What good news!!!! Right before the Mistress is getting ready to depart for the Memorial holiday next week, CONGRATULATIONS ARE IN ORDER TO THE GOOD GAY FOLK of Pennsylvannia when the ban on gay marriage was struck down. I was beginning to think PA would be the last state to give in, although we were the last one in the Northeast. Better Late then never. I am proud that the judge and our state can now let the gay folk who want to marry the right!!!!! This from the New York Times-
Continuing a rush of rulings that have struck down marriage limits across the country, a federal judge in Pennsylvania on Tuesday declared the state’s ban on same-sex marriage to be unconstitutional.
“We are a better people than what these laws represent, and it is time to discard them into the ash heap of history,” wrote Judge John E. Jones III of Federal District Court in a decision posted on Tuesday afternoon.
Judge Jones, who is based in Harrisburg, Pa., was appointed by President George W. Bush in 2002.
Judge Jones did not issue a stay, writing, “By virtue of this ruling, same-sex couples who seek to marry in Pennsylvania may do so, and already married same-sex couples will be recognized as such in the Commonwealth.” Pennsylvania is the last of the Northeast states with a ban on same-sex marriage. Gov. Tom Corbett ( of course) did not immediately say whether he would ask the Federal Circuit Court in Philadalphia to delay enforcement pending an appeal, and gay rights advocates said they hoped that marriages would start as early as Tuesday afternoon.
COCK-A-TAILS ARE ON THE MISTRESS!!!!!!
UPDATE-
UPDATE-
Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett will not appeal the Same-Sex Marriage
ruling.
Congratulations, it's about time equality and common sense come to the Commonwealth!
ReplyDeleteDRINKS INDEED!!!!!!
Wow, when that arc of history starts bending towards justice it really accelerates fast near the end!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to all those brave and loving enough to make lifetime commitments to one another, whatever their gender or orientation may be.
Love is good.
What good news!!!! And if and WHEN the Mistress EVER selects a man, and keep sher feet on the floor, that will be a party the Casa du Borghese won't soon forget.
ReplyDeleteLuck for you my dear, I'm in a generous mood!
DeleteAnother wonderful step forward for humanity, civility and basic decency.
ReplyDeleteAnother well-deserved slap in the face to religious bigotry, spite and small-mindedness.
Simply divine.
I never go out and drink during the week, but Im celebrating tonight with friends! This was such great news. More power to all the consenting adults who can go now go about their lives without wondering if some stranger wants to ruin their happiness.
ReplyDeleteI am seeing history unfold. So pleased to see this decision
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to not just all humans in PA, and the courage & logic of this judge, but to Kathleen Kane, the PA Attorney General, who declined to defend the legislature's 2006 marriage law.
ReplyDeleteShe not only declined to defend irrational and unconstitutional bigotry, she also wisely skipped wasting a million dollars or more of taxpayer money defending the indefensible.
Aaargh. Just let consenting adults marry, already. Congrats!!!!!!!!!
FUCKING A! about fucking time! there is NO GOOD REASON not to permit loving couples to get married. IN ANY STATE OR ANY COUNTRY!
ReplyDeletesuck it, homophobes! :)
Dearest Mistress- I remember saying give it a year. The dominoes are falling; the gates are opening; the world is changing. What is the threat in love? What is the uneasiness about relations coming out of the shadows into the light, with full legal rights? What is the reason that some in power want to oppress others for their differences and restrict their liberties and choices?
ReplyDeleteToday is a joyful day here in PA.Be joyful. That is the important fruit the nation needs. A huge Thank you to Kathleen Kane for getting the wheels moving faster.
Take Care
Yay. Well said my friend!!!!! M

ReplyDeleteLet's hope the Governor grows a brain (*and* a heart) and decides not to appeal! I heard he said he was thinking it over?
And just today here in PA was elections day for primaries Cooper. My ex and other political friends say he probably will not be elected in Nov. He's been a royal pain in the ass.

Happy news! So good to see that marriage equality is on such a roll in the US right now!
ReplyDeleteMy partner and I have always wanted a small intimate gathering but really wanted in to be legal so this is great news!!!!!!! I can't believe it took this long. When I think of the time were in, and some people still have issues of not getting past sexual orientations and skin color is mind blowing.
ReplyDeleteGreat news and I did hear about the update, even greater news. He knows he's fighting a losing battle.
