It seems as soon as I appear to loose some weight, especially after the Lad has been here, some evil earthly delight is lurking around the corner to tempt me yet again. Never mind I met a friend in NYC last week and had my arm twisted badly, not to mention was drug, kicking and screaming to one of my favorite chocolatiers'. But I digress. No, today, I was minding my own business, most likely re-enacting a scene from Cruella for Lillith and Buster, when all a sudden the faint smell of sweetness whiffed by my nose. I knew what it was. I know that buttery smell. SANDTARTS!!! Yes, the Mother was baking her famous and legendary Sand tarts!!! You have no idea the mass hysteria these things cause when she bakes them. I mean the neighbors even called over as they smelled the scent coming from the kitchen window today. At Christmas she bakes around 10,000 of these cookies, and she get hounded several times... when is she making them, and when can the said person expect them. And her list gets longer each year. I have yet seen any sand tarts as thin as my mother's either. I'm talking paper thin. And enough butter to even keep quiet Paula Dean. She generally only makes them at Christmas but this year I suppose she though I need to gain weight. Does she not know I wear skinny jeans? Many will go into the shop with me tomorrow.
Just so you know, deary, I love sand tarts!
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of sand tarts.
ReplyDeleteAnne Marie went nuts for these!!!!! I'd mail you some, but they'd be crumbs upon arrival. I mailed my friend Kim some in Berkley once. Crumbs. But she said they were delish sprinkled on vanilla ice cream.
DeleteThanks for the generous thought, Mads. I love you so much :) These seem a little bit too delicate for my robust cookie tastes (sounds dirty don't it). My favorite will always be those scrumptious Mexican chocolate spice cookies. Muy delicioso!
DeleteWe need learn about Sand Tarts
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe
I can vouch for the mass hysteria. I remember when I met you at the store and when you'd bring them in, it's all I heard about!!!!!!! And they are delicious! They are like trying to eat just one potato chip.
ReplyDeleteThey look wonderful!
ReplyDeleteYum. Im sure you think of way to lose sugar.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of sand tarts either, but they do look and sound delish!
ReplyDeleteThey are addictive.
DeleteOMG!!!!! They look delish!!!! You're going to have the boys eating out of your hands!
ReplyDeleteAs if your milkshake isn't already enough.
GIMMIE!!!! I can still smell and taste those!!! When you brough them up to Ptown...I was rationing them down to make them last. They are so addictive.
ReplyDeleteOh fuck it, who needs to get into a speedo this summer?
ReplyDeleteThey look so good! I have my grandmother's recipe, they have very little in them surprisingly. I myself don't have the patience to make them, but miss them. Pennsylvania Dutch Sand tarts are addicting little cookies that I grew up eating every year at Christmas. I thought everyone’s family made sand tart cookies, and little did I know that it was a very regional cookie introduced by the Pennsylvania Dutch.
ReplyDeleteThe beauty of the sand tart cookie is how extremely thin and crisp it is, which makes it so addicting. You can never stop with just one or two. Your mother's look very thin.
Your right. A true sand tart is extremely thin...and yes to make these...one needs time.
DeleteBring on the cookies. Life is too short. Dig a little more or take a longer walk, have longer sex sessions!
ReplyDeleteThey look so yummy and how festive for the day of love. I have had these before, but not the real PA Dutch ones like your mothers. THEY ARE THIN! I would love to see your mother's recipe.
ReplyDeleteI will email it to you.
DeleteOh how lovely they look and so uniform too! I can smell the butter from here. Clever mother.xx
ReplyDeleteI'd send you some if I knew they'd arrive in one piece!
DeleteHappy Valentines! 💓💗💘💕💌
Ooh, do those sound good. I’ve never heard of sand tarts. I think I’ve had them and didn’t know what they were... still, couldn’t have been as good as Mother’s. The great thing about skinny jeans is that they stretch (don’t they?).
ReplyDeleteThey are so good. All that's in them is flour sugar butter eggs and a pinch of vanilla.
DeleteAnd yes. My skinny jeans appear to stretch in a couple places.
10,000 cookie sandtarts???!!!! My goodness, I can't imagine! Your mother ought to go on Bake Off.
ReplyDeleteSx
She's been told to sell these. She'd be rich!!! She makes them for a month starting in November.
DeleteMy those look wonderful. How do I get on the list?
ReplyDeleteYou might like that answer!
DeleteEnjoy!
