Briar Blush is one of Boston's premier drag queens. I've had the pleasure to meet her several times for different drag shows, and I'm here to tell you this queen is celebrated for her enchanting mix of retro and modern, becoming the it-girl of any time or place. A must see if you get to Boston. As a fixture in Beantown's still vibrant LGBTQ nightlife, she is regularly performing at the iconic venues and lounges, while also up and down the Northeast coast. What I like most is her equal parts conceptual artist and local club kid and street clown. And girl is proud of her Latina heritage, where she blends humor, art, fashion and a passion for drag that's curated to be unlike other drag artist. Yes, while the girls of RuPaul's Drag Race are too high polished, it's the like of queens like Briar that keep me coming back to drag. Briar is one of those queens who uses the philosophy the queens of the 80 and 90's had....spur of the moment drag and using what resources one had. Briar proves a huge gold mine of a budget is not required to look flawless and stunning...and shows the importance that a great act will do. Further down you'll see her creation and a clip from one of her shows I caught once. It's wild to think that a bit of party tinsel and classic drag turned it OUT. Another of the pictures is a creation she made of lottery scratch off tickets. Of course, Briar also spreads unsolicited life advice, be kinda shady and leave an undeniable impression.
Fabulous!

ReplyDeleteFantastic! Talk about inventive that lottery ticket costume alone is prize winning! Thanks for the clip, sweetpea! What a show! xoxo
ReplyDeleteLove her progressive pride flag corset!
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw her in that stringed sequin number I thought, "She's giving me Miss Ross," and then I saw the video ... one of my fave Diana tunes!
ReplyDeleteI 'm a happy queerling right now.
And that's no sequins. It's party tinsel!!!!!
DeleteNow that's a queen!
ReplyDeleteIf you are creative and inventive enough, buttloads of money can actually end up being a detriment.
ReplyDeleteHow much in the way of danger insurance does Briar Blush have to take out if she intends to walk in the boots in pic #10? I'd be long dead if I had to wear them!
ReplyDeleteI was also wondering how she walks in those shoes as well.
