Being in visual display and fashion, I love a good creative fashion editorial. Photographer Melvin Sokolsky has always defied convention. Like his peers Irving Penn and Richard Avedon, Sokolsky dreamed the impossible and helped revolutionize the art of fashion photography during the heady 1960s, where the photographer captured elegant models soaring through the air and floating in bubbles over Paris and New York. Sort of ironic to look at this now, as we are sort of in our own bubbles.Fashion was from the greats...Yves Saint Laurent, Nina Ricci, Balenciaga, Dior and de la Renta.
And now this evening, what a better tune to set to these fabulous photos to, then with Emma Bunton, in of my favorite songs I used for drag routines. The vibe gives me chill childern.
The bubbles are giving me Glinda the good witch. Very, very ahead of his time!
ReplyDeleteAnd that song’s choreo is pure Fosse. Sweet charity. Get me bodied. NOW.
XOXO
When Maddie did that number in Philly it brought down the house.
DeleteI love the lyrics, I love the song, I love the choreography, I love her hair, I love the dancers, I love the video, I love her smile and that fashion spread is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI cannot get enough of the 60s vibe of this video and post, as well as the song. It is awesome!! She the only Spice Girl who did any good music solo.
ReplyDeleteYour our Emma Bunton with sexy hairy legs!
ReplyDeleteAnd you always seem to find the best pictures to what relevant now, I swear. Those are spectacular.
Your our Emma Bunton with sexy hairy legs! And that big thing between his legs.
DeleteWhat's not to like? Maybe!
ReplyDeleteThe bubble thingy made me think of 'The Boy In The Bubble'.
The movie, or the Paul Simon song tootes?
DeleteThose bubbles would be perfect for social distancing.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm getting a Joey Heatherton vibe in the video!
those fashions are classic, elegant, sophisticated, modest, timeless. I was thinking audrey hepburn as I looked at them. I'll play your video tomorrow, since everyone but me is asleep now.
ReplyDeleteSo chic and fun! Now I wonder how they did that?
ReplyDeleteAnd the song....Insanely irresistible! I remember too well that number gurl.
This article about Melvin Sokolsky might help explain.
DeleteNow you know Mads, I love a good 60's vibe. Now if I could pass a bubble, I could go on with my evening.
ReplyDeleteNew York is already suffering, by god, don't decide to let loose now!
DeleteThe bubbles were very cool, very different.
ReplyDeleteGood upbeat tune, reminds me of that little ditty on Sesame Street many years ago. Mahna mahna, do do.. dee do do!

DeleteI believe this is what you are singing...
How apt. We could all do with a bubble each to go out for food and meds!
ReplyDeleteHow innovative. The sixties really were a time of creativity and sweeping away all the gloom and sadness after the war, I suppose.
I was just a child in the sixties but I do remember my "hippie" aunt telling me about San Francisco and the flower power people.
A wonderful time to be alive.
That first shot is stunning. The whole idea is amazing, pretty much. And I adore that song by Emma Bunton. So catchy! One of my favorites of hers.
ReplyDeleteOh, how I'd love to see one of your drag routines to this tune. Bubbles Borghese, maybe?
ReplyDeleteThat's has a ring to it!
DeleteThose images took a lot of work to set up and get just right. Today, Photoshop would really help.
ReplyDeleteLove the pics, and Emma Bunton! Thank you for the cheer-up chills!
ReplyDeleteSx
Now you know I am loving this!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI wish women still had such style as this.
Amazing!
ReplyDeleteThis gives me some great ideas...if we were still doing some shows. These are amazing!
ReplyDeleteHaven’t had a chance to check out the video - but I will - but totally enjoying the exceptional b/w photography (my avocation...I try to post my work on my blog occasionally...) and thoroughly enjoyed this post. Great subject matter, captured so well!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool. I love fashion editorials like this with a splash of the non ordinary.
ReplyDeleteThose are very chic! The 60's was very fun fashion wise.
