now a hotel), ffs! [and had several of the staff...]

      Jx

    5. Gin Blossom, I couldn't see you staying in anything less than a palace and enjoying more than several of the staff. I would enjoy such tales and frolic......

  6. You could always go to Mr. DeVice's "Gin Trap."

    1. And I just bet he'd use gin to capture me...not that I'd mind, mind you. Though the Gin Trap is rather adorable, you know, for my afternoon changes and tete-tetes.

  8. STUNNING POST! I needed a getaway today. I think I would go in a heartbeat. And I bet if you two could get an all-inclusive it would be the way to go. You do certainly pick unusual places to go Ill say that. I know of no one who's been to African continent. Looks spectacular though.

  9. Are you kidding ???? I would go for the pottery alone!!!!!!!!!!! I don't know I'd go, but there is no denying it is a beautiful place. I would have to see your post from there.

  11. I say GO too! It's the one of two continents William and I never traveled, and we had talked about going to Morocco and Algeria several times but never made it. I have always loved the sights I see from there and would be sending home some of the beautiful pottery and spices. I could spend hours walking those alleys and building to view the tilework. Not to mention I have all the caftans and moo-moo's and hats and turbans to wear! I don't know anyone who has been to Kenya either. Isn't that where Nairobi is?

  12. That tiled pool looks inviting. So does that beach!

  13. All those fabulous colors and villages and alley ways and the promise of men swathed in robes begging you to discover their hidden treasures .... wait, what? Mood board? I'm in the mood for a hot Moroccan guy and a desert oasis.

  14. Soooooooo dreamy!!!! I am in awe and left wordless over that blue alley way and stairway. I bet exploring there would be a memorable experience. Very calming mood board today.

  15. This is an absolute MOOD.
Go. Go, if you can. I have been postponing trips for years and then the pandemic hit and I was so fcking sorry I did not follow my gut.
These photos are so absolutely beautiful!!

    XOXO

  16. I had to go back and read which you had ridden several times, camels or men! But hasn't it been a lot of both??? And don't worry about the men. You are like the UNICEF of giving love to the Earth's men freely. Lovely board today though.

Tundra Bunny here... everything does look exotic and exciting, but I wouldn't go to Asia, Africa or the Middle East these days at gunpoint! Consider Iceland or Canada -- both would be much safer vacation destinations, much cheaper and just as much fun!

    1. I'd do Iceland and Finland, I think. It's been years since I was in Canada, but I have traveled Canada pretty extensively. We use to spend whole summers up there.

    2. We stayed in Vancouver for 6 months in 1971 and then for another short visit in 1977 - if I couldn't live here, I'd opt for Vancouver, such a beautiful city.

I have read Jon's comment - please be very careful if you do decide to go.

Travel every chance you get. My high school teacher said how important it is to travel before starting a family because it is so much harder to do then. Maybe that is why I am still single!?? LOL!

  22. I'm not much of a traveler anymore, but if you have a chance to go to Morocco and/or Egypt and it's safe go for it!
