Drag Homecoming Queen
I came across this story one night while googling God knows what and found it interesting and funny. Via Washington Post, the story of Ryan Allen, aka Reann Ballslee, the first drag queen to be named homecoming queen at George Mason University in 2009. I think it's a pretty awesome twist on an otherwise stereotypical and somewhat sexist contest. While it seems from the press around his election that many people see this as more humorous than anything else, acceptance of different gender expressions (like drag) are small steps towards broader acceptance. And with that fabulous coif, how could one not vote for her!

ReplyDeleteWhen Eldest's band played at a Homecoming event in high school the singer dressed as a homecoming queen - blond wig and crown, sash, little black dress, fishnet stockings and high heels. He decided not to shave his legs and the effect with the fishnet stockings was... disturbing to say the least.
ReplyDeleteWould you look at that fabulous wig! Very funny story.
ReplyDeleteYou go girl! What fabulous hair!
ReplyDeleteWhen I went to college we had a tranny who tried to run and came very close to winning. Great story. I wonder what people thought of the hair?
ReplyDeleteAnd what a history it is! Nothing like a little ol' drag race to stir things up in the pot!
