Today is a good day to share these. It's a bit rainy and damp today. I was just on a live video chat with the Sheldrick Trust to watch Christie give everyone a tour of the nursey with the orphan elephants, and Maxwell their rescued black rhino. It's the next best thing to actually being there, and it's nice over time to see the personalities of the little elephants. So that warmed me up today. This autumn has been very warm and we sure can't complain of cold yet. The above was some seasonal arrangement I did for my mother when I was home last. When she was recently here for her visit, I was showing her around a bit. She thought it was very neat we had a covered bridge here. She seemed to think they were only in Lancaster County. Bucks County is home to I think 8 covered bridges...some of the oldest in the country and some still original. One of the 8 is right up the road from me, at the one park I don't go to much. Covered Bridge Street Park. It's right at the covered bridge. I would sometimes sit here in the gazebo and read. I need to go back here more often, I had forgotten how pretty it is here, but with two other parks and the lake, I should switch things up!
The bridge itself just underwent a refurbish, and the platform and base was also reinforced for continued driving. I'm sure the Headless Horsemen doesn't t like the competition of cars!!!! It also got a painted job...and it is gleaming again. I even dare say postcard perfect with the foliage.
Looks like colorful confetti no?
This bridge was just put in recently to go over the little stream to connect the park to the development without having to walk along the road now and through the bridge.
When we came upon this, we half expected to see some wood imp or fairy queen
using it as their throne.
I'm not sure when this came about, or who even did it, but it was rather fun to come across and a perfect place stream side to have impromptu cock-a-tails!!!!! I had never ventured this far in to the stream before.
Of course....Buster Borghese LOVES going out for autumnal walks....there can never be too many walks even at his age of 12. He is always ready, and with I and the ex both being home and getting walks whenever...he is spoiled.
See his smile?
happy buster! there is a covered bridge in valley forge national park too.
ReplyDeleteIn all my years living here I have yet to go tour Valley Forge yet.
DeleteI love a covered bridge, and those fall colors are getting me in the spirt. Throw in some Buster and it's a good day all around!
ReplyDeleteThis time next week, I think the leaves will be but gone.
DeleteExtra hugs to Buster.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed the pictures.
Loves Fall.
xoxo :-)
💗💗💗
DeleteIf I did ever move back to the States, I would consider seriously living where you are. Would you want a Magpie neighbor! Beautiful pictures!
ReplyDeleteI think you would be a WONDERFUL neighbor! maddie lives 1 hour from me, so you would have 2 friends with whom to drink!
DeleteYes, if your quiet and like to drink!!!!! And like four hour lunches!
Delete"we half expected to see some wood imp or fairy queen using it as their throne. " Im surprised you weren't sitting there?!?!?!?!
ReplyDeleteIt's a cool picture, and does rather look like a Woodins throne.
I t would rather make a nice throne so to rule my animal menagerie no?
DeleteGreat photos! Buster's smile made the day brighter!
ReplyDeleteHe's panting, but is sure looks like a smile. Thanks Mitchell!
DeleteMy little Hercules is also 12 years old! And he is just crazy for his walkies... today it was snowing, but he cares not. He doesn't like rain or thunder and hides... but if I get his leash out he is always so excited to go. And go we do... How nice that you are still able to get out. Winter keeps threatening to begin here... this is our second major snowfall this month. I am not ready for it, as per usual.. but will learn to cope. I like running in the snow, but raises havoc with my sinuses (the cold air). Thanks for sharing the pics of your lovely world. You are so creative! Kizzes.
ReplyDeleteSNOW!!!!!!Already? Two major snowfalls? Is it laying already, or does it melt away. I think we had maybe one snow fall last year that amount to anything. Our autumn here has been pretty mild and warm.
DeleteI want more picture of your awesome area. It's so pretty in the autumn there. And how cool there is a covered bridge. We need post like this now.....
ReplyDeleteBunny! Yes, the leaves are so pretty,
ReplyDeleteI like the simplicity of your arrangement for your mother. So natural. Is this at her front door?
ReplyDeleteOne can never overdose on autumn. So many changes in a couple of weeks, it is wonderful, so we must enjoy now for it will be over shortly. And I dare say that third picture IS postcard ready!!! And would you look at Buster's eyes???
It does indeed hang at her front door!
DeleteCalifornia has no glimpses of autumn so I myself appreciate these images very much. Buster and his whiskey colored eyes!!!
ReplyDeleteYou should spent a autumn in the Northeast you big lug.
DeleteThose leaves really do look like confetti - so pretty!
ReplyDeleteI must admit, I'm clueless about covered bridges - Why are they covered? What reason, when the road either side is not? Were they meeting places or something? (I don't think we have them in Britain - or if we do, none in my neck of the woods)
Oh, I've just remembered: there's one in Beetlejuice (over the Winter River)!
I think I had heard it was to keep snow off the bridge roadway in the winter. Back then, the Northeast used to have record huge snowfalls and in areas with very high snowfall, such as Vermont, the weight of snow could demolish a wooden bridge (as most were). A sloping roof allowed the snow to fall harmlessly into the river. Bridge surfaces also freeze before the regular roads to, so the roof would further protect for better crossing without sliding I suspect.
DeleteLove the arrangement. I think pumpkins are so pretty! To me, they mean Autumn. We have had weirdly warm weather during the day and chilly nights but we're also mostly out of leaves now.
ReplyDeleteAnd Buster!! He's so handsome.
You're giving me Bridges of Madison County vibes. I'm gonna go watch the movie again.
XOXO
I too like pumpkins and gourdes this time of year. And I don't know I ever saw that movie, but I did know a drag queen once by the name Bridgette of Madison County.
DeleteBuster is a real sweety!
ReplyDeleteSuch great fall images! The bridge ones I really love..not to mention that cute Buster. And no, not overdosed on autumn yet :)
ReplyDeleteLeave it to you to think of stream side cocktails. What came to mind was Hyacinth with her "water-side supper with riparian entertainments."
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures!!!!!
"WHO HAS THE PRAWNS?!?!?!"
DeleteLove covered bridges! And why a wood imp or fairy? Why not a satyr? I hear they can be a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteIf the satyr sits, Im afraid of what may be pointing to the sky.
DeleteGreat photos!
ReplyDeleteI only seen I believe is two covered bridges one was in Michigan and the other one in Oregon. Lovely little doggie.
ReplyDeleteStay Safe and Coffee is on
The arrangement at your mom's house is spectacular. You have such talent.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I've ever seen a covered bridge, except for the one on beetlejuice!
Is that a rabbit or a hare I spy?
Buster looks like a very happy boy. Smiling and everything!
Let us just hope I don't go and do a Maitland's off the bridge like in that movie.
DeleteA hare, and we don't get that many...rabbits far out number hares here.
What great pictures. Nothing like fall colors. And covered bridges are beautiful. Our little development’s signature piece is a covered “bridge,” it’s just the “covered” part over the roadway into the development. It brings a bit of charm.
ReplyDeleteAnd buster is looking good. Tim and Ernest say hello!
You should sent in Tim and Ernest's to me for the next happy moments or just a private picture to see. I'd love to see them!
DeleteIt all looks so calm and peaceful...which is what we all need right now. And Buster! What a handsome little devil!
ReplyDeleteHe's still sharp as tact!
DeleteOh so pretty! Looks absolutely gorgeous there! The bridge pictures so pretty. i don't think we have one around here either.
ReplyDeleteWe can never see too many images of autumn.
ReplyDeleteIn fact, I was out early this morning, in the fog and drizzle, photographing the remains of autumn at the park down the street.
lovely - especially the pooch
ReplyDeleteThis is putting me in the mood for Turkey day. Since Im home now I even decorated my little doorway this year.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea Buster was that old. He looks like he's half that age.
ReplyDeleteMaybe a good wood worker can do something about that tree stump. Similar to the throne in Game of Thrones, but instead make it a large chair with carvings of Bouvier and her kids on the sides and back.
Only muddy, soggy confetti here. I feel that Autumn has been a bit of a damp squib in Devon, so thank you for your glorious photographs.
