This post comes at a good moment. While reading blogs today, I came across Travel Penguins blog where he asked, "What do you take pictures of?" Everything! I recently got out and about in Philly for a gathering and it felt wonderful to get out and about after being holed up from the pandemic. It's like a whole new I'm Coming Out! It felt wonderful to be back in the city again. Whether with people or not, I can always entertain myself and explore. It was a rather melancholic moment. I sometimes miss living in a cosmopolitan city environ, where the sense of community is strong, everything is at your fingertips and no need to drive anywhere. And Philly is a very walkable city. And heavens know I love walking. But at my middle years, I don't know I'd want to live in the city again. As a very social and visual person, I fear my mind would burn out. When I'm in New York City especially, my mind goes into visual overload, and I arrive home burnt out mentally. I am one to take it all in and soak it up. When living in the city atmosphere before, I recall someone always wanting to do something, so I had no time to myself. Yes, these days my life seems to have gone the Lisa Douglas way. But here is what I took pictures of that day. So many different neighborhoods in the city.
Old City
Love that bookcase wall art -- so creative!
ReplyDeleteCaught my eye right away Debs.
DeleteThat bookcase is ingenious and Trevor is adorable. I love cities, but I can only take so much of the big ones (get your mind out of wherever it is) like NYC before I need a break.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. I long four-day weekend is all I need in NYC now and Im mentally burnt out. The same with most of the big ones. lol
DeleteI love that you take pics of whatever calls your attention. Same.
ReplyDeleteI don't have your eye, though. Love the bookcase art! And Trevor is delish.
XOXO
You too huh? I take way to many, but delete many when the mood passes.
DeleteMy Instagram stories can get nuts!!!!
With Trevor as server, I'd be feasting... Jx
ReplyDeleteSee below my dear.
DeleteBut yes, he was just flawless! I've always wanted a poodle.
Trevor would be an ideal lunch.
ReplyDeleteTrue, but for me more the app-a-teaser.
DeleteTrevor, eh? I'm definitely past the cosmopolitan years of my life.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful day you had! Your photographs make for a relaxing armchair tour and I'm sure you gave the yummy Trevor a big tip, LOL!
ReplyDeleteWe all appear to have out minds in the gutter today!!! Well spring is coming.....
DeleteCity living...yep, getting to be waaaay too big here. Pop here when I moved in: approx. 250,000. Now: 2.3 million. Ugh! Not walkable at all, city transportation sucks, and it takes forever to drive anywhere more than 5 miles away. A place like New Hope would be preferable - but it needs to be warm. 😊
ReplyDeleteI give you kudos. I would like to visit, but don't think I'd enjoy living where you are.
DeleteIt's a great place to visit - the entertainment is off the charts. Living here has become tedious.
DeleteI was at first skeptical when I came to Philly, now I absolutely love it! And the city is so diverse with different neighborhoods and cultures, so rich.
ReplyDeleteYou got some good pictures. I love the one of the aprartment house up close and the firescape. I have a thing for firescapes. How could YOU NOT go to Shane's Candies?!?!?!
And I was just in Washinton Sqaure West Park today on my lunch break. I think I could still smell your phenomes there Mistress! I have always lived in Philly and have yet owned a car. And like you I adore NYC, but it's fun to visit. Philly is amore do-able city while not being "too much".
ReplyDeleteGreat picture and I know where many were taken.
A Philly girl through and through.
DeleteLove the Ben Franklin wearing the mask! Here Here!
ReplyDeleteI love America ‘S city streets
ReplyDeleteCarrie Bradshaw’s brownstone
Holly golightly’s apartment
I love them x
I have visions of the same John, your right. When I moved to Philly, thoughts of Carrie and the girls often floated into my head, though Holly was more my life truth be told.
DeleteI fell in love with the architecture cuz, you know, I'm a whore for it. And then the books arranged so fabulously, cuz I'm a whore for books.
ReplyDeleteAnd the cocktails because, yes, whore, cocktails.
Then Trevor because ... whore.
No wonder I think your good people.
DeleteThough they're now associated with poor neighborhoods, I always thought it would be kind of cool to have a fire escape right outside your apartment. Then again, a burglar might find one tempting.
ReplyDeleteGoing back to John comment, you could go out there and sing Moon River from Breakfast at Tiffanys!!!
DeleteYou can keep Trevor, dear. But that drink? What is it? Looks sumptuous. Great photos. And yes, that wall at that cafe or coffee place... amazing. Glad you're getting out and about. Okay... now, here's a challenge. Go and take pics of all the cruising places in Philly. That's the tour I want to go on. Kizzes.
ReplyDeleteCruising places in Philly??? You want pictures of my bedroom?
DeleteAnd Trevor made an excellent cock-a-tail. That drink I had was a blood orange gin fizz.
DELISH!!!! I adore a guy who can make me a tasty cock-a-tail.
A lovely post!
ReplyDeleteI haven't been down into Philly in three years now and miss it. But over the years since the early 90's has the city come a looonnnng way. Last there, I will admit to feeling safe walking around at night even. I love all the pictures you captured, and now you have me wanting to visit Shane's. There homemade candies are scrumptious. I good girlfriend of mine lives in that very apartment building you got the close up of on all the balconies. It's off Washington Square West is it not?
Excellent post! I have been to Philly twice, and had an excellent host and guide. The pictures make me think we should plan a return visit and soon.
ReplyDeleteI have always wanted to come to Philadelphia but have yet. You make a nice case.
ReplyDeleteI heard Philly is pretty progressive. If I could meet someone from past and visit with it would be Ben Franklin, and there other I also would like to meet.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe
Weeeeee the City of Brotherly Love! I haven't been in years but had a blast when I was there. I seem to remember a huge farmers market, indoors. It was incredible. So much history there and so many things to do. You take nice pictures; I love the angles you take.
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love the creativity of that bookshelf! Wow, the mind of whoever thought of that must be awesome!
ReplyDeleteDoes Trevor (at least in this picture) remind anyone else of Heath Ledger?
Are you allowed to take the books off the shelves? If you can't do that then this bibliophile is not interested, no matter how clever the conception and realisation.
ReplyDeleteI believe you can Helen. I didn't really look to closely...but i believe the books not painted were the ones patrons could pull and read.
DeleteYou do have quite the eye. The architecture in the east is so grand and historic. And the last morsel you left us with is the cherry on the top.
ReplyDeleteLove the creativity of that book shelf!!
ReplyDeleteAnd early on you said "Coming out"...and now Diana Ross's song is running through my head...it will play there all day! :)
Yep...that is indeed the song that was in my head JM.
DeleteThat bookcase is amazing. There's no way I could have thought of that even if I tried.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely hot substance provider! Great set of photos…not sure I’ve actually ever been to Philadelphia…family roots being In Pittsburgh and DC…but this makes me want to think about it!
ReplyDeleteI love me some Philly!
DeleteThat was cool. I had never seen something like that before.
