MOOD BOARD

The weekend was very nice weather wise...almost 90 on Saturday. I'm more than ready for the heat...bring on summer I say. The weekend brought about much color with flowers as I was busy in the mother's garden , and we celebrated my aunt and uncle's 68th wedding anniversary!!!! No small feat. They have had a rough year, but came out the other side. After three wars, two pandemics, landing on the moon, and space exploration, living in Alaska when it became a state, many periods of civil unrest, 3 moves, he becoming a physics professor, she a nurse, 6 kids, 8 grandchildren and 2 great grand kids...they have done it. And seen it. Since the last update, they both have been in the hospital again, and the uncle took a terrible fall just Friday over their little dog Sophie...luckily he is alright, just very bruised. Both are doing better then they have been. We finally met their new house care professional, Yvette and she is sooooo wonderful and they all hit it off. She does the laundry and stairs for them, house cleaning, runs errands for them or with them, but does the driving, and any other things that need to be done. She and my aunt are having a ball cooking and baking. Yvette told me she can't believe my aunt cooks and bake from scratch and with all fresh and natural ingredients. A dying art in a world of prepared and all appliance done. After much push back, they have and are hitting it off with her, allowing them to thrive in others areas. Nothing seems to keeps this family down, I swear. And we're all a bunch of colorful characters. Us and all her children were in for the weekend...to celebrate and enjoy our first real together since the pandemic hit. We had copious amounts of homemade lobster ravioli and vino! Seems the color is coming back slowly to life.

  2. Kudos to your aunt and uncle! Goddess, that's a life!
And hopefully your uncle will recover soon. Falls at that age can be really serious.
Love the mood board. I am also super ready for summer.
    Bring the sun!
    XOXO

  7. You can't go wrong with Carmen Miranda and marbles! Love all of the colors, cuz that's how I roll. I do love couplings that can stay coupled through the decades. A very cheery mood board, indeed. I don't really know what a mood board is, exactly, but I'll roll with it.

    2. Balder and I will be celebrating our 46th in August. We were babies. Were your aunt and uncle embryos or something? I just love their staying power and wish them more years to come.

    3. They met in their late teens. And stayed together till he came out of the service....and never looked back. And she would have had 9 kids too but miscarried three.

    4. Wow! Your mood board has put me in a particularly huggy frame of mind. Sending every one up in here massive, warm squishy hugs. Oh well. A dirty toilet waits for no man, so off I go! Now where did I put those gloves?

    5. I blame it on Jack Jones. But I will take hugs!

    6. Ms Agnes, call me irresponsible, but I adore Jack Jones! I have to pull out his greatest hits c.d. now that I'm in the mood. You can have as many hugs as you need, sweetheart.

  9. Now you know I loved all the accessorizing in this post! I love wearing me a bangle or 10. Congrats to your aunt and uncle. That is indeed an achievement. William and I hit 42 and I thought that was a long time.

  10. SO this is where all my loose marbles went? And how did you know I adored Carmen Miranda? One of the most colorful and beautiful woman to grace the silver screen. Just too cute your aunt and uncle have been together for 68 years....they deserve an award.

I love this colourful post. We all need colour in our lives, don't we.

It must be such a comfort to know your aunt and uncle have all the help they need. X

    1. It does. And of course the one day Yvette wasn't there was when my uncle took his fall. I couldnt believe his arm and legs markings. Thanks heaven he was alright. Yvette has been a god send and my aunt is EXTREMELY particular...so it's a win.

  13. Glad you enjoyed your family get together. A house care professional sounds a wonderful way to deal with the indignities of old age.

Fewer and fewer people seem to cook from "scratch". I can't stand the blandness of ready meals and I really like my own cooking - chicken pilaff tomorrow!

    1. I agree Helen. I am fortunate enough to have inherited my mother, aunt and grandmothers liking and enjoyment of cooking. Even living on my own I cook my dinner, and bake my own bread and baked goods from scratch, before buying frozen dinners or prepared foods. Unless I get real busy, then I will do some entrees from Traders Joes which are pretty organic and tasty... but only in a pinch.

    2. I agree with both you. Society has becoming too lazy with many things...no dressing up...all tees and sweats, too much impatience on things, everything is disposable, and everything meant for convenience, too much take out. Too me that's not enjoying life. When I cook, I know what's in it. When one dines with me, plan on a three hour dinner.

    3. Does one need to take a ticket and wait in the queue for one of your fab-sounding three hour dinners, dear Agnes? If so, I'm taking my place as we speak... Jx

  14. I love this mood board!!!!!!!!!!!! It's dark and dreary here, so this is much needed.

Now how's about MORE Jack Jones! I loved that song from yesterday's post. You got me in a Jack Jones mood now.

  16. I love feel good stories like this where families get together and share their love. I'm sitting here with a huge smile on my face imagining the fun/festivities and food/drink and song/dance. Everyone should have a gathering like that, but unfortunately, not everyone has families and relatives like yours so next time, darling we all expect an invitation! lol

  17. I wanna live in your world, boo. No, seriously. When can I move into your head? I think it must be 24/7 heaven in there. Thanks for sharing this... made my afternoon. Kizzes.

  19. Colour, indeed! But 90f?! Today it only got to 56F in London! Please send us a bit of Spring weather, before it's too late - Midsummer's Day is only four weeks away... Jx

PS glad to hear your aunt and uncle are in safe hands. Their marriage is as old as Cyndi Lauper, Pierce Brosnan, Chaka Khan, John Malkovich, Kim Basinger, Michael Bolton, Pat Benatar, Alexander O'Neal, Midge Ure, Victoria Wood, Tony Blair, Mike Oldfield, Tracy Scoggins, Janice Dickinson, and - erm - Hulk Hogan.

    1. I'll have to relay this message of how old they are...and of course, they won't know who any of them are with exception to Tony Blair, Chaka Khan and John Malkovich, possibly Cyndi Lauper. They are after all, sort of hip and "up" more then normal senior folk.

  22. Congratulations on your and aunt and uncle's long marriage, and I do hope your uncle has a speedy recovery.

It's in black-and-white, but you should see Jerry Lewis imitate Carmen Miranda in Scared Stiff. And the real Carmen is in the movie, too!

Thank you for the colour. The sun has finally arrived in the UK, but as Jon says it's been flipping grim in the UK until today.
