ORBANISM

I've long said we better hope the Great Orange Dope gets the nod for the Repukican nominee for President. For me for two reasons. Biden will for sure hand the Dump his head on a platter, as I would hope many have moved on from his bullshit and 2, a Biden DeSaintis fight will be even more hateful, and would Biden have the energy? Then there is the truth. DeSantis is far more evil, crazy and dangerous then the Dump will be if he gets in.  After my lovely trip to Budapest Hungary, a stunning and very enjoyable trip...and the people were downright welcoming and happy. It's it almost hard to believe they have a crazed dictator running the country. And I worry DeSantis is not following the GOP...but that of Viktor Orban. In June of last year, Hungary's far right government passed a law cracking down on LGBT rights, including a provision prohibiting instruction on LGBT topics in sex education sex classes. And then a banning of certain books, and any "subjective art" in school be removed. Sound familiar?

About nine months later, Florida Dipshit DeSantis signed the so-called "Don't Say Gay bill banning all classroom instruction by school personnel or third parties on sexual orientation or gender identify up through the third grade...and since then, up to 12 grades in a matter of months. The two bills are closely connected. A senior editor, Rod Dreher who is with the American Conservative magazine said he was told by a conservative reporter from a FL newspaper said DeSantis's press sectary even admitted they are watching Hungary very closely.
It's easy to see the connections, in both provisions and justifications. And this is not a one-off example. DeSantis, who has built a profile as a pugilistic culture warrior with his eyes on the presidency, has steadily put together a policy agenda with strong echoes of Orban's governing ethos. Most recently there was DeSantis's crackdown on Disney's special tax exemption; using regulatory powers to punish opposing political speech and views in one of Orban's signature moves. On issues ranging from higher education to social media and gerrymandering, DeSantis has followed a trail blazed by Orban, turning policy into a tool for targeting outgroups while entrenching his party's hold on power. Orban has recently emerged as an aspirational model for many on the Trump friendly right. During his presidency, many observers on both sides of the aisle compared Trump to Orban...but I disagree with that. Trump was not smart or competent or even disciplined enough to implement Orban style authoritarianism in America.

DeSantis's agenda in Florda is evidence that the Republican shift in the direction is continuing, maybe even accelerating. Look at all the havoc and gutting he's down alone already with the Don't say Gay Bill, and other trans related issues. What's next, Pride events will be outlawed??? What worries me is, is that DeSantis is smarter than the Dump. DeSantis is already showing how it could actually be implemented in practice. Look at how many other states already jumped on with similar bills. The consequences for democracy in Florida and America in general could be dire if he is elected.

Orban's political model has frequently employed a demagogic two step: stand up a feared or marginalized group as an enemy then use the supposed need to combat this groups influence to justify punitive policies that also happen to expand his regime's power and take the deflection off the real issues that need addressing. If DeSantis is in fact following and creating a blueprint for a "American Orbanism" that he and the Republicans across the country choose to follow, and I think it's already happening, look at the whole nonsense of the drag queen issue...the implication for American democracy could well be disastrous. I only wish I had more faith in the Republican voters to wake up.

It's a hideous situation, and all the more reason to fight our corner - and remind everyone what the whole Gay Pride "thang" is all about!

  2. While I find DeSantis more vile than Thing 45, he is also more of a loose cannon, and that turns off a lot of people.
Note that his popularity is waning in Florida.
Note that he has not said a word about the Nazis setting up camp outside of Disney who are also rabid DeSantis supporters. He may not be a Nazi, but the Nazis love him and that should terrify people.

    1. I think the full people of Florida better wake up soon. When you have a governor attacking your State's biggest Employment Agency that should tell you all you need to know right there. It would almost serve them right at Disney left Florida, then we were very economy and jobs be?

Excellent post. I have read another article that also said DeSantis is ignoring the GOP party and taking many pointers form Orban in Hungary. NOT GOOD. We lived in Florida for 17 years and moved back to NY to be closer to families. Enough was enough of the state and it's craziness. Our politicians here leave much to be desired on both sides, and as an independent voter I cannot vote in primaries. I will, however, register as a republican just to vote for anyone but trump or desantis (they don't deserve upper case). When it comes to certain policies and spending my very conservative, but social and moral issues very liberal.

    1. I am independent as well and get the point about registering as a Republican just to vote against either of those loathsome creatures. However being 49 years old and on occasion and much to my regret... I have voted for a republican now and then, but at my age just the thought of registering Republican is akin to the feeling I would have from falling into a tub of pig slop.

    2. You sound much like my mother, she's an independent in her head and her heart, but I finally made her register Democrat so she could vote in primaries. But she in the past has also gone either way with presidents in elections. It's been ages and ages since I've found a republican that I would vote for.

  4. Try as DeSantis might to suppress these communities, it’s pretty obvious they are not just going to go away, actually a bit of the opposite. It feels a lot better to live and let live, he should try it, and forget about using hate to become president while he’s at it. If voters think him taking tips and playbook moves from a dictator like Orban is good, then they deserve him and everything they get eventually.

    1. The Republican Party is only eventually going to cater to those white and wealthy Republicans. If you're a minority Republican get ready to get screwed I say. I never understood how somebody could be Mexican black or gay and support a Republican. Blows. My. Mind!

  5. I guess Ronnie fooled his voters. He never said he was going to discriminate women, LGBTQ folks, and minority when he ran for re-election last year. He NEVER mentioned he will be banning books, and art. He never mentioned he will be taking one on the biggest business in Florida, the one that gives the state it biggest revenue, and employs thousands of Floridians. What a fool, And they keep voting for him. Are they just dumb? I have no desire to ever visit that state again.

He never mentioned he will divide the state with rhetoric against the other side and use the word "woke" to incite and justify his vindictive policies. And yes, I too have read stories of his staff and admin watching Hungary and it's plays.

Be warned America he wants to be our president.

  6. When are republican voters going to wake up? If they don't think the Party will come for them eventually...they are seriously deluded.

  10. Let's face it...he HATES gays. When DeSantis forces a ban on minors attending drag shows, but allows children at nude beaches? Florida funds state parks including nude beaches where naked adults run around with naked kids. I don't mind nudity in the least...but kinda strange for a guy who claims to be so concerned about 'protecting kids.' And goddess helps us if he is following Orban

  11. DeSantis will get worse because he's desperate. I suspect he knows he's going to lose the nomination, but believes he's doing the prep work for a 2nd run after Biden wins the election.

    1. I think Trump will end up getting the nomination, much like mayor Pete, Ron DeSantis is much younger but I don't think enough of the country know much about him to get elected as president yet. At least in DeSantis case everyone knows he's an ass. And much like mayor Pete he may be priming up for a later run.

  12. I can only say that I have reached the age that I have pretty much lost all hope in pretty much anything getting better. Worse seems to have taken the lead and is just running with it. I dream of a world that will have an intellegent, compassionate, honest and yes younger Democrat as a candidate that can actually win the election. But, like I said, it is only a dream.

    2. I totally agree. And I think we need to start cutting off assistance to the Ukraine finally. I still cannot understand where all this money comes from when we have things here that money could be better use for. How can we fix other countries if we can't even take care of ourselves first?

    3. I was with you until that comment...

Let Putin loose on Europe, and a far worse catastrophe will hit the world than merely a wannabee-fascist taking on drag queens and Disney. Jx

    4. Now don't get me wrong Jon.... I'm all for passing money to the Ukraine but what I can't understand is if we needed the money for example to fix our infrastructure... all of a sudden they don't have the money. I think we can still float the money to them...I'm not sure why we're floating such a big sums...yet when our Congress needs the funding for other things..its "Oh...were out of money."

  14. Fantastic post.
Very on point and very of the moment. And you are right: Rethuglyclowns are taking a page off dictators all over the world to groom their candidates. You are also right that Meatball Ron is more dangerous than Jabba the Orange. The thing with Death Santis is that he has no charisma (uniqueness, nerve OR talent) and he always looks like he's trying to mimic what humans actually do. But he's dangerous.
I agree with Dave, though: he'll get more desperate because you know that Cheeto will run from prison...

Something about human trafficking charges, I believe.

Not to mention that UnSaintly thinks he's found a way around the controls placed on a US president to avoid the country turning into a tyranny. Take note of the devil's horns poking out of his greasy hairdo - DeSanctimonious is NOT a nice person.
