Sister Rosetta Tharpe was an American singer, songwriter, guitarist and pioneer of mid-20th-century music, where she attained popularity in the 1930s and 1940s with her gospel recordings, characterized by a unique mixture of spiritual lyrics and rhythmic accompaniment that was a precursor of rock and roll. Take it ways Sister Rosetta.
Talent! :-)
ReplyDeleteI remember her name and have heard her music before. Elvis and Jerry Lee have both stated they listened to her music when they were little. Sister Rosetta is the Godmother of Rock and Roll. You Mistress have a very well rounded music taste and should be proud.
ReplyDeleteThe future is lost if we fail to recognize the past. Sister Rosetta should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Her music definitely was early Rock and Roll.....when it had felling and soul. Now it's just crap.
ReplyDeleteShe is exquisite.....thanks for sharing her.
ReplyDeleteShe's fantastic - I don't know why I've never heard of her before.
ReplyDeleteOMG....THIS WOMAN IS BRILLANT.
ReplyDeleteShe was, and still is one of the most underrated contributors of music as art...ever. Friends of mine loved Aretha later, but she didn't have near the talent and vocal as Sister Rosetta.
ReplyDeleteThe empowered beautiful woman playing the guitar riffs. I'm smitten forever.

ReplyDeleteI love that she's playing with an electric guitar. Makes it sound even more like rock.
ReplyDeleteI never heard of her, but adore her. She needs a tribute.
ReplyDeleteHey, I saw a play about her last year. It was great!
