HARRIS, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?

We live at a moment when more guns, tanks, nuclear-armed missiles, and aircraft carriers not only won’t make us safer, but could undermine our security by stealing funds from much more urgent priorities. This week is yet again, as both the House and the Senate  voted on a 10% reduction in the Pentagon’s bloated budget, and represents an sensible step at a time when pandemics, poverty, environmental destruction and racial injustice threaten our society far more seriously than traditional military challenges. I was shocked to see that 18 Democrats out of 45 voted with the GOP including Kamala Harris, who now made me feel betrayed.

Possible VP pick Kamala Harris, who would have been my pick to run with Biden, just joined the GOP senate majority to vote against shaving 10% off the military budget to put towards badly needed services. Yes, Kamala joined all the pols Dems claim they hate: Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham, Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz to vote vs Liz Warren, Bernie Sanders, Corey Booker, Amy Klobuchar and Kirsten Gillibrand. Some people think that a black woman VP pick will somehow help Biden’s candidacy. Not a black woman who would rather keep every penny in the bloated defense budget at a time when no one is attacking us. Only a 10% reduction to go to housing and services and she’s against it? A black woman who cares more about the US destroying the world than rebuilding this nation after a pandemic and oncoming recession which has hit people of color the hardest? Im very confused and disappointed by this move from her. I will vote for Biden no matter what, but she has completely loss any respect I had for her.

  2. ... shock to me too...I have been thinking - in this far from perfect world - that my dream team was Biden/Harris....and this from over a year ago! However, I always caution myself not to make too much of a single vote....the result of which would be no one to support....especially before I hear her rational! ...my thoughts.....

  3. Now you understand why I don't trust any politician...there all liars. And it sure doesn't make her look good since all the other running VP candidates voted against.

    1. ..to paraphrase Bismarck, “politics are like sausages. It’s better not to see them being made.”...just a bit cynical on my part but I do speak from knowledge with how things work in Washington....however totally believe in paying close attention to what people say and do...more important now than ever...and you make good points!

  5. She is alright, but I never trusted her. I just hope this shows finally where her heart is. It takes more than just being black and making speeches when it's convenient to REALLY be an ally. There's a saying we have, All skinfolk aint kinfolk. She's a prime example. there are plenty of other , better choices I believe.

  7. It's sad just how many D's there are on the Nay's side of this...we apparently still have a lot of work to do. I still like her but very disappointed with her.

  8. I personally think both parties are sad excuses for what they both used to be. Both formaer shells of themselves.

  9. when I left the US years ago, the politics was one thing i did not miss. Their is no democracy. Both side want the country one sided and that is not a democracy. Everyone became to either too left or too right. But right now it looks like the USA has two parties working for trump. There needs to be a larger Independent party or a independent workers party. If the US can't find a good balance of both parties and ones with bipartisan thinking nothing will get better over there.

  10. Politics in this country are at most convoluted and at best unintelligible. I know they have done this kind of maneuver before. It's a tit-for-that kind of arrangement. The repugs are so against any help for their constituents that the pretzel-like maneuvers they make people do are incomprehensible.
I'm not excusing Kamala, mind you. But I think there may be a reason for this. The repugs control many decisions and they always love making the Dem pols twist and turn.
    We'll see....
    Now, back to Buster.

    XOXO

    1. I don't think she has addressed it yet...but she is taking heat. I still like her, I can forget it, but can't not forgive it. I can't understand all this money going into defense, right now, with what's going on.

  12. i just don’t get it. I guess we’ll learn more In the coming days. How the hell will we ever drain the swamp?

  13. I don't get that vote, either. I also don't get why there's no urgency to extend the unemployment benefit bonus. It ends Sunday. If it doesn't happen then the mass evictions may start.

  14. Some of it can be election year politics, I don’t know if she is up for re-election. Though I saw one IL senator voted for the bill and he is up for re-election this year. Politics is complicated business. And dirty.

  15. I really need to look into this bill - or amendment to the bill - to find out why. Because, both of my senators voted with the GOP and I intend to find out why. They have both been steadfast Dems; this makes no sense that they would vote no on a 10% reduction to the Pentagon budget. Arrrggggh.

    1. Especially since the 10% breaks down to like 20 some million. It could do alot to help communities struggling right now, and it would still leave millions upon millions to go to the pentagon.

  16. This was really rather savvy of her politically. Had she voted for the reduction, they would have used it against her... saying, see, she doesn't care about the military, she doesn't care about our soldiers fighting wars, she doesn't care about protecting our country. She will defund the police. You will have no 911... see how that works? And Biden can't afford that. Trump is already attacking Biden on that front. This would give him more ammunition. I am still all for her. I am torn between Elizabeth Warren and her. Both would be hard hitters and articulate, which is something Biden needs, as he is soft, white and old.

    1. You could be right. I tend to blow up and take everything out with it before I know why. It's very Daenerys Targaryen of me!!!!! I will have my opera glasses watching her very closely from here out.
