Halloween is by far my favorite holiday of the year. Always has been, not just because I should have been a Halloween baby. Yes...I arrived early...the only time in my life. There is just something about the feeling of this time of year, and I always enjoyed the decorations, the horror movie binge watching, and all the seasonal delights that come with the season. But not the pumpkin flavored crap. Way overboard. Pumpkin pie is it for me. And while here in Cumberland County many homes are decked for Hallow's eve, nothing compares to that of New Hope, with what, it's haunted and colorful history would be hard to compete with it. Halloween is big business in New Hope, and you'd be hard pressed to find a house not decked out with at least some form of autumnal delights, even if just pumpkins and gourds. Here are some of the sights we saw from my last trip there two weeks ago.

HALLOWEEN TOWN
Even this block in Doylestown got into the spirit!!! But the big attraction every year and as is tradition on this blog is that of the home of Dolores Dragan in Lambertville. She goes out every year with her showing of Tim Burtonsque cast of characters, that she has created herself, of people around town and people she's known. Passerby come from far and wide to see it and has even gotten nation attention for her yard exhibit. She adds a new one every year. I think she is well over 40 different ones now.

I was born on all Saints just shy of Halloween. Wish it was a day earlier. Enjoy I sure do. It became, a a few years ago and I lost my eldest son to suicide so it was grim for quite a few years.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping in and I hope you enjoy your day coming up. Yes, I sometimes wish I didn't emerge until Halloween. So sorry to hear about your son. Yes, that could make for some grim times indeed. But you will always have your memories to wrap you in. I hope you have fond memories.
DeleteI remember you showing that lady's brilliant creations in a previous post - faboo! Jx
ReplyDeleteShe seems to get just better every year. Set up is becoming so elaborate and she now has to place the figures at several homes.
DeleteFantastic photos!! It's impossible to choose favorites - but they all capture the true intoxicating Halloween spirit.
ReplyDeleteI think so too Jon. Things like this keep the childhood memories alive and that fun yet slightly eerie feeling.
DeleteI have several friends that love Halloween! And they decorate their homes to the max! To the MAX! Those are great pictures. I love any holiday in which people decorate their homes...Christmas, Easter, Fourth of July!!
ReplyDeleteYou sound like me JM. I love the little decorations for each holiday too. Keeps things fun and memories alive.
DeleteTundra Bunny here... I've always loved Halloween too, especially since I was probably conceived on it, LOL! I especially like home/business displays that look as good in daylight as at night. Here it's all inflatable crap and flashing lights for the most part -- ugh. LUV the creativity of the plague doctor and Delores Dragan's displays with their Gorey-esque qualities!
ReplyDeleteWell, I was supposed to be bore on Halloween Tundra but arrived almost a week early!!! Must be why I like Halloween so much. I cannot stand those damn inflatables. When I see them, I want to go all John Waters Serial Mom, like Beverly Sutphin and stick them with pins so they won't inflate!!! But I have done numerous posts in past Octobers of Delores 's house. She used to be the art teacher at the local high school before retiring...and these creatures came out of a art project she used to do there. The detail is insane...and they are made mostly of branches and paper mache.
DeleteThe window full of masks is really creepy, while the witches' hats floating in air is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteDo you remember wearing those as kids and sweating in them??? I recall my nose and mouth getting wet between houses. I'd take them off.
DeleteWe will have to visit later in October next year to see these fabulous displays!
ReplyDeleteWouldn't that be a hoot! And if it's a Halloween we could do costumes!
DeleteI love it!!!! I always love seeing every year the home of the lady you know. That is truly amazing. I know you have done several posts of her this time of year. I had been to Salem once, and I don't think even they were decorated as much as your two river towns.
ReplyDeleteThat's on my bucket list Tim. I have always wanted to see Salem. I have been to Sleepy Hollow though a few times. That's a cool little town with some very interesting history. Dare say some chills at night.
DeleteDolores is becoming quite famous for her Halloween display. !
ReplyDeleteNice to know some things never change in New Hope. I miss it. I love seeing all this. It brings back Halloweens of our youth. Nice to see the towns embracing and having fun with the holiday. Hope you have been well Mistress.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh my Aunt Acid!!!! Where have you been girl? And yes I agree I definitely enjoyed the Nostalgia part of Halloween like every other holiday.
DeleteWOW they do go all out, don't they? I love all the witches' hats hanging. I think Halloween is right behind Thanksgiving for me with holidays. Seems to me once on YouTube I saw a video of Halloween night in New Hope, and it was insane with crowds.
ReplyDeleteVery fun!!!!! The homes there are so quaint. Love all the skeletons.
ReplyDeleteWe did New Hope and Lambertville yesterday. We had the best time there looking at the Halloween decorations and enjoying lots of drinks. We did see that house too. The people there to see it was crazy. Her work is so detailed. And at night it's even cooler. It was nice to see it in person finally.
ReplyDeleteSo fabulous! A lot of people go to major effort to create these wonderful tableaux!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting and gorgeous! Nothing anywhere near that around here! xoxo
ReplyDeleteI hear that a lot. I feel like the east coast and Northeast embrace holidays seasonally more
DeleteGreat Photo
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed all these pictures. My daughter and I will be going into New Hope upon my request in a couple weeks. I haven't been since Williams passing. I miss it. Love how the towns get into the spirit, no pun intended!!! And Dolores Dragans home is incredible as always. Although that first picture gave me the chills.
ReplyDeleteSo much creativity and work goes into these displays. And Dolores Dragan is incredible.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! I love it when people "deck the halls" for Halloween! I'm with you on the pumpkin flavored shit. I'm NOT a fan, beyond pumpkin pie, just like you.
ReplyDeleteAll we have around here is a American lady who puts a couple of miniature pumpkins at the end of her driveway - they go to rot rapidly. Too much rain!
ReplyDeleteSx
So what you're saying is they become mudkins?
DeleteI think I know where I am taking the BF next year at this time! He would love this. Thanks. Doylestown, you say?
ReplyDeleteYou can't go wrong in a lot of the towns there. New Hope. Doylestown. Lambertville. Lahaska. And they're all within only 10 to 8 minutes of each other.
DeleteThe Halloween feeling is up to 104% this year.
ReplyDeleteEven I am getting into it!
X0XO
To me Halloween is like the gays gay Christmas!!!!!
DeleteThese are gorgeous, just how I would want things to be. Around here we have cheap plastic trash and inflatable things. But I should not complain. Any decorations are better than none.
ReplyDeleteSo.... every time I see inflatable decorations I think of you and the word rubbish comes to mind.
DeleteAbsolutely wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI'm thrilled that there's still people out there who are getting into the spirit of things.
ReplyDeleteThese days you have to and make your own fun. Otherwise it would just be the same home drum everyday day and day out. These kinds of things make it fun for people.
DeleteWeird and wonderful; is the guy in the third pic meant to be a plague doctor, because he is wearing the type of mask plague doctors used when visiting their soon to be dead patients.
ReplyDeleteI believe so Helen. That particular picture was taken in Peddlers Village. During the pandemic they did a lot of scarecrows like that with those type of masks on to promote mask wearing.
DeleteHuntleyBiGuy:
ReplyDeleteThe extent to which some people go to decorate is astounding. I wonder which electric bill is higher, Halloween or Christmas. Though some will go all in on one over the other.
And new help I would venture to say Halloween electric bills are much higher.
DeleteThey're all Fabulous but those Vintage Halloween Masks all peeking out the Window blew me away, what a Collection and great way to Display them. I wish more people Decorated around these parts like they do where you live. I'm with you on the Pumpkin flavored crap, just Pumpkin Pie should be in Pumpkin Spice, but the Yuppies around here go for everything Pumpkin once the Season rolls around, so I presume they Sell a shitload of it? *LOL*
