PROPRIETIES

If only this country had the same fire and gusto with more important issues such as health care, minimum wage and  racism issues as it did with # freebritney.........

  1. True. Only if we had the same passion as many did for this.

  3. Here Here!!!!

While I'm glad she got away from her dad, I still don't think her elevator goes to the top.

  4. There's no time for major issues like healthcare, gun control, minimum wage and race issues...because we are worried about things like Britney, and besides, they have to play a congressional baseball game. Your right...Priorities!!!

  5. Yass hennny! Britney get tons of air time...nevermind all the POC who go missing and not found, where is their air time? Nevermind all the murdered trans victims. Where's their air time? Why we are giving air time and columns to celebrities and second rate reality stars and C list has beens on their going ons is beyond me. And why do we care?

  7. Free healthcare would be regarded as socialism, a dirty word here in the USA (in spite of the number of WESTERN DEMOCRACIES that have some form of it.) Had Britney Spears a picture of Eugene Debs tattooed on her left breast, many of those people who wanted her "freed" would have applauded her father locking her up in a padded cell.

  8. Speaking as an outsider I have never been able to understand why there are so many Americans so hostile to the thought of a national health service. Our health service is the jewel in the country's crown and it would shine even brighter if politicians had NOTHING to do with it. All through your working life you pay a bit each month into the national pot and the amount is far less than any health insurance would cost. Now I am an old lady I get free prescriptions into the bargain. If I wasn't old I'd be paying a standard rate for prescriptions that normally would not cover the cost of the meds

  9. I didn’t know you were a socialist! But yeah, the right has co-opted the talking points on health care. Maybe when the survivors get their hospital bills for COVID they’ll realize the need for “Medicare for all.” But don’t you dare touch their SOCIAL Security!

  11. What happens in the US if you don't have health insurance? Do they just leave you to die if you get ill? Is there a basic free service or do you have to pay for everything?
I'm grateful for the NHS in the UK, they are especially good in emergencies - they are swamped at the moment, and the waiting lists are getting longer because of Covid and the lockdowns, and I've read that this is forcing some people to go private, when they can't really afford to. I'm hoping our NHS survives.
    Sx

Oh - and I was pleased to read that Britney is free of her father's control.

    1. Well, there is Medicare, a federal insurance program available to 65 years and older.

Medicaid is a state-based assistance program serving low-income people under the age of 65. Patients usually pay no part of costs for covered medical expenses, although a small co-payment may be required.

CHIP provides health coverage to uninsured children whose families earn too much to qualify for Medicaid, but too little to afford private coverage.

To my knowledge Scarlet, there is no basic free service at all,for those who don't have any insurance. But state by state they might have their own programs to offer.

  12. Oh, yes!
It baffles me how people get riled up about some things (that may be important) but are absolutely oblivious when something that needs that we pay attention to becomes a crisis. Really. America is way too into consumerism and that stubborn capitalist mentality to stop and think about others.

    XOXO

  13. Ain't that the truth. A single celeb crisis creates more interest than the loss of the country. It's all part of the dumbing down and short attention spans.

  14. Our priorities are all f'ed up.

  15. Agreed! Now that I'm unemployed, I'm paying $10 a month for health care due to a state subsidy, and the plan is better than the one I was paying $$$ for while employed! It can be done.

  16. We have universal medicare in Canada (YAY!) and the anti-vaxx covidiots are now screaming and "protesting" at hospital emergency entrances -- berating the very frontline doctors and nurses that have to treat their selfish, unvaccinated asses when they fall ill with Covid-19! A small, vocal segment of the Canadian population has gone absolutely insane from their denial, willful ignorance and downright stupidity! Evangelical "Christians" and frustrated white supremacists are fuelling this crap up here in Canada and in much of the U.S. and Europe too, IMHO.

    1. Even on a death bed and treated, and then recovering they are still miserable assholes. If that's there views, I say they shouldn't be treated...let them wilt and wither on the vine.

    2. Fortunately, medical ethics are the bedrock upon which we all depend and will apply even to these selfish cretins. However, public patience has worn mighty thin and our hospitals/ICUs are on the brink of collapse in Alberta and Saskatchewan. If triage protocols kick in, those covidiots will probably end up dying in field hospitals without respirators. What good will their bleach and horse dewormer cream do then?

  18. I was on the fence re: socialized medicine, but given that the current lot place money over the welfare of people and are in the pharmaceutical companies' pockets... F 'em. I want free healthcare. I want what most of the other world already has...
