Just who is Lawrence Chaney?
Lawrence Chaney is already one of the frontrunners in the season 2 of RuPaul's Drag Race UK, and one of my favorite surprises of the season. Lawrence is a drag queen from Glasgow, Scotland, where yet again drag, is a break out.... and some over the top and out of the box drag style...and has made herstory as one of the first two Scot queens to join the race, along with another fierce bitch, Ellie Diamond. I'm so here for her high inspiration and creative high brow style. I mean, in her first week she wowed the judges with her inspiration of Glaswegian architect, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, not to mention her ode to the late great Diana Rigg as Emma Peal. He's been doing drag for only six short years, and yet another long line of queens to represent the plus size gals, which I'm here for also. I can't believe at this point and with all these versions, we have not had a large gal win yet???? But let her set precedent I say. Let this diva show what her big self can do. Bitch is fierce. She is here to show her inner and outer beauty and not in just another leotard with fringe on them. She is bringing the fashion, and just may be the most tailored big girl yet. His name is Lawrence out of drag, so he kept his real name, and Chaney, because he was inspired by the 1920's film star, Lon Chaney, as he was the man known for a thousand faces, and Lawrence is getting to be known as a queen of a thousand looks...whose brings his legendary impressions, stupid voices and general buffoonery. She's is the kind of gal I'd like to share the dressing room with. He also started doing drag at just 17 and has been performing since, having mastered his craft with the likes of Gaga and Ru herself for inspiration. Growing up in Helensburgh, he fell victim to extreme bullying, but turned their torment into triumph using it to prepare time for his future in drag. And he refuses to be labeled as any one type of queen and avoids putting himself into a box. Known for his make up skills, ability to entertain an audience and possessing that famous Glaswegiian sense of humor, he could be a triple threat. Is this the first big gal who could take the title??? I sure hope so. This season has been more surprising then any other.
She's a riot!
ReplyDeleteI have not seen every RPDR-UK episode but I do watch them tooting and booting the looks and the general reviews of their performances. She had a fantastic entrance and her last two-in-one look was super fun.
XOXO
I love big, full skirts--like the one Lady Gaga wore at the inauguration.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
I say COME ON THROUGH Lawrence!!!! I adore her. Worked with her once in the UK for a show. They are all amazing, but their is something I really enjoy about her. Brilliant and smart thinking when it comes to her style. but the UK race is so unpredictable compared to the US version.
ReplyDeleteAnd let's face it...Ru and the judges flubbed. Ginger Minj should have been crowned that season. Sure Violet is a fierce queen and has the UNT...but the C in charisma? Not so much.
I do like a big curvy girl!
ReplyDeleteInquiring minds want to know, is the rare one curvy?!?!?
DeleteThe boy and I caught this episode. And she ate it up!
ReplyDeleteWe do think it's time to have a big girl finally. What's the deal?
I have loved what I have seen of her. When she came out as Diana Rigg it was bloody iconic, and she had Rigg down to a t! She really is quite stunning.
ReplyDeleteLawrence is absolutely fantastic!!! I'm am so obesessed with him right now. And he often has me in tears with laughter.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant characters and costumes. That last look seems to be a combination of Mondrian and Crayola crayon.
ReplyDeleteOof! Thanks for the reminder - I still haven't started watching Drag Race UK even though I have seen the "Meet the Queens" intro. Lawrence was one of the Queens I liked from that introduction.
ReplyDeleteI have just watched the first episode - Yep, Lawrence is my favourite!
DeleteDoesn't surprise me handsome...he was mine too and Mister Joe Black, who for some reason was the first one gone????? I am still trying to figure that one out.
DeleteBING....You could be my RPDR UK correspondent!!!!!!!
in the first photo, in fact, the resemblance to Lady Gaga is impressive! Last photo: her skirt makes her look like a missile. Interesting!
ReplyDeleteLOL. It reminds ME of Adele.
DeleteSo purple & stylish, love it! 💜💜💜
ReplyDeleteWow, she is fabulous, I love the Emma Peel!
ReplyDeletePS Thanks for the Rhapsody in Blue birthday greeting. The first note put a smile on n my face; it reminds me of a sultry Nawlins morning.
I don't know nothing much about sultry Nawlins mornings, but I bet I'd be good at it.
DeleteXOXOXOXOX
The glam look comes off best. You're right - it is time for some plus girls to win.
ReplyDeleteOne of my friends Sheena is a fierce glamorous Glasgie gal, but even she isn't this fierce!
ReplyDeleteVery fabulous!
