Just like the Baldwin Sisters on the Walton's, there is a long family recipe of my aunt and uncles come the holiday, sure to put you into a lovely holiday mood. After a cup or three of these you will be in a swell mood, and if your hosting or going to a party, this will be a sure fire way to liven it up.We often find ourselves ill prepared for a holiday soiree, and this gem is a quick remedy if need be. It's the Elder Family Nog!!!
Elder Egg Nog
6 eggs yolks
1 cup of granulated sugar
1 cup of cognac
2 tablespoon vanilla
1 cup of rum
2 qts of light cream
6 egg whites
1/2 cup of 10x sugar
First you'll want to taste test the hootch, you know, make sure it is ok. Oh look, I just found an empty glass with ice in it. Well we can't have that now in my house.
Now here comes the fun part. In a large bowl beat, and I mean beat, the separated egg yolks till nice and thick, then add granulated sugar beating and beating it, till light. Please... you guys like beating spare me.
Now , taste test the cognac and rum again, just to double check it's still ok to use. Slowly stir in rum and cognac.
Add 1 1/2 qts cream, 2 tablespoon vanilla, and 1/2 the egg whites, and beat it, beat it real good until will combined.
It will look nice and smooth like such. It's that wonderful..Happy Holidaze everybody.
In another bowl, beat, I told you there was lots of beating it, the remaining egg whites till nice and foamy...gradually add in the 10x sugar..beating it after each entry.
Take another swig of the remaining cognac and if see it alright still. Hell add another picnch I say. Noe listen here...gently stir egg whites and remaining cream into the egg yolk mixture, stir and beat gently. And then put in the damn refigitor. Chill for some time. In the meantime, how's about fixing a nice cognac on the rocks in a tub, err glass on the rocks then nog done chillin.
Now there the Mistrees is good tight and lit we take now out of the big box then makes things cool, and pouring a lovely glass of egg nog. It will look creamy and frothy and semi thick... like Margie McClure, who stuffs herself into that holiday dress at the womans auxiliary. I say just because it comes in your size doesn't mean you should wear it! Anywhore, Grate and dust some nutmeg on the top. The drink, not the houseboy. If you can see unlike me, it will look like this dear readers. Serve with stolen, cookies or on the abs of a houseboy.
Where was I? Oh.....Now that is how that for some holidays cheer?
I say what the hell, take to the stuck up neighbors party and liven it up, lord knows her party needs all the help it can get.... or have hunky neighbor in for some holiday merriment, and Happy Holidaze from the Mistress everybody you have a good one......πΆπΆ Ring aling, ding a ling, soon it will be Christmas day...π΅πΆ and Ill probably wake up naked under the tree again...

ReplyDeleteMe? Go to store, pick up Southern Comfort eggnog, add some rum, wait for blood sugar levels to rise and prepare for incoming yeast infection! Since I don't do holidays, it ain't worth the trouble or suffering :)
I'll take your words on that tootes. I hesitate to get it at the store...in the past it tends to be thick like buttermilk.
DeleteEggnog is not supposed to be thick? I've always had it that way. If you add enough liquor to it, it thins out a bit. I do like it in ice cream form also.
DeleteYes, Deedles, for some reason the homemade kind is light and fluffy, almost like when a milkshake starts melting. It is tasty.
DeleteI have a similar recipe: you combine the yolks, whites and sugars, folding carefully. When fully combined, throw it out and enjoy the cognac and rum. π

confectioners sugar or powdered sugar. that white stuff in a box.

DeleteOver here, the finest (and sweetest) ground variety is called icing sugar, and the one that is between powder and granulated is called caster sugar. Mind you, in the UK we also use actual measures (ounces/pints or grammes/litres) rather than "cups", so recipes can be quite difficult to interpret... Jx

DeleteI tried this one time when you posted the recipe before....and have made it ever since. One of the best egg nogs I tried. Light, and fluffy, not thick like the store bought shit. And it had kick.

ReplyDeleteBy far, the best eggnong recipe out there. I have to admit that sometimes I do cheat and buy the eggnog, but I still use your liquor ratio. I remember you posting it a long time ago, and I made it... always a BIG hit at Christmas parties, even for those who think they don't like eggnog.
