THE PUMPKIN PATCH

This was the first time I think since my out-of-town trip to New Hope, that I'm finally in the autumnal mood, although the garden still says summer. The flowers are still going strong here. The zinnia are now going nuts. But how, when the tempts are definitely a bit nip. Yesterday found me over at Oak Grove for some produce, apples to make an apple pie, my first apple cider of the season...three quarts, which was delish I might add, and pumpkins and gourds for the garden. Pumpkins and gourds for some odd reason always make me feel happy, and I have no idea why. I guess it just adds a fun seasonal touch to the outdoors, and the fact that I love Halloween. The place was packed...I got in and out as there were many kiddies enjoying the little activity stations outdoors, they could partake in. I found two huge pumpkins to crave closer to Hallows eve, and way too many smaller ones to place about that will last right through till Thanksgiving. One kid got rambunctious and knocked his father's cart into the back of me, bouncing off my ass, and apologized. His words- "I'm so sorry for my child running our cart into your cakes!" CAKES! The father was a young hipster and I have the feeling swung for my team. Did I just get hit on by a man with child?!?!?!? I smiled and said no problem, I'm sure we can find a way to deal with this.... all the while batting the eye lashes. Joking!!!! Or was I? I got way too many pumpkins and gourds.

I thought it best to go see the goats.
Even as chilly as it was, the evening called for mesquite rubbed pork chops and grilled squash and zucchini. Yes that happened, while Lilith salivated at the door.

  1. Oh, dear. She's cruising the pumpkin patch already! Pic #10 just about sums it all up, really - it's all about the butter-nuts... Jx

    1. Oh dear is right. I thought "Say, let's go back to your place and we busy the kid in the other room with some coloring books, while I show you my peter peter pumpkin eater.....

Meanwhile, I do make a mean butternut squash soup...with a dash of whiskey in it.

    1. Some do look rather suggestive right? I'm surprised a conservative didn't bitch and have them excommunicated.

We had a bit of a chill this weekend and Carlos celebrated by making Wassail, and I celebrated by making Wassail with Brandy!

  9. That's some pickup line that father gave you. He's probably trained the kid to "accidentally" bump into Cake that he's spotted with hopes of getting himself a slice.

Tundra Bunny here... Canadians have been known to fire up their BBQ grills at -20 F! Are you sure you don't have some Canadian DNA lurking in your ancestry somewhere?!

  12. Boy what great seasonal pictures! And if you think that is cold, wait till you come to P-town in November. That dinner looks great. I keep my grill out till at least the end of November.

  14. Looks like a great farmers market to go to. I bet if they have baked goods, they are excellent! And I hope your apple pie turned up good for you. I tend to go overboard with pumpkins and cabbages on this front porch, but this may be my last autumn in the big house so to speak.

    What a glorious post.

  19. Aren't they just fab!!! I grow squash every year. In years past I've grown the ones that forced you to the goats. They are called Tromboncino! Not so good for eating but certainly great to look at!
