Too Much Information

The last two days the Mistress received so much information I thought my little ole' pea brain might explode. And most of it was things I either didn't need to know or were things that didn't pertain to me in the slightest. It then occurred to me how much information comes in one day to us. And constantly. What if everybody just took a timeout? Now there's a concept. It isn't only too much information, but the pitch and tenor of the delivery that have us in a craziness. From cable shows, news, talk shows, micro-blogs, and web sites, life's background music has become a loud car alarm. Citizens become so overwhelmed with data that they can't tell what's important and eventually they become incapable of responding to what is. Our brains simply aren't wired to receive and process so much information in such a little time period. In fact, brain research shows that we do our best thinking when we're not engaged and focused, yet fewer of us have time for downtime. When the Mistress schedules a relaxation day at the spa, if I'm scheduling relaxation, is it still relaxing? I guess in some ways it is. Daydreaming, we used to call it. What happen to it? Ask a creative person where they got their best ideas and they'll say it just came to me. If your looking for the Eureka- Aha! moments you probably won't find them while following tweets, or checking Facebook to see who might be "friending" whom. I think ideas that save the world or major crisis in our lives present themselves in the shower or when were gardening, or taking long walks. What we need now isn't more, but less. Sometimes you just feel overwhelmed with all the different communication outlets for entertainment. Not sure what to do first. Maybe sometimes we should just turn off, tune out, and drop in to see a friend. What do ya think?

  1. I think this is a brazilliant post, because I totally agree.
I revel in the quiet moments, just relaxing and daydreaming.
Everyone could use a "time-out" now and again.
I had one fo those days yesterday while preparing for carlos' birthday: no blogging, no emailing, no phones, no computers, no TV....I don't text or Facebook or Twitter, so those were an easy give up.
It was a nice day just doing a few little things, and then having a lovely evening with the Mister.
    Loved the post!

  2. Going backwards is really hard! Try being away from your computer for a day or 2- you will feel SO out of touch!
I do like having choices- I always HATED watching the news on TV because you had to watch the sports (local TV sportscasters are alwys such DORKS!) to be able to see what the weather would be like. Now I can find out with a few keystrokes what the weather is like here, and where I'm going, and whether my flight will be on time!
It can be overwhelming at times but I think feeling out of touch would be worse!

  3. I totally agree. It gets to be way too much. I'm actually trying to avoid the news for a while. And I cancelled all my ocial networking but Facebook.

  4. I think it's a great idea. I told my hubs the other day, that I think he's "afraid" to be in our house alone, cuz he ALWAYS has to have the tv on and music blasting. Me? during the day, I like my quiet time. sometimes I have music or the tv, but most of the time, I like listenting to the furnace come on, my dogs snoring, the birds outside....

now I think I'll go outside in the cold and just sit!

    XOXOXOXOX

I feel the same way some days. If I don't need to know something and it doesn't affect me, I don't want to know!

  9. Miss G- I totally see where your coming from. I have felt that same way sometimes. You miss a couple of days and your like "What the hell is going on?" And when you miss blogging and come back to it it's like overload because it's days of reading, but enjoyable reading!

Everyone- I'm so glad I'm not the only one that felt like that. Glad you enjoyed the post.
