Artificial intelligence is hitting the mainstream, though the first form of AI was invented in England way back in 1951. Nowadays AI is used in a wide range of applications, from our personal assistants like Alexa and Siri, to cars, factories and healthcare. But you notice no one did any AI of my own personal assistant Miss Moorecock! AI has the power to make many massive improvements to our quality of life to almost any and all fields of work, but it's not perfect, but it seems to be everywhere right now. But, like all good inventions, it's not all roses. Obviously, there are certain downsides to using AI and machine learning to compete tasks. It doesn't mean we shouldn't look to use AI, but it's important that we understand it's limitations so that we can implement it in the right way, and not let it into the evil wrong hands. But I will admit being extremely drawn into AI art. Whether it is actually art like we know traditional art is a debate for another day...like any other art...but no doubt some of it is downright intriguing. I don't recall where I found these or who even did them...but this artist used AI to create portraits of passed on performers and how they might look in their later years, if they had kept living. I'd say some spot on.
And this one from yet another artist. How this filled me with glee!!!!
IF ONLY!!!!!
Yikes!
ReplyDeleteYour right, this technology is thrilling and very scary at the same time. But I do too admit to being drawn into the art aspect of it. These are quite something to see these performers if they would have reached old age. Mark Twain quote comes to mind-" Do not complain about growing old. It is a privilege denied to many."
ReplyDeleteWow!!!!! I am buying them all except the Whitney one. Whitney would wish she'd look that good had she lived to old age. You know she'd be sweating like a whore in church!!!! The portrait reminds me more of a young Cecily Tyson.
ReplyDeleteThis is a timely post. The headlines in some newspapers this morning say that a man who tried to kill the queen with a crossbow said AI told him to do it!
ReplyDeleteI often think about a quote from Robert A Heinlein, "what it humans are just one step in the evolution of robots?" That's a worrying thought, is it not?
By the time we're too deep into this AI, hopefully I'll be gone! Lol!!!!
DeleteI'd have to know exactly how the picture was composed to say if it was art or all just left all up to AI. For instance, if someone has a picture of Marilyn Monroe and they simply click on "AGE", then, no, it's not art. But I suspect it was more than that, that human judgement in some way was involved in the composition of that picture, and that makes it art.
ReplyDeleteWell that's just that Kirk. If they're doing a lot of the work and then manipulation that I would say yes it's art. But like you said if you're just typing in Old image of and it produces it then no, it's not alert
DeleteThese are pretty amazing. And oh, if only, on that last one… except I’d love to have seen that with a mostly bald white head and no tan in a can.
ReplyDeleteOh just you wait.
DeleteOh I completely agree about AI. That's cool as what's being done with it, it's also scary as hell. Because you know the US it's going to end up in the wrong hands. And like everything else politicians are in drag their feet on it. I will admit I do like the art I agree with you it can be fascinating the scenes it creates. And these are amazing. I'm not sure either about the Whitney Houston one and the Kurt Cobain one is debatable. But the Marilyn Monroe? I'm totally buying that. And that last one? I started laughing so hard thanks for the chuckle today.
ReplyDeleteYou can download it and do more cock yourself... oh, wait, that's Moorecock. I find it rather fascinating and not worried at all since it was inevitable.
ReplyDeleteHahahahaha!!! The Orange One!!! Yes, I was taking this all pretty seriously and was having pertinent, insightful thoughts until I scrolled to the bottom!! Thank you for the laugh!
ReplyDeleteSix
That is probably how agent orange looks without makeup now, yuk.
ReplyDeleteThe last one is off, it takes gallons of AquaNet to make the hair look like that.
ReplyDeleteBut that's how Donald looks now.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
AI is something we should be very wary about. Because it WILL find its way into nasty, illegal use. That's a given. This is why the SAG-AFTRA-Equity and the writers' guilds are on a rampage about it.
ReplyDeleteSee at the chaos it's already causing.
DeleteVery interesting.
ReplyDeleteThe big orange fills that cell from side to side
ReplyDeleteI think a can of Crisco is going to come in handy in that cell in more ways than one.
DeleteThe Orange Gunt!
ReplyDeleteAI both scares me and kind of thrills me.
ReplyDeleteYou have no idea the myriad conversations we have had at work about it (it affects us directly) but there's no 'right' answer as yet. AI learns from us and from itself and the results will forever be unpredictable.
I love what they've done here with all these legends, but I disagree with Amy's rendition. I think she'd be much more fab.
Also, I cackled with Jabba the Orange in... orange.
XOXO
You should have posted a traumatic photo warning ahead of that last one. I am scarred for life now.
ReplyDeleteIs it me or does Heath Ledger look like Jeff Bridges? I also think Selna would be still gorgeous in old age. I love AI art, but it ends there.
ReplyDeleteWOW!!!! I think the Selena and Princess Diana are so on point. And I disagree with the comment about Amy Winehouse. If she got to old age with her spirit and drag abuse, I think she'd look rough as hell. If she looked as good as this picture, I'd be shocked.
ReplyDeleteThe Marilyn Monroe one slayed me!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteamazing!!!
ReplyDeleteTundra Bunny here...
ReplyDeleteAI art is both terrific and terrifying to me, but the the Marilyn Monroe and Princess Diana looked eerily correct. John Lennon looked like a depressed leprechaun!
Could you imagine having the orange ogre as a cellmate? First thing I would do is duct tape his mouth.
ReplyDeleteFascinating! Alas all of these are not real.
