SPILLED TEA- ROASTED

I just knew this Nice Girls Roast was going to be  as smooth as the flight from Airport 1975, and I felt like Mrs Devaney, I felt a little queasy. The attitude I guess. I had a bourbon ..with a beer chaser to get through the show. Sorry, but I think this episode was absolutely hilarious but for all the wrong reasons, much like Mimi Imfurst's make-up. The Drag Race roast, like most seasons usually goes over like a fart in church, and tend to be disaster. I'd say the anxiety it produces is roughly on par  to when  Darienne Lake takes off her girdle and most around her hoping they aren't injured with a flying roll. The drag roast combines just about everything Ru looks for in a queen: big personality, cutting wit, and the ability to roll with the punches and react to an audience, and hit your mark. There should be no question as to who's got the chops. Thats acting talent to you Kandy, not the ones you eat.

To further un-nerve the queens, there was no in-studio audience beyond the judges and the three former Miss Congenialities, Nina West...heyyyyy Nina...Valentina and Heid N Closet, who showed up to be the targets of the season. Watching Heidi's facial expressions for me was even funnier than the roast itself! But the queens themselves didn't even target many of the jokes to them, unless it was editing. So my picks this week for the best in show.
Like it or not, Kandy did kill this challenge. This culminates in Kandy's first,  and I suspect her only win, and it was richly deserved. She even looked the part of a rough and tumble wise cracking New Jersey comic...which sleazy is in her wheelhouse. But having seen her in Brooklyn, I knew Kandy has the ability to kill on a mic. In this group, personality alone is plenty to launch her into the top, and she had plenty of jokes which all landed and had most, including her other dragtestants in stiches. In my opinion, she's better than the fans thinks she is, but not as good as RuPaul seems to think she is. So I say let her have the win. If Kandy doesn't do well this week, and goes against Olivia...I think we will know that outcome. I think the top four is already a done deal.
Gottmik brought me a chic looking Joker with less make up. I was very surprised she did as well as she did.  A fashion queen who can win Snatch Game and do a roast??? Gottmik may not have won, but she certainly did bring it overall. But this time around, she nailed the jokes and looked really chic to boot.

Of course...I think I knew Olivia, Symone and Utica would struggle. Watching those three, I would have rather had a root canal. I think it's safe to say Olivia will be heading out next. The last couple weeks, I'm just not feeling her. At this point she really is just a two note act. She managed to land one real good wise crack. Someone need to give girlfriend a handbook and crash course hunty in mean girl! But let's be honest....Utica delivers a veritable Hindenburg crash of a performance, taking out half the studio. The problem with Utica's performance is she is a art queen on Drag Race which is fine, but they tend to be very stubborn about it, and won't step out of the box. And she has the unique look. What's the difference between Utica and E.T? Their both monsters that have ridiculous cheek bones, but E.T can act and take direction!!! I adore Utica. But I think us and she, was ready for her exit.

Symone's a top queen no doubt. Although she bombed again in this challenge, it wasn't as painful to watch as Olivia and Utica...which surprised me they both weren't in the bottom. But Symone did come undone a bit, with too much dead air. But she is still charming the judges. And I LOVED her gold look.
Didn't hate Rose', she was pretty funny and confident. A little roast isn't nearly enough to spook a queen used to riding the C train in full drag at 4am. Rose's has the same comfort in front of a crowd as Kandy, but got edged out in the joke department by Kandy and Gottmik. Loni's critique is on point. Rose' did seem better in rehearsal. This Florence D Lee look was unique, but not one of my favorites on Rose' I wouldn't be surprised if Rose' wins one or two more challenges yet. her consistency is a force to be reckoned with.

When it comes to the bottom two, it's Utica and Symone, and I thought the lip synch was actually pretty good! Utica is definitely in her euphoria when performing and isn't that what drag is all about? I felt she got a bit shortchanged, she was working that stage and that body in crazy sways.... but as always, one queen seems to be suited for the song more then the other. Not that it mattered. Her stubbornness and her somewhat nastiness were ultimately what doomed Utica, not her envelop-pushing freak flag- flying...which for the most part the judges loved.

Now, in my opinion Utica had by far the best runways looks of the season- hands down, week after week. And she sold them!

Now in honor of this fabulous queen....here's Goldfrapp with Number 1 !

Next week, there will mostly likely not be spilled tea, as I'll be busy with things at the ancestral home while visiting...but brace yourself kids....Kandy will be top four. I bet my balls on it. Well, let's not go nuts. If Kandy makes top four Sixpense will give everyone French lessons.

  1. Oh, thank you for the Goldfrapp, dear one. This album! I was in heaven. It helps take a bit of the sting re: Utica's final tumble. But it was expected. Favorite look: her island of misfit toys look. Stunning. Least fave: Whatever that beast thing was. She looked like a hair clog from the bottom of a group shower drain. Thanks for your recap. Have a lovely time at your mother's. She's so lucky to have you. Kizzes.

  2. The episode started off with Utica pissing me off thinking herself a Lip Sync Assassin because of sending Tina home ... something I still can't wrap my mind around since Utica barely moved and Tina Burner turned it out. THEN, after that awful roast performance, Utica left the show STILL thinking she did well and may have a career in roasts. Other than that, it was painful to watch some of the performances. I actually ended up with a headache. BTW .. what was that hand gesture, not the finger, but the other hand gesture blurred out on the screen that Rue gave Utica?

    1. I had the feeling Tina was burnt. I actually liked Utica better with her style and the song. Utica is very calculated in her movements when on stage. Move like liquid. But this week wasn't Symone's strongest lip synch. It was a close one this week. I still think Symone and Gottmik with be the top 2. If Utica had listened to the judges more and delivered a hot roast...Symone may have been sent home last week.

  3. "Darienne Lake takes off her gridle"

That is one excellent typo. Freud might have fun with it!

AND . . .just read a tweet earlier about Ru & Bianca & the show! Holy shit!

    1. Well im sure Darienne has several gridles!!!!!!!

    2. Well, I think I need to retract what I wrote. I guess it was just an April Fool's Day prank done by Bianca.
And I was dumb enough to believe it!

    3. I was just going to type that. Bianca is a huge jokester on April Fools Day!

  4. There's all levels of humor. GotMik's were a much more sophisticated humour than Kandy. Kandy had lots of energy and confidence which helped her basic jokes land perhaps better than they were worthy of.

I thought it was summed up perfectly when Michelle said "Our Kandy..." They don't refer to many queens as "our" Something smells in Denmark.

  5. Oh lawdy please get rid of Kandy. I.Loathe.Her.
And Utica? Did you really think you were funny? Cuz you weren't. But Olivia was painful to watch, as was Symone.
But again .... please get rid of Kandy. I.Loathe.Her.

    1. I will bet you...Kandy is gonna be top 4! And if Ru disregards actual talent for ratings, she could ditch Rose' if the final four on the finale... then make it Symone Candy and Gottmik.

It could boil down to Gottmik and Symone....as the winner...but I think Gottmik will be crowned, but I not sure if for the right reason, or for political correctness.

    2. I'd prefer Symone, but I like Gottmik, as well. I find Rose too rigid and trying to be perfect, and I cannot listen to Kandy speak. I love a good F-bomb and a good "Bitch", but she goes so far ... I ... I ... I can't!!!!

  6. Im by no means a fan of Kandy's but I admit I was laughing constantly through Kandy's set, can't say the same for anyone else.

  7. "What's the difference between Utica and E.T? Their both monsters that have ridiculous cheek bones, but E.T can act and take direction" LOL.LOL.LOL.LOL.!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your shade!!!!!

As for Utica...her challenges were all cringe hall of fame. But she brought it to the runway now.

  8. Take this with a grain of salt considering the way the lip sync was edited, but I honestly felt like Utica did the better job (in the lip sync, obviously not the roast itself). However, I would've been livid if she'd stayed over Symone, so hooray for rigga morris, I guess!

    1. After she basically ignored Michelle and Loni's critiques, she could have wiped the floor with Symone and she probably still would have gone home.Well as we know, Ru only has so much patience for contestants who don't listen.

  9. It really was a week for delusion: Olivia thinking she actually good at that when it just showed up her limitations, Utica still insisting that she got some funny lines in while acknowledging that she bombed. Self-reflection is not some of these girls' strong point.

Each episode seems to sink worst. There is something way off this season, with the show, and the talent.

    1. Your right. Just for one more season, why not bring in talented girls even less well known in from others cities, other then the same five or six cities and let's see how they do??? Im already hearing from the grapevine the next is already heavy with more then half the cast from NYC, LA, Las Vegas and Chicago....again. And at least 5-6 are NYC alone.

But if rumors are true on four I hear may be on...I'm excited by that.

  10. Oh, you bet your sweet buns I will, if that bitch stays.
Kandy did not kill it. The bar is so low for her that making people cuckle is considered a win? And honey, she does need to e-nun-cia-te. With her $30 dress from the Dress Barn and her imitation human hair wig, she was not bad. A win? They're setting up that top four and I will let them have it. At least she cinched?
I agree that the total surprise was Gottmik. And it was a pleasant one! I think Rosé nailed it and she was the only one with no cards: professional. Take that, Kandy!
Now, Utica. I absolutely agree with you: her nastiness and her refusal to listen doomed her. I disagree with the commenter that said her lip-sync was better than Symone's though. Symone did better because Utica was still channeling Maleficent. Her runway look I loved, as I did throughout the season. I agree with you again: her runway was always fantastic. Kooky, but awesome.
As for the top four, I hope Kandy is not there but she's got us talking. People say that this season is bad (they say that every season) but alas, here we are, talking about it. Ru knows what she's doing it. We're gonna hate-watch that finale to finally have katharsis and watch Kandy shashay away. Better late than never.

    You're awesome.

    XOXO

    1. Dress Barn? I don't think she even payed that much! The thing is with her look, if she had that "rough side, but kept her image with her high hair and mint green promo look...I think that would be a huge improvement. With her size...she needs waayyyyyy bigger hair. That's why I think this season is fixed to a point. Michelle told Tina twice to wear bigger hair, but not Kandy??? Let's face, her promo look was her best of the season, and it wasn't even of the show!!!!

This is hands down my least favorite season. I know many who watched, but have given up, even queens. Pearly is right something is way off this season. Just my opinion the crop was not as talented as past seasons. I don't know what it is. And I still think Kandy makes top four. But if Ru shocks all.. and names her winner, I may be done with show. But that would be show suicide if you ask me. But I still think Gottmik or Symone will win...most likely Gottmik.

  11. My heart bleeds for Utica. In every backstage encounter, the other queens were constantly putting out the "you can't sit at this table" vibe. She tried so hard to be one of the gang, and they weren't having it, or her. She WAS off-putting, but mesmerizing too. She's an artist, not of this world. I love her.

  12. It's upsetting that they're clearly giving Kandy this cleanup edit on her way to a final victory, because she came onto the show as a really negative, ugly & divisive character, and it seems like they're intent on having her seem like she's learned from the errors of her ways. I wouldn't believe if they gave the damn crown to her!!! After the poor decision I've seen this season. But you can easily glean from her snipe-y comments during Untucked and at the top of each episode that she loves to critique and shade her fellow cast members, but can't take the heat when they do the same.

RPDR used to be a really fun, joyful watch that celebrated the artistry of drag as well as the inspirational stories of the contestants, but now, it's starting to turn into a pretty dismal. Much like project runway...it's been on too long. How many fucking seasons of a reality show do you need to see after all? 3 to 4 of one show is enough seasons.

    1. Not even so much that Cleo. How about just taking a whole year off? Ru is sending the shows out on top of each other. Many people I know who love drag are just burned out by it. But the simple answer is then just don't watch. I am sitting out All Stars. I never really liked them as much anyhow. The only season I really watched in its entirety was season 5.
