I never thought we'd be here 17 seasons later with RuPaul's Drag Race. Yet again, I wasn't sure if I'd watch this season, but then when Sixpence visited, I had told him I had the feeling a friend might have gotten on the show, but he'd been mum about it. Well, sure as shit he finally told me he did indeed film the season!! So I will have to watch and support Crystal Envy, I mean what kind of person would I be to not watch? This season promises to be one of the splashiest seasons yet, and many of the queens are budding queens, so I like the idea of the stage being a more even playing field for queens to battle it out without well-known seasoned queens, yet the cast is still a bit too fishy for me, although there is a few campy queens. The stage is set for tomorrow night on MTV, with 14 queens in age from 22 to 34 and all have vastly different levels of style and experience in high heels. Here is the cast... and from what I know of them, I have them in an order I think their stay duration will be. I have the feeling yet again, there may be a clear top four.

A nice mix of queens, and also what is nice to see, is the mix of cities the queens are from. I'm fairly confident in my top four. Trinity Taylor has two of the top four in her house, if they make it. All four are fierce as hell, and Sam and Crystal will be the hot boys out of drag. People may think a friend may place Crystal higher and while I wish her well, knowing the judges, they are going to want more then I think Crystal will deliver. Glam and fish is nice, but lately the winners have been extremely versatile in their ranges. But stranger things have happened...So bring the crown Crystal!!!!!

A great Lineup but your Friend is Stunning, The Man and I already said... Winner! *Winks* Hard to believe we're already into Season 17 and the Art Form has elevated to a level of mass popularity now, which I'm glad of. I recall my 1st Drag Show attended was Boylesque in Vegas with Kenny Kerr. I took my Welsh Uncle who said the Show was Brilliant. Since he was such a Big Guy Kenny came up and Teased him during the Act, asking where he was from. When he said North Wales Kenny told him, oh, you came all that way to hook up with me Honey? My Uncle was a good Sport and said, No, he was too Old for Hookups. Without missing a beat Kenny responded, "It's Okay Honey, I'll just stand on my Head and you can drop it in!" We laughed so hard, the show was hilarious and ran a long time in Vegas.

ReplyDeleteI am having a hard time feeling this season out. I do know Jewels has some fierce style and looks in her shows, and I've had the pleasure to work with Hormona and Sam Star. The rest I've heard of but it ends there. This promo is BEAUTIFULLY filmed. Congrats to the art department for coming up with this. Hopefully the season will sparkle just as much.
ReplyDeleteThey are all so good, it could be everyone's guess. But I will say the way Crystal Envy's outfit moves is so beautiful and luxurious like a fountain, so dramatic and ethereal.

ReplyDeleteHas anyone done a paper on the evolution of the contestants? It seems they are getting thinner, more 'sharp' and (it looks) more expensive to do. One doesn't just put on a dress anymore it seems. It must be fascinating to consider how drag queen styles (and who does them/afford to) change over time.
ReplyDeleteIt one reason the show does give a accurate portrait of drag. These queens spend a fortune....and often have to have fundraisers or pay pals to raise the money to have ensembles and wigs created for the show. And it's challenges...especially is they really want to win. Most queens in everyday life throw things together and spend no where near the money these queens do. But this is a competition show...like the pageant queens...and must spend the money to compete. So the show to me only has select traits of drag and drag shows. It's the creme da la creme of drag that get on here....which i don't always agree with.

ReplyDeleteCrystal Envy's feathery silver-white dress is awesome! Suzie Toot appears to be channeling a 1930's Berlin Cabaret vibe which could be very entertaining to watch! Too bad I don't get MTV or whatever channel Ru Paul's show is on now in Canada.
ReplyDeleteMTV! Crystal is very stunning and talented....but Im not sure her repertoire is going to be as broad . But her shows are entertaining and he is gorgeous...in and out of drag.
DeleteI may be in love with Lexi Love. But your right, one can already tell with at least half the cast who won't last. Sam Star was on my nerves within five minutes of seeing him. Seems very annoying.
