SEEN IN NEW HOPE

It's been a relaxing weekend after all the holiday festivities. I was to be in Harrisburg this weekend with the family, as we we're to gather for a memorial dinner and remembrance for my aunt, but early in the week, we got word that one son and his family caught Covid, as well as did my uncle and his son. Most likely my cousin got it from the school where he teaches music and passed it to my uncle. We worried immediately for my uncle, being so close to 90, but he himself is not showing any signs, even though he tested positive. My cousin on the other hand has a terrible cough and breathing issues. Between that and the weather we talked with the eldest son, and we thought it best to have the memorial closer to spring on what would be my aunt's birthday, which is what we wanted more anyhow. Their eldest son's wife is a doctor, so when in town once, she left us with about 15 rapid test to have on hand. Thank heavens myself and my mother tested negative. Besides, with the amount of gin I drink, good luck for any virus to penetrate me. The last one ended up in the Betty Ford. So yesterday I took a walk about in New Hope which is back to being incredibly quiet. And peaceful.

A walk along the canal and time spent at Lenape Valley Park.
Quite beautiful and peaceful.

Stopped in at Love Saves the Day, a favorite novelty shop. Came across these fun coloring books.
And how about this vintage Barbie?
A neat ice sculpture to commemorate George Washington's crossing of the Delaware River. And of course, had to stop off for a nice winter stiffener made with none other than Blue Coat gin.
This ditty seemed to be perfect for the day, yesterday. Today has been nothing but vegging.

  4. That is a lovely little bridge.
I'm glad you have rapid tests at hand and, more importantly, plenty of gin to keep you safe and well.

BTW thank you for your comments on Debra's post about my book. I agree, it'd be fabulously fun to meet in person. I also agree about Amazon. I wish they didn't have the grubby fists around the entire self publishing world. )=

    Stay well, my dear.

    1. Thanks Robyn!!!!! I will have to cave in and use them. I usually have luck with many titles on other avenues, but I will have a look see, order and run...quick!!!!! LOL!!!!!! Yes they are rather grubby. They will soon monopolize everything.

  5. You're wise to postpone your aunt's memorial until the Spring. Hopefully omicron may have eased off by then. And the memorial could be held outdoors in a nice park or something. It's always safer out in the well-ventilated Great Outdoors.

Also, I like that ice sculpture of Washington crossing the Delaware. And it seems I should take up colouring.

  6. Those pictures are breathtaking!

I would love nothing more than to walk in Lenape Park, but would most likely slip and break my hip and my ass on that bridge, but how pretty. So sorry to hear of the terrible news about your uncle and cousins, but yes, better to be safe than sorry. This dreaded virus is relentless. I sure hope your uncle stays well. We were careful the whole way through the pandemic. It takes once, in some stupid way. I still can't believe we did all we could, yet it still took my William. Every day is still hard sometimes.

  7. Gorgeous photos! I wish I had a better outlook on winter. I think it's beautiful but still can't embrace it. Very wise to hold the memorial later. Beside your aunt if I remember you saying love nature, so a nice memorial outdoors followed by dinner will be nice.

I'm a big fan of Dean's and I always loved all his versions of "A Marshmallow World"

The drink looks delicious. Does it have a name?

Your saying any virus would end up in the Betty Ford made me laugh.

Hope covid passes quickly for your family. I hope it's losing its grip. The news here suggests this is so.
    Take care. X

    1. That drink was called a Bed of Roses, made with Blue Coat Gin, lemon juice, cranberry puree and garnished with honey rose petals. It was delicious.

So far my uncle is going well. Hopefully he'll test negative at the end of his quarantine period.

    1. Jokes aside I have a nightly gin and tonic...for years now. I seriously could not tell you that last time I was sick with a virus or flu and very seldom get a cold. I either have an extremely strong immune system or it's the dam gin!!!!
