My Red Light District at Casa du Borghese

Well, well, well, it is beginning to look like Christmas finally at the Casa du Borghese! I had a three day weekend with the exception of a work related event the Mistress had to tend to late on Saturday at the store. On Friday it was tree trim day and it took all day let me tell you. My usual reminisce of just about where every ornament came from, and who gave it to me, and the usual antics of making a new trend in light scarves started.

I wonder if it will catch on? Yeah, I didn't think so either. Enough horse play, it was time to pop a cork off the wine and start to get to work. I finsihed five hours later, and this is what the Casa now looks like.

Next to the tree on the console is a grouping on clocks, candles and a vase overflowing with peacock feathers and red peasant feathers.

Now you know a Mistress tree is bound to be nuts, eccentric and crazy. I embraced my ancestral roots from Amsterdam's red light district, and Holland where my dad's family is from, and used to sizes of red lights, with just a few frosted and clear white. At night, the whole room glows red! You should see it from outside. I'm sure my neighbors must be talking. And wondering why so many men are scene going in and coming out! I swear, there ain't nothing dirty going on! On the tree itself are old and new ornaments, from very large red balls, to mini red balls, to every size in between. The Holland side come in with some wooden items, flocked domains, like the church, that glows red, I'm so going to hell, and the use of many birds. I collect the birds and have almost 25 on the tree. You will also see a seal with ball, a glass owl, a quail in a nest, a peasant, and cardinal's nest. And how, I ask, can a tree be complete without a martini glass and cock-a-tail shaker!!!!

On the coffee table this year is my most treasured Christmas belonging, my Christmas Pyramid, a gift from the Aunt and Uncle. It is from a German company by the name of Muller, who makes the most incredibly detailed pyramids. I could watch that things spin all night, especially when I have had some gins! You can read about the them in a post I did here. It is joined by my wrought iron candelabra and over sized glass vase with willow, Norwood berry branches and white Witch Hazel flowers.

A sconce in the livingroom adorned with pine and glass balls.

In the Casa's kitchen the Mistress has her usual small tree worked in amongst my favorite tea pot and platter, I love it's simplicity. Every year I always enjoy changing out my apothecary jars. This year I did some branches with cardinals perched, with a ball cluster at the bottom, in another are all my various balls I have collected over the years, and in the last is a medley of dried artichokes, pine pods, and large cranberries.

A beaded candle chandelier in the Casa facilities!

The Mistress's has a multi-colored mini tree in the boudoir. Always nice to spread the cheer.... even in the boudoir. As you can see, even more candles.

So there you have it, Christmas at the Casa du Borghese by way of the Red Light District. It's so calming to come home to and have some wine. Now I have step 2, the menu and the cock-a-tail choice for the up coming soriee! My only question is where are all the houseboys when there is much to be done?

Can almost smell aroma of the candles, and hear the stomp of the feet of the boys as they try to remove the snow from their boots before entering the house! LOL! I also love your Christmas pyrimid!

  14. I'm now in the mood for Christmas after seeing this, and the snow. I'm afraid I don't have quite the inventive side of putting things together like this. Looks very relaxing and welcoming. Very nice.

  15. Maddie, your home and decor are exceptional, as I would expect. The first tree is amazing I love the color of the glow from the red tree. Love the ornaments, and the nets with the birds, and don't get me started on the apothecary jars in the kitchen. Thanks for the tour and commentary.
