We Dined In A Pod
Over the weekend we dined out with friends at one of our favorite spots, Pod. Philadelphia restaurant impresario Stephen Starr's retro-modern offering, located in the town's "University City" neighborhood, lets its guests sip sake, beer, and colored cocktails while munching on fresh sushi, dim sum, and Pan-Asian entrees, while listening to some groovy lounge music. The hip, contemporary, "starship-like" space was conceptualized by famed Manhattan designer David Rockwell and influenced by the films "Sleeper" and "2001: A Space Odyssey." The retro-modern Pod Restaurant in Philadelphia is full ,if I remember correctly, of happy patrons sipping traditional Japanese sake, nursing a beer, and savoring rainbow-colored cocktails. The offerings are served up in style by executive chefs Michael Schulson, Hiroyuki Zama Tanaka, and Erik Preston and their highly capable, well-trained team. Boasting such amenities as a full bar, available counter seating complete with a conniver belt sushi bar, plus take-out or late night cuisine.
And the real cool part is if you have a reservation or a big party, you can sit in one of the "pods" and you can control the lighting to different colors. The purple lighting in the picture below is in of the pods. So the whole pod glows one color. Come think of it, the only color in the place was the pods, some of the ligthing and the cock-a-tails! Everything else is all white. If you ever get to Philly and you like this type of food, you should try it. You can view, yes this means you Kailyn, Pod's menu also. Of course, after all the sake the only thing I saw was stars. Tootles!
