I hate to speak too soon, but I dare say spring is on the way. It seems like overnight that the lawn crocus appeared out of nowhere, followed by a few patches of snowdrops. While it is far from warm spring days, it was warm enough for me to get out in the garden yesterday to do a garden clean up and take away the extra leaves and tan bark away from roses bushes, bulbs breaking the ground and other tenders. All is now ready for fresh plantings, new tan bark for beds, and transplanting's for some other species. The bluebirds and mockingbird made numerous appearances yesterday as did the Robins, a sure-fire sign of spring. In other news, Warbucks returned to Budapest, sure to return in a few weeks to do a clear out of the house in New Hampshire when the sale is final. I got my figure crunched by financial guy for my yearly review of my 401k, stocks and taxes completed. We stayed dressed this year. The Casa also celebrated the 84th birthday of the Mother, who bitched and groaned over attention. But noticed her trap shut quick when she found out I was making her from scratch Shrimp Scampi... her requested birthday dinner, in addition to her room being filled with birthday balloons. And my marketing for the week is done with a nice piece of Corn beef with cabbage for tomorrow night's dinner.
Could there be Shamrock Shakes on my horizon????
I love Spring.
ReplyDeleteGreat pics. Looks like the (your) sap is rising.
Bring it on???
JP x
It seems JP that something is always rising around here! I hope you have been well and getting into mischief. I often think fondly of you.
DeleteXOXO
Enjoy your Shamrock Shake!
ReplyDeleteThe flowers are blooming at Casa Bob y Carlos ... though this morning was two hours of tornado watch and then all of the sudden that stopped and nary a word was said again. Needless to say we got a bunch of rain, good for the blooms, but no severe weather!
ReplyDeleteIn a few weeks' time, it will be spring in full swing I suspect. One of my favorite times of year. We also had a tornado watch this evening, but it was mostly dark, ominous skies and heavy downpours...very good for the lawn and gardens, your right.
DeleteLovely pictures.....heavens knows I think we could all use some spring. Love the lawn crocus. I miss mine. I have a few crocuses in pots here blooming on the porch. I noticed flowering bulbs don't do well here with the sandy dirt. I never saw a mockingbird, how pretty they are. I thought I heard they were mischievous?
ReplyDeleteWe have two mockingbirds...and they only showed up this winter, They are cool. They can also imitate many other bird calls, and they are bold, not phase by humans' presence. One can get pretty close.
DeleteI love the bluebirds! Ok, what's your secret? You got me into birds now. I have gotten, finally the beginning of a nice assortments of birds. And Happy Birthday to your mother!!!!
ReplyDeleteTwo things I learned to get bluebirds. 1- they like dried meal worms, and 2- they like orange. You can cut an orange in half and nail it to a fence, or buy suet with orange and fruit pieces in it. They love those. The suet also attracts orioles and grosbeaks.
DeleteAbout time the start of your garden post start. Love it last year.
ReplyDeleteShamrock shakes in your future? We should have a game of your readers just how many you have enjoyed already. My guess is 8.
You’re the best kind of son. Enjoy those shamrock shakes. Happy birthday to your obviously wonderful mother! She did a great job and was also very lucky.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday, Mistress Senior!
ReplyDeleteI'm always interested in how the seasons are so different here in the UK and over there in Pennsylvania. Our Crocuses are all but over, and the Snowdrops have been and gone. We're in the midst of a flush of Daffodils, and the Tulips are in bud already - yet you're on a latitude with Mediterranean countries like Spain, Italy and Greece, where it's far too warm for such flowers, and where we Brits head on holiday! Jx
It's all mind boggling, isn't it? But once the seal cracks, there is no holding back spring. But I am glad to have you and Madam Arcadi to provide some beautiful views up your back passage.
DeletePrecious pictures! We could all use some spring happiness pictures. I love that first one. And Welcome Back!!!
ReplyDeleteLovely stems! And I just bet your Mr. Financial Planner gave you a nice big return on your figures.....
ReplyDeletePhiladelphia you mention it, I did rather get a nice return.
DeleteI do hope spring is coming, I'm done with the cold!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures as always.
A very happy birthday to your Mom. 84! Wowzers.
You are a most excellent son. Xx
The Crocus hath poke us! Spring arrives!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to Mom! Keep her overwhelmed with happiness. It is nice to have the taxes done.
ReplyDeleteYes I'm very relieved that my whole financial appointment went very well, and I got a small bit of return.
DeletePlants are getting confused; I've got snowdrops and snowflakes out together
ReplyDeleteIn past Seasons we have also.
DeleteIt's so nice to see your garden "springing" to life again, Maddie! The crocuses and blue birds are beautiful. I woke up to another fresh layer of snow this morning -- the local jackrabbits' white coats are turning brown in anticipation of spring and they're back to hiding in daylight, the poor buggers!
ReplyDeleteWhat a delightful post! Here's to spring!
