The Eastern Redbud blew this week and it was spectacular!!! It was another day spent outdoors, mostly edging and cleaning the new outlines of the new garden perimeters. Of course, there was also a trip to the garden center near us Ashcombe, to get a few replacements and some add ins. But it was another week with the garden bringing new surprises.
The bleeding heart
The white dogwood is just gorgeous this spring.
This garden row will be mostly new items and transplants to full sun with the huge Eastern pine being gone. The dove is surveying the plan I believe.
The irises are blooming already!
Got 4 more Dartura Ballernias and three more Cassia since they did so well and gave quite the show last year. They won't go in the ground till the second week of May till we are out of frost warning. They go in the potting shed at night till then.
Even more new planting to be added in this week.
The peony garden is coming along great and picked up two more to fill in where old ones died off.
This dogwood is an old one and lived under the shadows of the huge Eastern Pine for years. I love the shape it takes. Sort of reminds me of a bonsai tree. I hope now that the pine tree and it's lower branches are gone, this dogwood will now grow and spread.
We also had family in town so, I had only so much time to toil in the garden yesterday. It was off to the Millworks in downtown Harrisburg for my uncles 92 birthday. It's become one of my favorite places to eat out at, and family always request eating there once while they are in town. Their food is delicious. good pilsners and ales not to mention make a great gin drink and the place also has shop spaces where local artist and artisans can sell their wares.
Some of our delicious apps...at least at our end of the table. artichoke dip, deviled eggs and fried green tomatoes.
I had my favorite dinner there, chicken puff pie...to die for. We also got to see some of the artist that were all over the place doing their art.
I also glad to see Millworks doing so well. The place as a cool vibe. It's never not busy which is a good thing, as many places in Harrisburg are not doing well further downtown. If anything, I feel downtown is going in the opposite direction it was years ago. Seems everything is leaving. But it has been a great weekend. Today...mostly chilling, with a nice gin later. I suspect this may be the week the lilacs will be open and will scent the whole house. Tootles.
Food looks delicious, and to see artists at work when you eat! What a great idea for a restaurant.
ReplyDeleteIt is pretty cool, and one can wander and enjoy the artist while waiting for their food. Some pretty cool shops.
DeleteThe Millworks sounds wonderful -- and your photos of the food look delicious! Flowering fruit trees, bleeding hearts and irises are my most favourite Spring florals! We're about a month away from having them bloom here in Edmonton.
ReplyDeleteThe owners did a great job with that place and the concept. The roof offers great vistas over the downtown area.
DeleteThe "Judas Tree" and those dogwoods are spectacular! Here, the cherries and camellias in our neighbourhood have handed over to the rowans (Mountain Ash), so the air is thick with scent, and in our garden, everything continues to grow before our eyes... I adore this season! Jx
ReplyDeleteIt's really proving to be a spectacular spring isn't it Jon. Every time you and Madame feature pictures, I can't believe the growth.
DeleteGorgeous flora as usual; our dogwoods bloomed earlier this month, but now Carlos' roses are blooming which is nice.
ReplyDeleteFood, cocktails, art and friends; sounds like a perfect evening.
It really was a wonderful weekend! My roses are getting very bushy but no blooms as of it.
DeleteIn the spring of life, just like you. And another place to visit on the next trip to PA.
ReplyDeleteThe Millworks is noisy, I can't lie, with its environ, but the drinks and food never disappoint.
DeleteI'm not going to ask what you pot in your shed.
ReplyDeleteI've been known to fill quite a few pot bottoms.
Deletewhat marvellous places!
ReplyDeleteThe neighbors have got to be jealous of that yard. I know I would be!
ReplyDeleteThe girl next door is always complimenting me on my flower additions. Of course I'm always complimenting her on her hot Greek husband.
DeleteThose pictures are wonderful, and now I think I'm gonna pop a Claritin to be safe.
ReplyDeleteI saw your comment over on Savannah's blog. If you're worried about gardening you should really try a potted Garden. It's where you to take a bunch of different size pots of different sizes put them in a grouping and put all your flavored flowers in them. It adds color and easy to maintain.
DeleteYour bearded iris are in bloom already? Mine are still in bud, although my white Dicentra spectabilis is in flower. I think my pink one pegged it over the winter - too much rain.
ReplyDeleteI have never seen the iris this early in bloom.
DeleteWow! Your Eastern Redbud really is SPECTACULAR!!!
ReplyDeleteLooks like it's going to be a bumper year for the Garden Photos Event!
Savvy is already ahead of the game.
DeleteStunning post!!! Your garden is really taking off now. I planted some iris when I moved in here and they are doing very well. I love the flowering trees...your pink Dogwood does look rather like a bonsai tree is shape.Your got a green thumb and Happy Birthday to your uncle. He is doing ganbusters! 92 is nothing to sneeze at. Is this your late aunts husband?
