It's been a weekend in the garden tending to the roses at the ancestral home. Yesterday it took most of the day to just water, feed, and dead head the roses at the Mothers' house. I think she has upwards of 32 different roses bushes now, some very fragrant, and then the knock outs, which are beautiful, but have no scent, and she has a few tea rose bushes too. The roses are insane this spring so far. Needless to say, we have yet even plant in the annuals, which are being delivered tomorrow, which will mean another few days of planting in the garden, and her window boxes on the one side of her garage. Perhaps I should make bouquets for the men to send home to their wives and lovers?
Such cr a beautiful assortment. So glad you’re able to help your mother.
ReplyDeleteLove all the flowers. Love the pictures ;-) A chilled bottle of Rose' sounds heavenly on a warm night.
ReplyDeleteOh Mistress...Jack Jones singing that song is one of my favorites!
ReplyDeleteSuch gorgeous garden your mother has ... I can almost smell the roses. At one time, I had upwards of 68 rose bushes...so I know how much work it take to keep roses happy. Those bush are brimming with buds! I even like the unruly look of those house planets on the sun porch.
One of my favorite too Agnes. He was soooo handsome.
DeleteThose roses are beautiful!! So many! The yellow rose id stunning.
ReplyDeleteAnd is that a glass bee in the one picture?
Yes, there are actually three bees. I got them from a glassblower in Lambertville for my mother a couple years back.
DeleteBeautiful roses... and I'm SURE that the photos don't do them justice!
ReplyDeleteActually I wasn't happy with most of these pictures.
DeleteHard to go wrong with a little Bacharach and David. What a hoot. And ALL THOSE ROSES. Well, I can't think of anyone more deserving, darling. It's like all the stars in the heavens want to sweep YOU off your feet. I, too, spent the weekend gardening... and I got a lot done... but then YOU garden and I just move dirt around, dig holes and stick stuff in them. Kizzes.
ReplyDeleteLuckily he has two guys to do the lawn and bush trimming, so it allows for the attention to the other things. Once my father passed she got rid of the mowing equipment. The shed has becoming a potting shed of sorts now.
DeleteA gorgeous rose garden and a real labour of love to help your Mom with it. Too bad Smell-O-Vision was never perfected -- I'd love to sniff that sunset rose!
ReplyDeleteOur rose bushes are also blooming like crazy.
ReplyDeletePictures are beautiful.
xoxo :-)
Oh, I do love all those flowers! And your mother certainly has a lot of them. Must be nice to fill some vases with them?
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteWoahawoah...Gorgeous!!!! I can imagine how intensely beautiful it must smell and look in person. I do adore that photos, I really like these...I love quick, not planned photography that are pleasant surprises.
ReplyDeleteI love roses. They are so sweetly old-fashioned and romantic. I tried growing them once, but they didn't do well :( Perhaps I'll try again...
ReplyDeleteWhat a chic old song too.
How absolutely beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI never used to like roses but in the last five years I've bought 12,some climbers and some standards. They are no where near out yet. It's been far too cold.
Your mom is lucky to have such a talented, caring son.
I bet they are lovely! I have seen your garden you forget. It's always a treat seeing it Christina. Climbers are pretty neat.
DeleteThe roses are beautiful but I'm getting dizzy thinking about taking care of anything all day long. Maybe it's just me and all of the work I had to do on Saturday to make sure my new place was habitable?
ReplyDeleteHow exciting!!!! You should email me your new deets when you get a chance.
Deletethat elephant display stand! the roses! your mom's house is a showplace! and duchess deedles will squeeeee with delight cause jack jones...
ReplyDeletePlease, I squealed with delight over Jack Jones.
DeleteYou now need a scratch and sniff feature.
ReplyDeleteGloriosity! (to quote Little Orphan Annie, I think). I love the lushness of the plants on the sun porch. Toses require so much tender loving care to look that happy.
ReplyDeleteAnd my mother hardly does anything with them! I don't even know how they are still alive.
DeleteRoses are such a joy - there's a stunning rose garden in the middle of Regent's Park here in London, and we must plan a visit some time soon. With all the rain we're having at the moment, they should put on quite a show...
ReplyDeleteJx
PS That song would never get written nowadays. Such terrible, sexist lyrics. Shame - it's a fab tune, and Jack Jones' voice is divine.
I have never seen the roses going nuts like they have this year. It's been insane.
DeleteI adore that song too. His voice so smooth. A shame what we can't do these days. Everything is taken so seriously and over thought and sensitive.
lucky you and your mum with such garden!
ReplyDeleteRoses that smell like roses. Hmmmmm!
