I love a good charming flower shop.
Nothing like fresh cut flowers in the home...it's one of those little luxuries I enjoy in life. My longtime good friend, Shawn, AKA the Dame, of the Capital Street Duo I speak of, is a very talented and creative floral designer and has had his hand at it now for many years. After all this time of creating florals and events for weddings and public spaces, he finally decided to open his own shop. The catch. The shop was finished, but then the pandemic came and he was never able to open because of the mandatory shut down. Luckily, being in downtown Harrisburg, and a tight knit community, he was able to get some business for the Easter and Mother's Day holidays. But I'm happy to say he has been finally able to open for business and I wish well on this new part of his journey. On my trip home, I was able to stop in and have a tour and pick up a few things. I have used him for years to make the dinner arrangements for my aunt's Easter and Thanksgiving dinners. It wouldn't be a dinner without one of Shawn's masterpieces.
The shop, Paper Moon Flowers, is located in downtown Harrisburg and much needed, as there were no flower shops left to my knowledge . The shop turned out stunning and very charming I must say. Not only does he offer many beautiful fresh stems, but he also offers a bit of everything....silks, candles, incense, home gift items, hostess gifts, and soon, a selection of bath luxuries. Everything is so beautifully displayed too. If you don't see the fresh flowers you want, he can get anything for you , you require.
The flowers I get from him are always top quality, and last for a good long time. If you need an arrangement, his work is always different, not your run of the mill humdrum arrangements. You'll get a out of the box, creative, and stunning work of art that will exceed your expectations. Whether your getting an arrangement or just a few fresh stems, Shawn takes care to wrap them nicely, and gives everything an extra touch of attention to little details...which one just doesn't see anymore. Last time home, I picked up his incense, and does it ever scent the house nicely!
I know I have a few readers and friends who read my blog in Harrisburg, so if you live there or are passing through town, be sure to stop in at Paper Moon Flowers and tell him the Mistress Borghese sent you. You won't be disappointed. The shop is located at 916 North Third Street, Harrisburg PA. Hours are Tuesday- Friday 10am-3pm and Saturday 10am- Noon. Private appointment times are also available upon request. Shawn also offers no contact floral delivery for your convenience and peace of mind. Remember...
shop local, and shop small!!!!
I must have a bit of my mom in me. My favorite bloom is lilac. So pretty, so colorful, and so delicate looking. Then, my second favorite is the daisy. From one extreme to the other! LOL. You're lucky to have Shawn and his shop!

XOXO
What a great shop, and not just for the flowers. i'd browse just to see all the decor.
ReplyDeleteOh...i love little shops like this. I haven't seen a thing in there I don't like yet. And what a creative name. Much luck to your friend. And flowers shops by far are better to support than getting them in a supermarket. They never seem to last. The same has done well.
ReplyDeleteWe can vouch for the no flower shops are any kind of retail in Harrisburg. There was nothing to shop down town when we lived there. If one likes eating and drinking then your in luck. We would have loved this shop!!! We wish him all the luck on this beautiful shop. He should be proud of it.
ReplyDeleteWishing them the best of luck. Keep your standards high and you can't help but succeed. Love that last arrangement in the little antique case... Oh, those creative types!
ReplyDeleteA lovely shop! I see why you like it.
ReplyDeleteI wish shawn lots of luck. what an attractive shop; you can tell by the decor shawn is a class act. just wish I lived closer to h-burg.
ReplyDeleteVery nice, I remember the Paper Moon restaurant, ate many a fine meal there.
ReplyDeleteOhhhhhhh I remember that place well. I had a few dates there when I first came out....wasn't there to long though after coming out.
DeleteYour Friend's Shop is Sublime, I could move in and Live there! So glad he was able to do the delayed Opening and have the Local Community Support and this is great promotion here on your Blog. If I lived closer of coarse I'd be a regular!
ReplyDeleteDawn...this is the same friend who has the house I said you'd have a field day in.!!!
DeleteOh...i feel for him to have a business and then have it not open because of the pandemic.i sure hope he does well. The shop is amazing. Your pictures give an excellent feel for the place. I could see myself exploring it all.
ReplyDeleteI'd be out the door to his shop, if I lived anywhere near there. It looks fabulous - the kind of place I have fun meandering slowly through. Congratulations to him.
ReplyDeleteHugs and kisses to you, MM.
What a lovely shop!!!! I love places like this and have that extra detail to everything about it. The cooler flowers look wonderful and how with the times to be pandemic correct too.
ReplyDeleteFresh flowers are one of my guilty pleasures and retail therapy. I would love his shop! I've already seen a couple things I liked!!!!! How anyone doesn't like to shop small business is beyond me. He should be proud of what he has created. Wish him luck.
ReplyDeleteWhat awful timing. So glad he was able to see it through. The shop looks stunning. My kind of place. If I lived there, I'd be in all the time. Wishing him tremendous success. I thought by the title, Florabunda, that you were introducing a new drag queen. (Then again, I'll bet the name's already been used.)
ReplyDeletei'm surprised he didn't hire you as the drag queen greeter sitting on that lovely settee.
ReplyDeleteWhat a charming shop. I hope he does well. He has quite the variety.
ReplyDeleteStunning shop!!!!! I absolutely love the facade of the shop...and you know im a huge believer in revitalizing cities and small business. Much luck to him with this chic little shop.
ReplyDeleteEverything is arranged just so. All so lovely. Floral shops are hard to find anymore.
ReplyDeleteWhat a chic and stylish little shop. It's one of those little places people like to come across when walking in town or visiting. When I get up there better believe ill be stopping in. We have friends way uptown Harrisburg.
ReplyDeleteThis is making me want to go out and get some fresh flowers. I love the name too. And are those huge mushrooms in the Windows????
ReplyDeleteI would love to shop there...although my wallet always is not as happy. Looks like a real quaint shop. You creative people always know how to set up shop. Is he not the one who has the cool house you sometimes?
ReplyDeleteYes....this is the same friend!!!!
DeleteWishing him well. Longing for more small local businesses.
ReplyDeleteGood luck, Shawn!
ReplyDeleteThis pandemic has put the kibosh on so many dreams, but the shop looks great.

What a lovely shop. And a place if a dog bowl out front is ok in my book!!!! Is that a dog bowl?
ReplyDeleteI saw more than just flowers I'd pick up there.
ReplyDeleteThe shop is beautiful! I'm sure Shawn will do very well - especially with you putting the word out.
