HOTEL TIME

I sometimes find it hard to believe, that the beautiful town of Hershey was right down the road from where I grew up. Even though I grew up near Hershey, I have mentioned I'm more of a Ghirardelli boy. Hershey isn't bad, but I get a waxy taste to it. But that's here nor there...no denying the town of Hershey is a beautiful little town, and one of the jewels is the Hotel Hershey and it's rose gardens.  Who knew all these years later I'd be going weekly to the hotel as the floral shop my friend has does the weekly florals for all of the Hershey properties. Again...is it work?

Apparently Mr Hershey faced the decision of providing welfare for his town or employing them. Thankfully , he chose the later and his dream of building The Hotel Hershey commenced. At a time when the nation was gripped in the Great Depression, Milton Hershey decided to build a magnificent hotel atop of Pat's Hill over looking the chocolate factory. D.Paul Witmer was the architect who designed the hotel, who designed it after a hotel Hershey used to stay, when he visited the Mediterranean. It has a U-shaped base with a tower at either end. The hotel turned into a 170 room hotel, with Spanish patio, tiled floors, a grand fountain and a dinning room without corners. Since then there are 5 dinning places in the hotel, shops  two bars, and a full service spa. My mother and I often visited the rose garden and the butterfly arboretum in summers past. I took a walk one day after service to take a stroll.
One of out weekly changes.

A beautiful lily pond ....
One of them was being koi!

And with golfers like this what's to complain about?
I was about to ask if I could handle his club.

  1. Gorgeous grand hotel. I love the Spanish architecture and the gardens. But I was most impressed with the golfer's stance, though I might like to help him swing his club.

  3. Gorgeous! Love the koi pond...they look huge. And that has got to be the shortest shorts I have ever seen a golfer wear. and I'm not complaining.

  4. I’ll bet you could make that putter stand up.

We went on the Hershey Factory tour when I was a kid, but never took in the rest of the town. Too bad.

  8. Very pretty. So many colors. Are you sure that guy is a golfer? His clothes match and there's no plaid in sight!

    1. I had to consult my ex on that since he golfs....shockingly. He said...Well if you have a nice body...show it. I'd never seen a golfer wear short shorts and tight clothing. They generally look like Bob Hope.

    2. I thought the same thing. Golfers often look like the Bob Hope Classic, Maddie is right.

    3. I figure they have to dress colorfully tacky as a distraction from the utterly boring sport that is golf! Sorry to any duffers out there, but that has to be the most tedious sport to watch on television. Grown men slowly chasing their balls with a stick, trying to get them into teeny holes. Sounds hotter than it is.

    4. Sounds like a Friday night at the Casa du Borghese Ms Deedles!

    5. You're right, Miss Mack. I seemed to have mashed my sports together! That can get one in trouble on a golf course.

  14. What a gorgeous place. It's so serene. Love the roses and the koi.
You must feel in seventh heaven doing the floral displays there. Do you need a hand? 😁

  15. Nice place, which must be an inspiration for your floral displays. I imagine that Hotel Hershey is VERY unlike the unlovely cheap, tacky and gaudy Mar-e-Lago.

I'm with you about Hershey chocolate (and all cheap chocolate);it tastes as if it is made with lard. Currently awaiting my next delivery of artisanal chocs.

  16. Isn't it amazing what they managed to do with their money back then? Build things to employ people. Now? They build playtoys (space ships and yatchs) for themselves.
But you florals are gorgeous as always!

  18. One of William and I last trips before the pandemic. It is quite a nice hotel and one doesn't even needs to leave the ground if one doesn't desire too. The rose pictures are stunning.

    Would love to stay there!
Sadly, all my plans to go visit places have been scrubbed. What with stupid MAGAts anti-vaxxers fucking everything up and making the Delta variant run rampant?
This place is deffo in my bucket list, though ^_^
