This weekend found me in Philadelphia for the Pride Weekend festivities after a two-year absence because of the pandemic, and it felt nice to get out, and people were ready...and the weather couldn't have been more perfect.. it was packed. I think now more than ever it's important to show up at Prides to show they aren't dwindling, and we haven't gotten comfortable. We need to show up in numbers. It was great being with friends and the community. The little clandestine with my Honduras bartender was just a cherry on the cake! Yeah, I did. Pride is a celebration, and one of who we are. Pride isn't only a month; it should be our whole life. It is the lives lost to violence and ignorance, to hopelessness and lost to a lack of healthcare and fighting for equity. Pride is a remembrance of every person who has come before us so that we can be the diverse and gender fuck community we want to be and wear rainbows and dance in the streets. Pride is honoring the pain, lost, love and laughter. Pride is hope that the struggles and fights we continue to face will be alleviated for the LGBTQ, but we know it won't yet and we have new battles coming. And if you can research where your Pride merch money is going...for good, and for LGBTQ programs and charities, and not lining the pockets of big corporation. The only downside to the weekend was the news of yet another mass shooting, in Philly. How sad that this continues and doesn't have too. We were relived as we had planned to head to South Street but we opted for a place for dinner closer to my friends. Otherwise. Here's to us being US. Let the freak flags fly
Glad you had fun! And the Honduran bartender too!
ReplyDeleteWhat can I say, I went back to completing my collection of Men of the America's Debs.
DeleteHow much easier would it have been for me as a youngster if I could've just been Me all the time?
ReplyDeletePride is more important than ever - as the repugs attempt to take away everything gained over the past 40 years.
YES! I just posted a rant on my Instagram over MTG...who says we need to do away with Pride. You does that damn cunt think she is. There....I said it. Go back to growing peach tree dishes bitch.
DeleteHappy Pride! Glad you were able to attend the festivities. And a great comment about corporations getting involved for only profit reasons. I heard a report on the radio about that and it was an interesting perspective of what is the line between corporations getting involved for good reasons versus just for business reasons.
ReplyDeleteI believe it. Many of these big stores and national chains set up pride shops...yet the rest of the year they do very little for the community and only donate like a $1 from each piece of the merchandise sold. Big whoopie.
DeleteAnyone wearing heels like the ones in these photos deserves a heads-up - I'd be dead if I tried to walk in them. All power to minorities who have fought against oppression without resorting to force.
ReplyDeleteSome days I walk better in heels then in any other shoes!!! Yes I still wear them here and there, in case a special show pops up.
DeleteLove the Priscilla header! Happy PRIDE. Sad country.
ReplyDeleteOur Gay Pride march/parade is a month away, and somehow I doubt there'll be a lack of people attending - London gets crowds close to one million strong! But don't get me started on the old "corporates versus the people" debate - it's a bugbear of mine, and has been for many years. We can't even get on the damned thing without a wristband, and even then we'd need to wait for hours behind all the Virgin Media/KPMG/Disney/Microsoft/Tesco/Google (and so on...) floats!
ReplyDeleteWe'll still be there however, in our finery, showing our solidarity with those less fortunate than ourselves in countries where "Pride" is not an option! Jx
Me too gin blossom!!!! It drives me nuts. And some stupid queens go to these stores and think it's great that these retailers and other sell pride goods to "support" us. They need to do there research.
DeleteHappy Pride!
ReplyDeleteWe did Milwaukee this past weekend and I'm getting ready for Chicago Pride. You are right, now more than ever we need to take to the streets to show up and show them.
Love the mood board. That gentleman in the second photo could do me any time. And I love Leigh Bowery!!!!
And remember, people: only buy local!
XOXO
Juno Birch is going to be in Chicago on June 15th!!!!! Ill be seeing her this week in Philly I can't wait! With the News aside, Philly was great fun and had a blow up Pride and I was even a whore. Without trying.
DeleteOh, honey.
DeleteBeing a whore without trying is my goal in life!
XOXO
Bare-assed in heels. Yes, ma'am.
ReplyDeleteHappy Pride!
ReplyDeleteHappy Pride!!
ReplyDeleteLOVE this post Mistress!!!!! And your right on with the mech. I won't buy anything from a retailer. They rip us off and keep most of the profit. I only buy with gay owned.
ReplyDeleteVery, very nice.
ReplyDeleteHappy Pride Month!
ReplyDeleteAs we celebrate our progress toward equality for LGBTQ+ Americans, we must recommit to the hard work ahead. Love the post of different picture and gender bending.
Tundra Bunny here... Your freak flag is fabulous, dahling, and I like your new masthead too! I just saw "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" for the first time a few months ago on TCM. It's humour has certainly aged better than the first gay-themed French film I ever saw: "La Cage Aux Folles"!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Pride Month, Mistress Maddie!
Same to you Tundra. One of my favorite films. I was told I'd be Felica, but I feel more Bernadette. Hence why I must have liked her lines the best.
DeleteBernadette:
[to Shirley]" Now listen here, you mullet. Why don't you just light your tampon, and blow your box apart? Because it's the only bang you're ever gonna get, sweetheart! "
and this one...[to Bob] "Believe me, Bob, these days gentlemen are an endangered species. Unlike bloody drag queens who just keep breeding like rabbits."
For Pride month if you have friends who are part of the lgbtq+ community let them know that they are loved. And it certainly sounds as though you have started too.
ReplyDeleteGreat message and point and all true words. I always think of Pride for those of us now, but mostly those you came before us to get us here. The pictures say it, we must accept all of us if want to win.
ReplyDeleteLovely post today!!! I'm not gay and I love pride! Why that old woman above with the glasses could be me almost. And what is it with a guy in heels?!?!?!?
ReplyDeleteHuntleyBiGuy:
ReplyDeleteSo glad you had an awesome time. You deserve it. How fortunate you changed your plans and are safe. This madness has to stop.
Happy Pride Month, Mistress!
