DETECTORISTS

As many of you know, I watch very little American televsion. Today I was watching my BBC and binge watching the Detectorists,  a British single-camera television comedy series which is written and directed by Mackenzie Crook, who also stars alongside Toby Jones.  The series is set in the fictional small town of Danebury in northern Essex and the plot revolves around the lives, loves and metal detecting ambitions of Andy and Lance, members of the Danebury Metal Detecting Club. The show is slickly written and well done and delivered. And I very much enjoy the theme song written and preformed by British musician Johnny Flynn..a rather nice ditty for the day.
Now off to watch Finnian's Rainbow.

  1. The BBC has the quirkiest programming.
    I rather like his voice.

    1. They do. I have all buy given up with a few exceptions to our own television shows.

  2. Sometimes American TV is too pat, too expected, too vanilla. Brit TV has more of an edge, and I do love some edge!

    1. I heard a few shows they'd like to bring here. They will never be able to do these shows justice. Doc Martin is one. How can you have Doc Martin without Martin Clumes!?!?!?!?

  3. Probably the best TV series I have seen in a LONG time. Real meaning, real heart and real soul throughout, that encapsulates you into their world; the real world. And this soundtrack really is the perfect icing on the cake.

  4. Love the song!!! I enjoy the show very much. Sadly if this aired in America, it wouldn't last It's too well written and smart for our viewers. Right over their heads.

  5. It's a series I have missed completely. However, I continually admire your propensity for viewing obscure British telly, dear Maddie! Jx

    1. It was a little gem I fell upon my complete accident...and loved it since. The great Diana Rigg has a part in later seasons.

  7. I love everything about this show: The gentle, beautiful music; the quiet, understated humour; the wonderful acting and, of course, those glorious Suffolk skies.

Hope your keeping sound and safe Maddie.

I though of you yesterday when watching Finnians Rainbow. I remembered our conversation of how Og creeps me out. Even though Tommy Steele is pretty handsome.

  10. Interesting, I haven't heard of that show before. However, I don't watch BBC productions literally at all so, not surprising.

    I'll take a listen! ^.^

    1. He's probably wondering if he should have done that nude scene in a Shakespeare play.

  14. I was in the kitchen, preparing the traditional St Patrick's Day meal (I brine my own briskets) when I heard the opening strains of the credits and yelled out, "Finnian's Rainbow!" Yep, knew it right off.
So many good BBC shows. I sometimes wish PBS would import more of them. I'm more into the period pieces, though....
