Move over the Thunder From Down Under....and the US queens.... the Queens of Down Under have arrived!!! I have been waiting FOREVER for a season of Aussie queens since the early seasons of drag race, so when the international version started taking place...I was panting and trembling with excitement. And Ru does not disappoint with this front runner queen lineup. These queens will embody the flash, gaudiness, brawniness, snark and smart mouth of true drag style..... and I'm here for this!!! The inaugural cast of Down Under comprises 10 of the most loose and talented queens...many who have I seen or featured on this here blog. The show is hosted by RuPaul, Michelle Visage and comedian Rhys Nicholson. Drag Race Down Under premieres on WOW Presents Plus on May 1! I'm already getting moist. Let's take a gander at these bitches....
Anita is the co- owner and resident queen of her own club at Auckland's famous, Caluzzi Cabaret, and host of the TVNZ show House of Drag, as well as the monthly comedy Drag Wars. She has been wiggling her form of drag for ten years.
I have been waiting for this bitch to get on the show in some form since the second season!!!!! Art will make top four for sure, and she is my choice to take the crown. Art Simone is the current reigning "Queen of Australia" and has played roles in feature films there. She has traveled the states extensively, and she is on my top ten drag queen list of best drag queens. This bitch can turn a look...any look, and I dare say is the best beater of a face than any other queens. Her Instagram leaves me jaw dropped like 90% of the time. Truly inspiring.
Coco has performed on Australia's Mardi Gras party mainstage many times and is a multi Diva award winner, and Entertainer of the Year. She was mostly recently voted Sydney's Favorite Showgirl in 2018. Coco has also worked with Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley, and preformed with Conchita Wurst along with Sandra Sully for charity shows.
Elektra is the Dancing Queen..and was runner up on season 2 of House of Drag. The NZ Herald describes her as "utterly charismatic" Her amazing dance ability and live vocals...and she takes after the dear Mistress, with shocking high kicks...puts her in high demand for corporate events and theatre performance around Aotearoa.
Etcetera is a striking non-binary drag artist, who at only 22 has already made a splash within the Australian drag community...no easy feat, with her aesthetic and activism. Known as the "glamour bug" she runs the shows at one of Sydney's iconic establishment, The Imperial Erskineville.
In 2015 Jojo started her drag career as a political response to a council member stating that homosexuality is not part of the indigenous culture. So for Jojo's first annual Pride March she walked the parade in a costume she made with both the indigenous and gay pride flags and hasn't looked back since....staying very political. She also was hostess with the mostess for the VIP party for Cher's Australian tour. One queen working for another.
This bitch is crazy!!!!! Take Varla Jean and Jackie Beat with a pinch of Tina Burner and blend, shake, and stir and you get Karen From Finance, another of the most renowned drag artist in Australia. Karen was one of the original members of the award- wining cult queer cabaret YUMMY, and has built an international fan base, touring the world with her singular brand of office themed drag character. She is one of the funniest queens on this season. I caught her act at Drag Con NY....and was in stiches.
Kita started drag when he dressed up for a New Years Eve Party and wowed all his friends. Before long he founded himself in the thick of the nightlife, firmly making his mark on the Auckland scene. Kita now co-owns the iconic Caluzzi Cabaret with Anita Wigl'it, and Phoenix Venue in Auckland and has since hosted two series of the TVNZ's House of Drag as well as maintaining her position as resident Drag Queen at Family Bar and Club.
Maxi Shield is the Anne Marie of Drag! She is the Lady Bunny of the Down Under scene...foul mouthed, dirty, witty and full of titty! There is no holding back or filtering this queen. Maxi is a drag artist of 23 years, and is noted for her work within the community for charities and children's reading hours. Maxi has also won Entertainer of the Year numerous times, most recent in 2015, was named Madonna's national Hostess for her Aussie Rebel Heart Tour and has closed both a straight Olympics in 2000 and will open a gay one ,Gay Games in 2022.
Scarlet is a burlesque performer, pole dancer, make up artist, costume designer and self -proclaimed "party girl". He has worked tirelessly to build his reputation and brand as a drag artist. After only one year of doing drag, Scarlet won the prestigious title of Queen of the Imperial Court of Australia , and took the title for Miss Burlesque Australia 2018, not only the first drag queen to enter the said competition ...but went on and won the tile too!
And can we just discuss amongst us goilfriends, just how hot and adorable these queens are?!?!
Clockwise, Scarlet Adams, Art Simone, Elektra Shock and Jojo Zaho!
Nothing like a five way!
10 fierce TO BE SURE! This just may be the most entertaining season yet. I would be worth watching just for Art, Maxi, Karen and Jojo alone.
ReplyDeleteI have already been told in no uncertain terms by the boy, we are watching this.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes....you'd could peel me off Scarlet Adams.
We like you 'moist' dahling. So happy for you. Look forward to your future updates. These queens are all quite amazing. I LOVE Karen From Finance. What a stitch. Thanks for sharing. How exciting. Kizzes.
ReplyDeleteCan't waaaaait! It's bound to be as entertaining as UK drag race and not like the last few seasons of US... they've been a bit on the slow, subdue side
ReplyDeleteThis looks EXCELLENT! Hate to say, Art Simone is a beauty and talent, and looks like she's gonna make this her competition. I'm still rooting for Karen From Finance! But all these queens look fierce.
ReplyDeleteIm so HERE for this season. Just got Wow Presents Plus today just for this.
ReplyDeleteThis current season's most exciting show was the Re-United. How sad is that.
Sad....but so true! The Reunited seemed way more entertaining and like a drag show. I can't believe it is STILL not over.
DeleteOH, this is going to be EPIC! Too bad is on WOW plus and I absolutely refuse to have one more streaming service!
ReplyDeleteI love that all these Queens are cabaret Queens! You need to be quick on your feet and mouth to be up there. Love it. Also love that many sing live. Fantastic!
I've heard of Karen from Finance. And could I have Jojo Zaho for a Kiki?
Can't wait for your reviews!!!
XOXO
I am very excited by this season. I love that the Aussie Queens use molded plastic wigs....kind of cool🤩🤩. I haven't been this excited for a season since I heard Bianca Del Rio would be on season 6.
ReplyDeleteFor me, Etcetera Etcetera is the best drag name ever!
ReplyDeleteI don’t care WHAT happens. It will be entertaining because of their accents and turn of phrase on that alone! LOL!
ReplyDeleteI am extremely intrigued by Anita Wigl'it. Also Coco Jumbo is stuuuuuning.
ReplyDeleteAnita looks too much like NY queen and legend, Marti Gould Cummings. I can't wait for this!
ReplyDeleteOh my GOD!!!!! IT’S KAREN FROM FINANCE?!?!? That name is cracking me up.
ReplyDeleteNow if Dr Biden had worn a skirt like JoJo Zaho's I could have understood the furore. In the meantime I have to put my money on Karen from Finance - just love the name.
ReplyDeletethe original male version of these queers is very beautiful indeed.
ReplyDeleteI really want to watch this....really bad. but Im so burned out of just watching two seasons. But I'll watch this over All Star's 6.
ReplyDeleteKaren from Finance! OMG. I love her!!!
ReplyDeleteFabulous and hot!
ReplyDeleteYAY!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteY'all don't understand how legendary Art Simone is and it shows. She's winning, mark my words.
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be AMAZING!! Especially since the latest US show was a major snooze.
ReplyDeleteThere seems to a be a lot of camp queens, not that fishy shit, and I'm living for that.
ReplyDeleteSome of the funniest Queen names on the show IN A LONG TIME!
ReplyDeleteI have already told me daughter to get me hooked up with Wow Presents Plus so I can see these versions. These gals look like a hoot.
ReplyDeleteI thought of you the other day while reading an article on how expensive drag shows cost the participants - sometimes tens of thousands of dollars for costumes etc. I hadn't thought of that.
ReplyDeleteAnother reason after 222 years I gave it up. Between that, work and other interests, it was time to move on.
