You'll please forgive me for being absence for a couple days, but with work backed up after being off a week, the after glow of a edge of your seat election, it has been exhausting! The last two days after work, my neighbor Nathan asked if I wanted to help pack up supplies for care packages to send off to Staten Island and Toms River, NJ. The Chalfont and Doylestown residents decided to collect provisions at the defunct church up the road, which has been closed for years. Since I came through pretty damn lucky, I though I should take part and help out. They had amassed quite the amount of goods. Lots of locals stores had even donated packing boxes, and merchandise. While there was some non-perishable foods and water, most of the care packages contained batteries, sweatshirts,sweaters, blankets, flashlights, various sundries and toiletries, and first aids. We had a nice assembly line going, and after two nights, we got it all packed up. One of the local ladies even wrote a hand written letter, and then took it to Kinko's to have photo copied, which they did for free! They were placed in each box to let the victims know they aren't forgotten. The trucks were loaded today, all 245 boxes! It felt nice to know someone would be happy to receive this and make their day. It was the least we could all do.

ReplyDeleteFrom waht I understand, they can't get enough of the basic living provisions like clothing and blankets and as you say sundries! The darg trope you met and I are going to do the same here in P-Town. I hope we can get a good response.

ReplyDeleteNot only for a good cause ,but also brings a community together. We have given three times to the Red Cross already, still just doesn't seem to be enough.......
ReplyDeleteDown here in Philly the community center has done the same, with about 400 boxes heading out. Some of the members of the symphony played while boxes packed. It was a great day.
