This had been the first summer season I hadn't made it to P-town in years. But I have been there off season, which I'm tending to enjoy more. The only problem is I do enjoy the fun of the gay venues and meeting and flirting with all the men, and they drop in numbers after Labor Day. While I did take a square cut, it was too cool for me to strip down and lie out, but two of Pearly's friends we ran into had been laying out on the beach...more power to them I say! This trip was mostly to unwind, relax, and eat and drink and just hang out. If you haven't been to Provincetown yet, I highly recommend a first trip in the off season. The town is extraordinary any day, but in the fall, it is downright striking. Aside from the magnificent light, there are far less, if any, restaurant, pub, and bar lines, next to no need for reservations far in advance, if any, many stores have deep sales, the weather is still good, with temps in the 50-60s and the best part? One really gets the local experience, as the locals are happy and laid-back since the crowds have left and gave then their town back. I've long said, visit a place off peak hours or off season to get the real feel of the place and get to know the locals. I did meet one local gentlemen, and he did show me some local flavor alright. Pearly even commented that even with no fish to shoot in the barrel, I never starve! That bitch.
Here are a few of my favorite snaps from the long weekend.
I'm confused, why is one of the towers from The Lord of the Rings doing in PTown
ReplyDeleteLMAO!!!!! It's actually called Pilgrim Monument. It started getting built in 1907.
DeleteI thoroughly enjoy P-town off season far more than in the summer. And your right, you can really get to know the locals far easier. Gorgeous pictures!!!!! Was the fox and lighthouse Race Point?
ReplyDeleteYes indeed, Race Point beach.
DeleteLovely!
ReplyDeleteI love touristy places off season. They're so peaceful!
And if I had George or Joe's body, I'd be half naked until the end of November, babes...
XOXO
Way to cool for me...I'm a hot house flower! They'd have to press me between them for heat, which as you suspected, I would be fine with. I wonder if they will read this?
DeleteIm easy boys!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a wonderful lil village.. ... Reminds me of Beauregard Town, which is the second oldest part of Baton Rouge, The oldest part is Spanish Town, both are very close to the Big Muddy, steps away actually, You are so Lucky Mr. Man....
ReplyDeleteI think you'd love P-town Tommy, as would I the lil towns you named. I should come explore and we can share a whiskey.
DeleteSummer may be over, but one look at George and Joe and I'm covered with sweat!
ReplyDelete*runs to get some terry towels*
DeleteIt's already gotten depressing since you left.
ReplyDeleteAnd it's true you all!!!! In the words of Dorothy Zbornak of Blanche-"She could be in a coma. Put I man within three miles of her, she'll roll over and shave her legs."
Hey, it only takes one guy to light up the night!!!! You and this barrel rumor......
DeleteMy first time in P'Town was one Halloween. A great time. And hello George and Joe!
ReplyDeleteWhat a shame my hump day wasn't near them today!!!!! There, "big hands" seemed to be stuck on the same time...as it was chilly that day.
DeleteLove the skelly mermaid!
ReplyDeleteWhen I took that, it didn't occur to me for a good few seconds it was a mermaid.
DeletePlease tells us you were the filling in a G&J sandwich?!?!?!?!?
ReplyDeleteI love P-town, but now go anymore, every other year. I was going two or three times a season...and realized, there is so much of the world I haven't seen. Never been there off season yet.
Gorgeous pictures!!!!I love the vibe there. No where in the autumn like a drive up through the Northeast and into Cape Cod. It's simply breathtaking. Though the foliage seems late this year. And the last picture has me yearning for the beach.
ReplyDeleteOn the list of place to go someday
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe you haven't been yet as traveled as you are???
DeleteIt looks so nice. George and Joe appear to be interchangeable.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Just how I enjoy my men, interchangeable.
DeleteWonderful! And it looks like they're gearing up for Halloween.
ReplyDeleteYour advice is right on. The locals are the ones able to give the real scoop and ambiance - no matter where you travel.
I would always tell people to visit New Hope during the week and not weekends. It's all tourist on weekends and one doesn't experience the real essence of the town on weekends.
DeleteWell, I sure know which "local" to call if I ever get back there!
DeleteProvincetown is lucky that it doesn't suffer influxes of tourists 365 days per annum; look at the problems Venice suffers from! And even our little neck of the woods houses one of Europe's most popular tourist spots - a bloody shopping centre!
ReplyDeleteI imagine that must be a fun place on Halloween, even if it's only the locals there.
ReplyDeleteTundra Bunny here...
ReplyDeleteP-town looks exactly like what I've always pictured a New England village to be. I'm sure the off-season is much welcomed by the permanent residents -- tourists can be such a pain in the ass sometimes!
That was like New Hope on weekends when I lived there. Weekends were crazy. The locals only ever came out during the week. Weekends would be mobbed.
DeleteGreat pictures!!!!! That town must be fun for Halloween. And I'm not buying you didn't get into the speedos of those lads.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been to Provincetown in years, but it is amazing how, yet it has not changed much. That's a good thing. You got some wonderful pictures and look to be in the swing of the season. It's always such a relaxing time, course we always went on off season. Our best friends, a gay couple had a home there. Good memories there.
ReplyDelete50-60º - That's a British summer - and people will strip off!! Not me though.
ReplyDeleteAnyhow, P-town looks wonderful, thank you for sharing your visit.
Sx
Oh my!!! Our summers are much hotter!!!
Deletelove the brave boys, George and Joe
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing they would be great to drink from!
