ALL ARISE....

...the newest Crowned Queen, Nymphia Wind

With sunglasses stacked in her hair piled high, Nymphia Wind blew onto the stage and in the werkroom and made her debut as the first Taiwanese queen to be featured in the main show of RuPauls Drag Race, where her love of yellow and bananas, inspiration by K-pop girl groups, her schooling of fashion which lead to some of the most creative designs we saw on the runaway to date, and one that allowed Nymphia to shine as a new person and combine the different art forms that she loved, and one zany personality lead her straight to the win and the crown. Nymphia was also lucky enough to have very supportive parents that helped spur her towards cinching awards and doing drag full time, very unusual for that country where drag is not always welcomed.

  1. Congrats to her. It's nice to see acceptance spreading.
BTW, the dancer with the banana skirt sure looks like he's wearing a belt of yellow boners. LOL.

  2. Banana man's outfit is a rip-off from a Josephine Baker costume

  3. Love the sunglasses outfit! And what's up with that fire crotch?

  4. I really like Nymphia!
I think her moment talking in the Podcast was fantastic. Very vulnerable, very real.
Her fashion is fab, TBH. That number with the menswear she made from scratch? Stun.
And she can lip-sync! She did not do it once during the season and then BOOM! Tea during the reveal in the finale.
    Love her.

    XOXO

P.S. any tea on why the finale was not in a theater? I KNOW there's something going on...

    1. Your right Sixpense. The lipsynch tournament and the finale was filmed months ago, because they were worried the writers' strike would affect the show for some reason, even though those writers were not part of that union that striked. But there was also cost cutting measures and the finale two girls told me was actually filmed in the studio where they film the main stage and judging...They probably should have waited to unveil the eye-popping new main stage until the new season. The graphics almost sell the idea that the queens are performing on a grand stage instead of in the same studio they’ve spent all season. But every time the camera cut to the “crowd” of two dozen World of Wonder employees trying their best to look excited (accompanied by a sound effect indicating a roaring crowd of about three hundred times that many), I just cringed. It looked so low rent. I was confused till I heard all the behind the scenes info. It was made even odder by the choice to direct everyone as if they really were on a grand stage, so you had moments like the judges yelling out their “critiques” as if they were speaking across a huge expanse instead of sitting in the exact same spot where they made their critiques all season, or Ru calling out to members of the audience who were only sitting about three feet away from him. There was just too much fuckery trying to make this look like the grand live show it was in previous seasons. I am told it was all smoke and mirrors in the same studio, just with a redo. So I feel the queens this season sort of got cheated. And I DO NOT LIKE the changes to the format next season.

    2. Now, that explains the stage.
It was the same where they had the Rulapalooza extravaganza, right? I forgot about the problems last year with the Unions. The show is very 'immediate' for those of us that are not in the know. I did not mind the stage (I do like the feel of the theater, though...) and I think the Queens did a great job and with all that money, honey, all they need is a push. They'll be fine. They are all very good.
Remember Drag Race is just the first step for them to become superstars.

      XOXO

  6. I was happy. I did however think for a few minutes it might be another double crowning. The final showdown? I don't know I could have chosen who won. But Nymphia's bow tie and the ensemble was the singled handed most creative thing I saw all season this drag race. And you were right....we got performance art when she performed.

  7. I don't recall ever seeing a top two that tight!!!!!! I really liked them both very much...but was sure Sapphira was going to take it. They both give old school performance and drama that's for sure...i was happy with either winning...buy I felt sad for Sapphira not winning. I cant imagine the bum feeling one gets.

  8. I didn't think the finale was all that good. So I disagree about the finale being too good.I thought this was a very mediocre to bad season. It felt like too many queens who were not ready got on.. and Drag Race finally said, "fine, you can be on the show." No real legendary personalities apart from the top two. But glad one of those top two won! They could have renamed the season Nymphia and Sapphira's Race for the Crown!

    1. It's funny you mentioned that Carmen. I know nothing about drag and I wondered if most of them were ready to even be on the show. I like Plain Jane too, but she has a way yet to find her footing. I just didn't get what she was about.

  9. And she deserves it. Absolutely stunning. I especially love the different yellow looks.

  10. I was Team Sapphira and so I wasn't thrilled that Nymphia won, but when I look back at her drag, she is one stunning, fashion forward, think outside the box, totally bananas queen!

    1. I know what your saying. Having met Sapphira and seen her shows numerous times and being from Philly, I had to root for her and let's face it she is damn good...but I was also happy with Nymphia 's win too. From day one, I thought one of them had this locked up.

    Tundra Bunny here...

Nymphia Wind sure has a lot of exotic looks. Not crazy about her banana costume -- disrespectful mocking of Carmen Miranda, IMHO. I don't understand Nymphia's fiery crotch either: speaking as a cis woman, if your vajajay is on fire, it generally means you have an out-of-control STD!

    1. It's a hard balance to bring good drag and keep it fresh, especially when one has a trademark schtick....the yellow.... but she pulled it off. I didn't get the fire crotch thing either. I think Carmen Miranda might have approved of Nymphia's ensemble though. She was a favorite of mine. I actually did Carmen Miranda one year for Halloween and then a show. I made the head piece of fruit...it must have weight a few pounds...but it was great fun. Ill have to see if I have the pictures of that here, they might be in storage.

  12. I thought that Nymphia's banana gown was SPECTACULAR in that it was just so right in its proportions on her body. Simply put, she looked beautiful. Congrats Queen Nymphia!

You'll be seeing me soon Mistress...All Stars is coming.....

  14. Excellent photo essay for Nymphia! I was pleased as punch that either her or Sapphira would have won. Nymphia is pretty stunning.
