SCARLET & DEEDLES

I tell you, when I got into blogging years ago, I never knew or expected the connections one would make. Over the years I have met many, set up email conversations, and text some, maybe even a clandestine or two. I have some of the best blogging friends who touch me so...and not always in the way you're thinking! Months ago, I had won Ms  Scarlet's part of the Fricking Green Elf Shorts Competition. More on that coming up soon. But as the winner, she sent me some of her handiwork. You see, Ms. Scarlet is a very talented and accomplished Calligrapher. Is that a word? I have always thought her work was fun. Not only does she incorporate her calligraphy skills, into stationery and art, but uses multi- media material such as various papers, vintage pictures, maps, little quips, I don't know what all, but then makes a collage of it all. Well, when I received my letter from her, I was so amazed by it, I knew I wanted it out to be displayed. This week, I finally found some frames to keep them safe!!!

I hated to blur out the address, but you know the paparazzi can be relentless trying to find the new location of the Casa du Borghese. And I adore Scarlet even more because she was crazy enough to even included the Mistress Borghese in it!!!!

I don't know if Ms. Scarlet purposely found this map with Chalfont on it or it was complete coincidence, but when I recently moved from Bucks County, my fair hamlet I resided in was Chalfont, and was named so by William Penn, after his wife's town in England. Now this was so cool. I can't thank Ms. Scarlet enough for this lovely treasure and the time it took to create it. I tressure stuff like this. You should check out Ms.Scarlet here.

Then this week my ever-faithful friend the Duchess Deedles really tickled my funny bone. And boy...does she know her Mistress!!!! She fore warned me to be on the lookout for a housewarming gift. And did it warm my house.... and cockles.

Glass tumblers with recipes for hang- overa recipes, and Gin based cock-a-tails, with the recipes right on the side of the glasses. It may shock some to know, I had not owned these yet. Now I have more cock-a-tails to try!!!! They are so cool, and one will be broken in tonight when I do a salmon and corn on the cob on the grill.  But the bottom of the glasses really gave me a chuckle!!!!

Thats what style takes like?  Could Deedles be implying I have style by drinking gin? I knew someone around here had good taste! Deedles, you have no idea how they made my day on Monday. Bottoms up indeed!

A huge thank -you too you both for your thoughtfulness. I have the best of friends and readers. Even if they do try to swipe my houseboys.

  4. Oh, how I only wish I could do calligraphy like that. Love the little quip in there too.

They both know you! They both add into your quirky collections of things.

  5. Exquisite gifts from exquisite people! Your much like me. It the simple things and handmade that I enjoy the most. Heartfelt gifts.

And if Scarlet saw my penmanship, she'd fall over.

  6. The Chalfont connection is a very happy accident - this is something I love about collage - new meanings pop up all the time for different people!
I love the glasses! I’m sure I had a couple with cocktail recipes on them, and now I’m wondering what happened to them!
I’m pleased you liked your collage, and it’s lovely to see it framed along with the envelope, thank you!

    1. Of course, I had to frame something so personal...and the Chalfont on that map was quite something. Not to mention that great photo. Imagine when someone comes across that set once I'm dead and gone.

  8. Calligraphy, what a talent! I'm with Ms Agnes and the handwriting.
I'm so glad you liked the glasses, Mads. You I can find gifts for. Me, not so much. TMI ALERT! I bought a bunch of underwear guaranteed to cup one's cheeks and not ride up where the sun don't shine. They fit perfectly, once I turned them backwards that is! Sigh, foiled again by front butt. I now have proof that I'm built backwards.
By the way, those glasses are a bribe. I need a couple of houseboys to do a little dusting (okay, a lot) and to console me, not to laugh at me in my oh so comfortable backwards draws! Not naming names of who did that.

    3. Duchess you and your backwards bloomers made me not onlt spray my drink but also made me choke!!!!!!!! LMAO!!!!! You are crazy girl!!!!! But if the underwear fit, then who cares right? Backwards Drawers? You might want to consider making them and banking on that. I mint might be made.

    5. Yep, Empress, you've got a point. I suffer from noassatall, lackofhips, and massive juicy front butt. There is no help for this kind of suffering. None of the plus size underwear models (the actual plus size ones) have my shape. It is so nice to put on these things and have nothing hanging out the leg holes front or back. Life's simple pleasures.

Tundra Bunny here.... What lovely gifts from your friends who know you so well! I've always liked simplified Spencerian Script, although it requires a proper nib and lots of time for practice (like most things). And Gin was known in the 1920's as "panty remover" -- you and Miss Deedles make of that what you will, LOL!

  10. I most admire the blogger community, and for some of you not meeting, it's amazing the close connection you all share. I tried blogging once years ago, and just couldn't give it the time it needs. I'd rather read them. Some excellent talent of Scarlet and Deedles with the practical, yet fun. The hang over glass could be a savior for me some days.

Such unique gifts! I love when there is something very personal about the gift that shows how the person knows you. I received a gift from someone a while back and it was one of the nicest gifts ever because it was based on a throwaway comment I made about something I liked from my past. They remembered and based my gift on that. That meant so much to me.

So in case anyone wants to hear my next throwaway comment for any future gift to me, here it goes. Diamonds! LOL!

  16. WOW! That is so cool. I don't even have good handwriting let alone talent like Scarlet's calligraphy. And we can't wait to see hat libations get made in your glasses. I'm only surprised the hang over glass wasn't used yet?

  17. I have a piece of Scarlet's calligraphy, and like you, saved the envelope to frame as well! We've been enjoying our Pimm's Cups during the heat of the afternoon, followed by the occasional Gin & Tonic in the evening. It's just refreshing to have the right cocktail when it's so insanely hot outside! xoxo

  23. My best friend when I lived in Birmingham moved to the guaranteed original Chalfont St Giles, Buckinghamshire, with her family shortly before mine moved to Oxford. Chalfont St G is not that far away from beautiful downtown Oxfordshire.

It's been a day for memories; I've just been going through my Dad's books in order to hand most of them on to the next generation, bar the ones dedicated to me or my daughter. My nieces are also getting most of the family photos.

    1. It's funny because the next town over from me was Buckingham....named after Buckinghamshire! William Penn named most towns and hamlets in Buck County after towns in his native country of England.
