STUNNIN

Yes, if your familiar with Juno Birch, it does sound like her complimenting herself. STUNNING!

But this is more about print, as in pages of a magazine. Pages devoted to all drag and just drag. Holland has just launched the first all drag magazine to drag queens and the art of drag. Drag is an expression of one's creativity. Drag queens are art, personified. Many have the passion and ingenuity displayed,  be the individuals behind the wigs, the make up and the over the top camp fashions...and it's what has driven it's creator and photographer Cyril Jacobs, to start the magazine, filled with 145 pages of drag queens, fashion designers and interviews with drag queens, and their admirers from all over the globe. And I'm here for it! Inclusion does not work without diversity and what is more diverse than drag?

The magazine launched, and it featured Holland's Grande Dame and Drag Race winner Envy Peru on it's first cover, along with all 10 of the other Holland queens from  Holland's Drag Race to kick it off. The periodical promises to encompass every facet of drag, the drag community, from must see looks, and make up tips, queens backstories, and tell all interviews. The magazine takes all into the looking glass, and showcases the spirit of gender diversity in the beautiful queens who are flawless and will inspire. Cyril does incredible work with these queens, and captures them and the drag essence of a moment, making it perfect in the eye of the beholder. I know for someone like me, this will be a must have. And if like fashion, drag queens and photography...this will be an excellent addition to the coffee table. From what I have seen, the glossy mag is pure eye candy and is just as good as my drag photography art book.

The man behind the project, Cyril Jacobs. Drag is certainly breaking at the seams, so we may as well have out own magazine no? But is there enough to support it? These days, drag queens seem to be breeding like rabbits. You can't throw a rock without hitting a queen these days!

  1. I hope this makes it. Print publications don't easily succeed these days.

  4. I think it was about time. As you said, Drag IS performance art and Drag artists were due for a place where their talents would be showcased. Envy Peru is indeed stunning! And so are the other queens.
I hope it catches and we see it here in the states.
BTW, didn't Sasha Velour published Nightgowns?

    XOXO

    1. I don't know if she continued with the venture or not. I haven't seen it in some time. But the show Nightgowns still goes on, although she's more tied up with her Smoke and Mirrors show, which is fantastic. I don't know if places here will carry the mag or not. But Giovanni's Room in Philly say they may order 15 copies of each issue for those seeking it. I ordered for from the site.

  5. It was simply a matter of time. If the drag community supports itself, the magazine will survive (and thrive). Stunnin certainly is a perfect title for this.

  7. They picked the perfect title.
I have always been fascinated by the art of drag, the surprise of drag, the risk of drag, the rebellion of drag.

  8. How grand. And vivid. And a huge step up in quality from the magazines devoted to drag and female impersonators from the late 60's and mid-70's. I hope it develops a huge following... which it should. Looks like the Vogue of Drag. I think Pam Demic should have a monthly column. I miss her household hints. Thanks for sharing this. You always have your fingers on the pulse of... well... some vein. :) Kizzes.

  13. Excellent! I just bought one copy and they do indeed ship to the US. I hope it does well. The industry for magazines is much different then here in the US.
