I think most people might jump at that chance to go to Boston. I have been once before, when I went with the Lad to visit the Prince Charming who you may recall, one of my past concubines, years back. When I found out there may be a possibility I may have to go open not one, but two showrooms to help with selection and layout, I was not too happy, as I had to cancel plans to meet up with several bloggers in NYC. Call me strange, but I do not find Boston a place I like to visit and not one of the friendliest cities either. I find people very hard to talk to and get conversation started with. And many seem to be pre-occupied with A-list people, the right circle and labels. It could just be me, but there is some kind of feeling or vibes I get when I visit there. I feel un-edge when I'm there, and not very relaxed. But I can always find time and the balls to go off and explore on my own if need be. Although I did catch up with the Prince Charming...we hadn't seen each other since my last visit. Even he admits the city is nice but finds it very hard to make a circle of friends there as opposed to Philly or New York City. And he's a tall pretty blond boy for pete's sake. While work took much of my time, I did take time to go see the Museum of Fine Art on the weekend and the Quincy Market. No matter the mood of the people, I can always find solace in art and food.

BOSTONIAN
I did however come across this cute, if not historical pub.
Loved this sign...and it speaks the truth!!! From Abraham Lincoln.
Now that being said I will admit to spending most nights in my hotel with room service and books...it was way too cold there for me...but I did find a gay bar I liked and frequented it some nights. I may have had one nice make out session, but you don't want to hear those stories kids. I'm sure he could have showed me some sites. My second weekend spent there I booked a day at a spa for the works. That was heaven. Then there was the rough train ride back as a snowstorm started and getting sick. So there was that. Thanks, heavens, for a quick recovery... and gin.

Gorgeous museum pics. i felt bad I couldn't make it in from Ptown with the snow. So close yet so far. To tell the truth, I'm not a fan of Boston either.
ReplyDeleteNo worries pearly, the weather up in your neck of the woods was crazy.
DeleteI don't live in Boston but know it well. I would have shown you a real good time. Glad to see you returned..
ReplyDeleteWhere do I sign up at?
DeleteI always thought the fine art museum was a spectacular place for art. See, you always find something of interest. And that is a great quote and one to live by for sure.
ReplyDeleteBoston is one of my favorite cities. Thanks for sharing those pictures. It sounds like you had a good time there. I would love to hear more details ;-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping in Julio. Considering it was a work trip I guess I had the best time I possibly could have, although I'm still not a big fan of Boston itself. Oh you'd like to hear the naughty details!
DeleteI am still so sorry we didn’t get to connect in NYC. Damned work!
ReplyDeleteI moved to Boston from NYC in 1980. It was like moving to a small town for me. I then came out and a year later I met SG. So Boston is a very important place in my life. However, I completely understand what you’re saying. And who says we don’t want to hear those stories?!?
It is a nice city...but my least favorite of cities in the Northeast. I can see why it has special meaning for you though.
DeleteA city I need to spend more time in. It is hard to imagine you in your room, living like a monk.
ReplyDeleteThey were long days...and it was too damn cold to be exploring at night. Not a favorite city of mine. I have no plans to go back...other cities I'd go to first.
DeleteAt least you got to see some of the city, and can't lie it has a great series of museums and the city itself is nice. but not one of my favorites cities to live in. My three least favorite cities to visit are Boston, Chicago and LA. I found people to be full of attitudes and plain rude.
ReplyDeleteBut the Prince Charming?!?!?!? I remember him. Did you reconnect? At least for overnight?!?!
Beautiful pictures and art...but just what make you think we want to see it and NOT hear of your indiscretions?????
ReplyDeleteNever been to Boston. Least favorite city for me is Washington DC. Plain miserable people. And a boring looking city.
Hmmmm, this could make for an interesting post...favorite and least favorite cities....
DeleteNottingham, East Midlands, UK. Manages to not only be dull, but also has a slight air of menace too. I wouldn't care if I never saw it again. Jx
DeleteThe Fine Art Museum of Boston is one of my favorites outside of the Met in NYC and the Philadelphia Museum of art. Love your picture and glad you took some time. The spa sounds wonderful. If you’re a history lover, a music fan, or an arts fanatic, you’ll be astounded by the cultural opportunities available in Boston. But the cost of living,-outrageous, nightmare traffic, lackluster nightlife and the density of people living there is SO NOT for me.
ReplyDeleteOnly been to Boston one, business trip. Loved it.
ReplyDeleteThis visit to the museum looks fab! Always time for that.
XOXO
Sixpence
Thanks for the pics. I've never been there, but would love to go.
ReplyDeleteMy fave photo was the desserts display case!
ReplyDeleteThey did look rather scrumptious didn't they? Just looking out on my hips got bigger.
DeleteI've never been to Boston, but I'd feel on edge too if I were in a city known more for its racism than the Red Sox.
ReplyDeleteI loved the lady in white with a white parasol; the painting made me think John Singer Sargent, but then I am not an art historian. I don't like London but love my home city - every lane holds memories. Visit and I'll show you the beauties of the oldest public museum in the country.
ReplyDeleteActually Helen you a very good eye. A part of the exhibit was about fashion and fashion and paintings by John Singer Sergeant! They had a whole exhibit of his work and the theme of Edwardian luxury.
DeleteNext time you go, make time for MOBA, the Museum of Bad Art. So MUCH fun.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure I may have a couple pictures hanging in there cookie.
DeleteMy time in Boston was spent working, working, working, a teensy bit of sightseeing, eating scrumptious seafood, and working. But I loved it.
ReplyDeleteTundra Bunny here...
ReplyDeleteLove the Edwardian gowns on display -- were they replicas or the real thing?
I've always thought that Boston would be very interesting to visit since it's so steeped in American Revolutionary history, but perhaps its Puritan roots have contributed to its modern ennui and bad attitudes?
That's what's always shocked me too Tundra. Cuz Philadelphia and New Hope area where I lived receipts in history so I always thought I would enjoy Boston too.. I think it's the people that turned me off. Not the city or history itself. It's actually a very walkable city which I enjoy.
DeleteBostonians have that better than thou Brahmin attitude that they think serves them well.
ReplyDeleteAt least you got to enjoy Boston's Fine Art Museum, and that display of pastries at Quincy Market look as good as pastries served at Demel's in Vienna or the Ruszwurm café in Budapest. :-)
Oh dear anonymous two places I've been Vienna and Budapest and then you had to mention the pastry shops there!❤
DeleteThose dresses!!!!!!!!!! Those paintings! Oh who am I kidding - everything! You have the best vacation pictures! XOOO
ReplyDeleteAnd hell I didn't want to go this was a work trip. I try to make the most of my time.
DeleteWow. I never been on the east coast. Both of my son been to Boston.
ReplyDeleteI would give it a 6 out of ten. I'd jump at some international cities before going to Boston first.
DeleteI can smell the first years of US independence!
