AT THE CASA DU BORGHESE

It has been an age since I posted anything relating to the new Casa du Borghese since moving back to the ancestorial home. While my heart will most likely remain in Bucks County, one perk to being back in the Cumberland County home is that I get to toil and potter in a garden and the soil. The fun stuff mind you since the Mother has gardening guys to mow and trim bushes. Even the houseboys are delegated to only menial house chores, and most does upping the property value. The Mother I believe has some extra pep in her step. I had forgotten how much work goes into gardening, but I think my late father would be happy I'm getting things back in order like he had them. While we have a lovely shed, we have gotten rid of most of its contents except for smaller gardening tools and the wheelbarrow. So next summer, I love to turn it into a potting shed inside. I have also gotten set up all the bird feeding stations and we shall see if I can attract all the birds I used to get at the Old Casa du Borghese. We seem to get most of the same variety, but here I have gotten hummingbirds, which I never had luck with attracting in Doylestown. To the dismay of Lillith, I have also befriended Bouvier 2!!! You knew it was a matter of time. Here are some snaps from recently with some from the end of spring.

My hand with delphiniums paid off. I also mixed some in with even more saliva since it did so well last summer. I think that is what's attracting the hummingbirds.
I love just planting tons of pots and sitting around.
The roses of all kinds are going nut this season.
I can't keep up with dead heading them.
Some peonies from spring
Busy as a bee!
Our blueberry bushes did very well this season.
Below was berries from just one week back in June.
Bouvier II
The smoke tree is also going nuts. I cut this way back in the fall. It is now above the shed.
One of several hummingbird feeders. They are buggers to get a photo of.
So far I can't complain. Life has been pretty good. Between life, and the gardening I have been saying my prayers nightly for continued success to one of my Patron Saints.

Now Im off to enjoy a nice sit with a G&T.

  4. Your spring and summer garden is lovely. I hope the heat holds off and allows you to enjoy it. So nice to see Buster too...it's been ages! And I enjoy hummingbirds.

  5. Such a wonderful garden. It's almost like a whole new facet to the Casa du Borghese. You must have certainly inherited your father's hobby for it. I have no luck with dahlias or delphiniums as much as I have tried. I also can't keep up with my roses, and have also hired a landscaper to tend to all the gardens till I sell my home to something more manageable. LOVE the hummingbirds. Your mother must be loving all the updates.

Thank you for sharing of your series of beautiful photos.

  6. The Casa du Borghese....now with gardens! Love the photos of your gardens, full of color and texture. We too do a huge pot garden since we don't have a yard. Those doggies have the life!!! Nice to see Buster make an appearance.

    1. A love the look of a all pot garden. My friends in cities with very small courtyards or balconies use them, and they look great. I love incorporating pots into the garden.

    2. We too grow everything entirely in pots, through happenstance rather than choice, however. As you recall, Maddie, we dug up the entire garden at the last place and all the garden plants that could adapt to "pot life" have come with us...Jx

  10. Loving my visit to your garden. As well as color, you have some cool textures leaves which have my fingers itching to explore. But you'll never be done... every garden is a work in progress. Always. I do like the idea of many pots instead of always planting in the ground. The geraniums and that grasshopper I adored. Geraniums are among my favorites.

    The puppies seem to approve.

  14. It's all so beautiful to look at, but I have no time or interests in gardening anymore. We have some flowering pots and a small herbs garden and that's it. We just don't have the time to take care of it. How do the neighbors like the stable of houseboys??

  15. Wow...you got a green thumb! Amazing summer blooms...lush and green I can't get over the variety of stunning blooms showing themselves all at once. I wish I could grow roses, but now luck. And with our heat many of your blooms would not do well here. I love the blueberries! Must be nice to have a bush or two.

  17. You are a man of so many talents. What glorious gardens — although it took me a moment to figure out what you meant when you said you mixed the delphiniums in even more “saliva.” Knowing you, that wouldn’t surprise me.

  25. OMG lovely!
Love the combination of plants and the feeling of 'country garden' it has. And I totes approve of the idea of making the shed a potting station! We do have a shed but it's not in great condition. I've tried to make it purdy, but you know how that goes....

    XOXO

Tundra Bunny here... Buster and Lilith both look like they're in fine fettle, as does your gorgeous garden! Love all the roses, peonies and dahlias -- have you tried growing tiger lilies? They make lovely bouquets too. Bouvier II's antics should be fun to watch as you relax with your gin cock-a-tails!
