A new day brings new opportunities. It had been over 25 years since I moved from Harrisburg, and now I'm back again. The move had come about a complete surprise. My landlord who was swell, had decided he and his wife were going to retire, and sell all their rental properties, which is what prompted the move. He gave me all the time in the world to move, but since I am working at the shop during the week, I couldn't see putting out the money for rent, utilities and other expenses when I'm not there more, so I decided to move out within two months of him telling me the news. The movers were not bad...some cute Latina men's, and very professional. The Lad helped with small belongings, and the movers brought the rest to Harrisburg the next day that didn't go into a storage unit, and other things including the houseboys came to the ancestral Borghese Manor. The only downfall to the move was I was unable to meet up with fellow bloggers Mitchell, who was in from Spain, and Travel Penguin, from DC.. I was completely bummed. But I digress. I plan to return back to that area again, but who knows where the road will lead. I'm already wrapped into many aspects of town again, and seeing old and familiar faces. Volunteering with the ASPCA and the Cumberland County Democrats. Have many coming events I've been invited to already, and lent my services to a charity drag show. I was tickled when I ran into one of Harrisburg drag legends Ito Lame at a mutual birthday party. I hope to plan some walk abouts soon to relax and start sharing some of the area here. It's a pretty area, but no where as quaint, charming and BLUE as where I was living. But I can make myself happy anywhere I think. And it's a good feeling to be able to spend time with family. This somehow feels right for the moment. Another plus has been gardening. I couldn't do that at my apartment. So as Poison Ivy would say, Let the greening begin! Some things are new and some things....well, the critters are already finding me.
The above is a snap from the glorious capitol complex here and of course...not far from water again. A sunset on the Susquehanna River.
Meanwhile the flowering bulbs I planted did pretty well in the ground and pot gardens.
A parrot tulip!
For Debs!
A honesty plant
The irises are just about to bloom.
The dogwoods are in bloom currently, but will be done here in a couple days.
The magnolia was stunning this year, but as always never lasts very long. Some early morning deer....I attracting the critters already. The bird feeders are all set up already and we shall see what I can attract here. There seems to be a lot of the same breeds I got at the Casa.
Some choice blooms in the kitchen
And not to worry.
My boudoir has already been redone in my trademark dark navy blue. More to come in good time.
Tundra Bunny here (I just can't get the hang of this new comment format and my icon won't appear).... You are one of those lucky people who can bloom wherever they're planted. LOVE the yellow daffodils and pussy willows (among my faves) juxtaposed with the navy wall paint too. And I'm sure you'll attract a whole new gang of squirrels, birds, deer and bears in no time, LOL! Let the gin cock-a-tails commence!
ReplyDeleteOh....you know ALLLLLL the different gins and other libations made it to the Borghese Manor.
DeleteI'm sure a UHaul trailer was involved!
DeleteSo glad to hear the Bluecoat and Hendrix survived the move.
DeleteHurrah! As well as what will no doubt be a fabulous abode, I look forward to seeing what you do with the new garden! With summer coming, I expect shirtless-houseboys-a-go-go! Jx
ReplyDeleteI was off today, and already taking inventory of what we need to get at the greenhouses for summer and into the ground. I would like to try some delphiniums again this year. I think I have a much better spot this year.
DeleteDelphiniums are magnificent!
DeleteWe grew them for several years. As long as you can protect the baby shoots from the slugs and snails (we used old coffee grounds), and have a sunny spot for them to thrive in they will grow! Unfortunately now we have to grow everything in pots - and in semi-shade - we had to ditch ours when we moved... Jx
Very pretty! I must say, you've been a busy little beaver! I'm going to miss the usual suspects, but you'll find new ones. Love me some daffodils.
ReplyDeleteIm taking a break till I do anymore updates I tell you that.
DeleteFunny story about Ito. A long, long time ago I worked with Ito at the Harrisburg Marriott. Back then he was Ito Amadore. Small world, eh?
ReplyDeleteHA HA! Ito is STILL the person to go to, to get your hair did. I believe she still does most of the woman news anchors hair in the area. She was one of the first ones to introduce me into the gay nightlife here., threw hell of FABULOUS parties, and not to mention the one to introduce me to drag. She was stunning, and still very colorful and eccentric looking.. She is pretty low key these days.
DeleteJon here - - I seem to be permanently cursed by Blogger. My account isn't recognized and I'm forced to comment anonymously. Your photos are wonderful as usual - the flowers and blossoms are gorgeous. I never heard of a parrot tulip.
ReplyDeleteI had issues when I first returned and was like What the hell did blogger do now? But it seems to be fine now. Parrot tulips are cool. They are often bigger and taller than regular tulips, and often are cup-shaped with fringed, twisted and ruffled tulips decorated with vivid, flame-like splashes, stripes or feathery markings and ends at the tips. There pretty neat.
DeleteAwesome bee photo, Mistress -- I love it, thanks! I enjoyed all your photos, especially those beautiful flowers and the pussy willows!
ReplyDeleteI saw that bumble bee going from flower to flower and knew I had to get a picture of it.
DeleteSo THATS why the move came out of nowhere. Well, I will enjoy seeing a whole new set of post and look forward to seeing your hometown through your eyes. I LOVE that navy color. And your collage wall looks great.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you're getting settled. Moving and setting up can be stressful as Im about to downsize into a smaller home within the year. It's just too much.
ReplyDeleteYour blog is going to be like reading the next sequel in the Mistress Borghese's life! I see your spring flowers did very well already, and how dare you tease with just a small glimpse of the boudoir?!?!?!? Looks very handsome. I have been to Harrisburg once, so I will look forward to seeing what you will care to show us. I can imagine you still miss Bucks County too. Do you plans to visit often? And sorry to hear you couldn't hook up with your blogger friends. I catch Mitchell from time to time.
And do I spy a Wedgewood vase?
OMG
ReplyDeleteYou'll have to give us a tour of the house! I see it's a chic as expected though. That wall and the picture gallery? I'm ready to die.
And so glad that you're finding your footing right away! Seriously, moving is one of the most traumatic things for me. Get those Dems riled up so we defeat the Repugs in the coming elections and 2024!
And I love the flowers!
XOXO
I love a good picture gallery wall.
DeleteIt shows how posh the Palazzo Borghese is that they have mere Wedgewood in the kitchen
DeleteSound like the move went smoothly.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe
WAIT! Is the infamous canopy bed with the drapes gone?!?!?!?!? That was luxury darling.
ReplyDeleteI do pop in and soak up some goodies, but things are still hectic here. Still, all your Spring blooms do my English blood good. The Man and I have been stuffing plants into the poor car and are down to the final orchid. It wont fit so will have to be carefully warred-and-carried. The only delphhiums I can ,manage are artificial!
ReplyDeleteThanks for popping in Dinahmow. I've seen your gardening. And it is always so pretty and eye-popping.
DeleteI am glad your move worked out. I feel sad for Bouvier (and I usually do not get sentimental about tree rats). I imagine he misses you and your nuts, as does the Lumbersexual.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure who misses my nuts more?
DeleteYou're stylish wherever you rest your head.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the cheering flowers!
Sx
And there are those who think you can't come home again. Looking forward to your posts.I hope mom enjoys having the houseboys around. NYC - next time. You missed a great burger and passable margarita.
ReplyDeleteWishing you much happiness in your new home, Mistress.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure the local wildlife can sniff out a good heart like yours. You'll be fighting them off.
Lovely flowers. I especially like the parrot tulip!
I've missed you Christina! I hope your trip to Amsterdam was a good one.
DeleteHuntleyBiGuy:
ReplyDeleteIm glad you’ve settled in. The flowers are gorgeous. And I’m glad to see you’ve got your political hackles up. We’re going to need all hands on deck.
When it comes to the political, you have that right! All hands on deck, for sure.
DeleteWe need all the help we can get.
DeleteHow like you, to make everything bloom wherever you go! Thanks for the great pics. And bravo for all the volunteer work. It sounds as if you're already quite well established in the gay society circles there, do have fun. Wishing you the very best. Kizzes.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear all is going well! Now if you want to send any extra honesty plants to DC. They could use them badly.
ReplyDeleteHmmmm, I don't have enough of them I surmise....
DeleteYou've already been strucing things up (again) at the ancestral home. Your mom must be in hog heaven having you there.
ReplyDeleteHarrisburg isn't as Blue - but I can see you helping to change that.
I'm glad to see you're settled into your new place, but I'm going to miss Bouvier. I love the new flowers!
ReplyDeleteDoes seem rather odd to come out in the morning and not see Bouvier acommin for his nuts. But my mother has several squirrels...............
DeleteI'm a parrot fan too.
ReplyDeleteNow he has two homes...hours apart.
ReplyDeleteHave I mentioned I'm glad your back? Well I am! Can't wait to see some posts from your neck of the wood.
ReplyDeleteYou're spoiling us with these Spring blooms! Those three red tulips in the second bulb photo look for all the world like three showgirls! I'm sure you'll have a lot to show when it comes round to this year's Garden Photos Event.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I can't wait to see some photos from your walks.
